  • Patent number: 6786013
Abstract: A roll-form spacer product providing an air space and drainage passageways within a building structure. Preferably, the spacer product is a thermoplasic web of material having hollow spacer elements formed integrally thereon. A first set of spacer elements projects outwardly from one face of the web and a second set of spacer elements projects from the other face of the web. The first and second sets of spacer elements are offset, project in opposite directions, and create air space and drainage passageways along each face. Thus, in a wall or roof construction, air, vapor and water are provided with exit paths extending along both the inner sheathing member and the outer building material. In addition, the web can also be provided with apertures for creating transverse paths therethrough.

  • Patent number: 6780287
Abstract: A relatively low-cost calendering belt having excellent heat resistance and durability comprises a central portion 30, and left and right side portions 20 located at the sides of the central portion. The right and left portions 20 comprise high molecular weight elastic material having greater heat resistance than that of the central portion 30. The central portion 30 is composed of high-molecular elastic material, the durability of which is higher than that of the right and left portions 20. The heat of the calender roll CR is intercepted by a paper W, and consequently is not transmitted to the central portion 30 of the calender belt. The right and left portions 20 of the calender belt, which are not protected by paper W do not deteriorate readily as a result of the heat of the calender roll CR because of their heat resisting property.

  • Patent number: 6763969
Abstract: A hot-fillable, slender, blow-molded plastic bottle for use in containing hot-filled beverages. The bottle has a sidewall with various interactive zones of function. For example, some of the zones are primarily responsible for accommodating vacuum absorption, while other zones are primarily intended to rigidify the container such as by providing post strength to improve container top loading capability. Although each zone may have a primary function, each zone also aids adjacent zones in providing their functions. Thus, the entire sidewall, and not merely selected locations, reacts to the forces generated by the hot-fill process on the container.

  • Patent number: 6759237
Abstract: An improved tet-repressible system is described in which the transgene is expressed under the control of a promoter which is activated upon binding of a fusion protein composed of a reverse tet repressor/activation domain to tet operator sequences located immediately upstream of the transgene promoter. The tet operator sequences are substantially free of interferon inducible response elements (ISRE). The reverse tet repressor is fused to an activation domain which lacks signals for protein clearance, thus extending expression of the fusion protein. Suitably, the tetO sequences are immediately upstream of a quiet promoter.

  • Patent number: 6753170
Abstract: A modified water-immiscible solvent useful in the extraction of acetic acid from aqueous streams is a substantially pure mixture of isomers of highly branched di-alkyl amines. Solvent mixtures formed of such a modified solvent with a desired co-solvent, preferably a low boiling hydrocarbon, are useful in the extraction of acetic acid from aqueous gaseous streams. An anaerobic microbial fermentation process for the production of acetic acid employs such solvents, under conditions which limit amide formation by the solvent and thus increase the efficiency of acetic acid recovery. Methods for the direct extraction of acetic acid and the extractive fermentation of acetic acid also employ the modified solvents and increase efficiency of acetic acid production. Such increases in efficiency are also obtained where the energy source for the microbial fermentation contains carbon dioxide and the method includes a carbon dioxide stripping step prior to extraction of acetic acid in solvent.

  • Patent number: 6743134
Abstract: In a silent chain, wear of the connecting pins and bushings, and wear elongation of the chain itself, are suppressed by the formation of through holes in the approximate centers of the teeth of toothed link elements for relieving strains in the inner peripheries of the bushings due to press-fitting of the bushings into the toothed link elements. The shortest distances between the bushing hole on the one hand, and the through-hole, the outside tooth surface and the inside tooth surface, on the other hand, are made substantially equal to one another. The through holes also reduce the weights of the individual link elements and contribute to a reduction in overall weight of the chain.

  • Patent number: 6739369
Abstract: A small-sized coating film transfer tool is provided, in which a transfer head is capable of turning relative to a casing. A bearing hole extends widthwise through the main body of a transfer head, and an insertion member, provided at the end of the casing, is inserted into the bearing hole. In the assembly of the tool, the insertion member is inserted into the bearing hole of the transfer head, and, when the casing is united with its cover, an end of the insertion member is engaged with a part of the cover. The inside of the bearing hole of the transfer head comes into line contact with the insertion member, allowing the transfer head to turn smoothly relative to the casing about the contact location.
