  • Patent number: 7640114
Abstract: A method of developing a gene expression profile indicative of the presence or stage of a selected a disease, disorder or genetic pathology in a mammalian subject employs penalized discriminant analysis with recursive feature elimination. A method of diagnosing a cancer in a mammalian subject includes the steps of examining a sample containing the subject's immune cells and detecting a variance in the expression of a statistically significant number of genes, e.g., at least 10 non-tumor genes from those same genes in a characteristic disease or healthy gene expression profile. A significant variance in expression of these genes when compared to a gene expression profile, preferably an average gene expression profile of a normal control, or significant similarities to an average gene profile of subjects with cancer, correlates with a specific type of cancer and/or location of tumor.

  • Patent number: 7625712
Abstract: A method useful for the enumeration of cell populations in a biological sample includes the steps of reacting in a single reaction mixture a sample, a first antibody labeled with a fluorochrome having a first emission spectrum and an additional antibody. The first antibody binds to an antigenic determinant differentially expressed on leukocytes and non-leukocytes. The additional antibody binds to an antigenic determinant differentially expressed on mature and immature granulocytes or myeloid cells, and is labeled either with the first fluorochrome or an additional fluorochrome having an emission spectrum distinguishable from the first emission spectrum. The reaction mixture can be mixed with a nucleic acid dye having an emission spectrum that overlaps with one of the first or additional emission spectra. The reaction mixture may be treated with a lytic system that differentially lyses non-nucleated red blood cells and conserves leukocytes.

  • Patent number: 7618339
Abstract: In a hydraulic tensioner having a relief valve inside its plunger, a relief valve spring-receiving plug, press-fit into the plunger is formed by forging a plurality of flat surfaces on its exterior. These flat surfaces, in cooperation with the cylindrical inner wall of the plunger, form plural oil passages, each having a segment-shaped cross-section. The oil passages allow flow of oil past the plug to a discharge opening at the front end of the plunger, and the flow of oil is substantially unaffected by circumferential displacement of the oil passages on the periphery of the plug relative to the oil passages on the periphery of the relief valve seat.
