  • Patent number: 6344116
Abstract: Three technologies realize monocrystalline three-dimensional (3-D) integrated circuits: (1) silicon sputter epitaxy permitting fast growth at low temperature; (2) real-time pattern generation using a pixel-by-pixel programmable device to create a patterned beam of energetic radiation; and (3) flash diffusion focuses through a projector barrel the patterned beam on a silicon sample, causing localized dopant diffusion from a heavily doped region at the surface into the underlying region. Removing the heavily doped layer leaves a 2-D doping pattern. Creating additional 2-D patterns on top of it through process repetition produces a buried 3-D doping pattern. One configuration places projector barrel and sample in fixed positions inside the sputtering chamber and a ring of targets around the barrel facing the sample with targets of a given kind symmetrically positioned in the ring. Cobalt can be substituted for the doping layer and can be driven in creating silicide conductive patterns.

  • Patent number: 6340079
Abstract: A heavy duty brake drum cover system including two semicircular plates which mount over and about the axle housing and the S-cam which cover the brake drums. The brake drum cover system prevents dirt, gravel and other debris from entering the brake drum and causing excessive wear to the brake drums and shoes. Also provided are brake shoe inspection holes which allow the user to inspect the brake shoes without removing the brake drum cover system. The brake drum cover system are intended for hopper bottom style trailers, but could be modified to suit any other brake system.

  • Patent number: 6314669
Abstract: Electronic alpha-numeric or symbol sectional display system featuring readily accessible access to internally located modular display and other components for quick changeout of modular and other components. Display panels, which are modular, having side-by-side display module/nested frame assemblies which include outer and inner nested frameworks, fine mesh screen, display circuit boards with LED character block displays, and driver circuit boards, are readily and quickly secured in stackable enclosure cabinets by the use of ¼ turn or other quick fastening hardware. Other changeout friendly hardware is incorporated within to promote economy of manufacturing and changeout functions. Viewability of alpha-numeric or other symbol information is preserved and enhanced by the use of small panel fine mesh screens which maintain planar attributes and which are located at the front of each modular display panel residing in close proximity to the LED character block displays.

  • Patent number: 6310529
Abstract: The present invention is for a bi-stable battery switch incorporated preferably for internal use into a remotely switchable storage battery, or, in the alternative, for external use with a battery. A bifurcated contact assembly incorporating dual bus bars is pulse actuated by a solenoid and cam arrangement to engage or disengage across opposing contacts. When engaging the contacts and when associated with high inductive loads, the first bus bar to advance initiates contact and assumes the arcing load, while the second bus bar to advance assumes the current load. When breaking contact and when associated with high inductive loads, the first bus bar to retreat breaks the current load and the second bus bar to retreat breaks the arcing load. Thus, the loads are shared to increase the durability and length of service of the switch.

  • Patent number: 6296415
Abstract: A cam style hub and strut system for use in single panel fabric, cloth, or plastic units, or structures with an unlimited number of wall and/or roof panels. The purpose of the cam style hub is to compensate for certain fabric characteristics and to allow easier setup of structures containing flexible or rigid support struts connected to a central hub by lessening the distance of the diametrically opposing struts during assembly, and applying the force necessary to engage the self-supporting structure by engaging the cam, increasing the distance between the ends of the opposing struts. The amount the distance is increased can be dictated by materials used and the size of the panel. The hub may contain an optional “locking” feature activated when the hub cam is engaged for convenience and safety reasons. The principle can be used with any number of struts greater than one.

  • Patent number: 6258061
Abstract: A device for removing a thrombus or other tissue deposit from the cardiovascular system, natural or synthetic tubule or cavity found in the human body of a patient without the need to surgically access the location of the thrombus or other tissue deposit via a cut-down or other surgical procedure. A flexible metal or high pressure plastic tube conveys an extremely high pressure stream of sterile saline or other physiologic solution to at least one jet at the distal end of the catheter. At least one jet is directed at the opening of a large exhaust lumen or other target. The jet(s) is responsible for providing a localized negative pressure which entrains tissue into the jet from break-up of the debris. This jet(s) can also provide stagnation pressure in the exhaust lumen which drives the tissue or thrombotic debris out of the exhaust lumen. Operation of the device with tip pressure greater than 500 psi provides this device with the entrainment and exhaust characteristics which contribute to its effectiveness.

  • Patent number: 6253712
Abstract: A positionable and expandable tube system composed of snappingly engageable slotted tube segments for the construction of hamster, gerbil, or like pet tubes. Each tube segment consists of an upper and a lower truncated sphere connected at an annular intersection. The preferred embodiment incorporates an upper truncated sphere having a plurality of tapered slots delineating flexible arcuate portions which can be flexed inwardly upon contact with a lower truncated sphere of a succeeding tube segment to reduce the cross section of the upper truncated sphere to allow easily accomplished entry into the lower truncated sphere of a succeeding tube segment. The tube segments, when snappingly engaged, create frictionally positionable ball and socket joints.

  • Patent number: 6241107
Abstract: A modular system (1) including a series of parallel dividers (4,5) attached to a back wall grid (80). The dividers (4,5) and grid (80) are formed primarily of 0.25-inch wires welded together in an orthogonal grid pattern having a center to center spacing of approximately three inches. The modular storage system (1) can be mounted on a wheeled base (2) or directly to a wall (50) by brackets. The width of the modular storage system (1) can be increased indefinitely by extender rails (113) which may be added to the basic top rail (10) and bottom rail (47). Rails may be affixed together in the field by a wedge tube fastener (142). The fastener (142) is formed of a horizontal member (143) welded to two vertical, cantilevered metal strips (145, 146). A bolt (148) extends through the horizontal member (143) and into the interior region (147) formed between the two strips (145, 146).

  • Patent number: 6243210
Abstract: A new optical image rotating device, used in combination with laser diode bars or laser diode bar arrays, cylindrical lens elements or cylindrical lens element arrays, and an afocal image relay system, to achieve a highly collimated output laser beam suitable for use in many applications. Due to the simplicity of the optical image rotating device, fabrication of such a device is relatively easy and straightforward. The optical image rotation device is suitable for use with high-density laser diode bars, as well as continuous linear and 2D sources. Performance of the system is relatively insensitive to alignment of the optical image rotation device.
