Abstract: A process for forming a coating film, the process comprising the steps of coating a substrate with a dark color coating comprising a thermosetting resin composition, a coloring pigment, carbon black pigment and a light-iridescent pigment, and coating the dark color coat with a color clear coating comprising a thermosetting resin composition and carbon pigment. The process permits forming a coating film having superior aesthetic appearance, wherein the coating film exhibits an excellent light-iridescent, or pearl-like, appearance at the highlight portion and a dark color appearance having an excellent pitch-black feeling without muddiness in the shade portion.
Abstract: A method for producing millable polyurethanes by first producing a poly-.epsilon.-caprolactone based diol, the poly-.epsilon.-caprolactone based diol containing a controlled average number of caprolactone units and having a molecular weight distribution; and reacting the poly-.epsilon.-caprolactone based diol with a diisocyanate to produce a polyurethane with a restricted crystallizability having a rubber elasticity. The resulting millable polyurethanes exhibit excellent hydrolysis resistance, show no crystallization at low temperatures and have excellent mechanical properties.
Abstract: An antimicrobial, abrasive, polishing compound, colloidal suspension or gel formulated for the controlling of microbial cross-contamination in the pumicing or polishing of prosthetic and orthodontic dental appliances and related materials. The colloidal suspension provides continuous, instant access to a pre-mixed polishing compound with excellent antimicrobial activity for use by dental offices and laboratories.

The photosensitive resin composition is high in sensitivity, good in storage stability, and easy to produce, and is suitable for use in a screen printing plate, formation of black matrix or phosphor pattern of a color cathode-ray tube, a CCD or LCD color filter, a printing color proof, and various etching resists.
Abstract: A process for inducing pre-tilt in alignment of a liquid crystal medium comprising exposing at least one optical alignment layer, comprising anisotropically absorbing molecules and hydrophobic moieties, to polarized light; the polarized light having a wavelength within the absorption band of said anisotropically absorbing molecules; wherein the exposed anisotropically absorbing molecules induce alignment of the liquid crystal medium at an angle + and -.theta. with respect to the direction of the polarization of the incident light beam and along the surface of the optical alignment layer, and induce a pre-tilt at an angle .PHI. with respect to the surface of the optical alignment layer and applying a liquid crystal medium to said optical alignment layer, is described. The invention also is directed to liquid crystal display elements made by the process of the invention and to novel polyimide compositions that are useful as optical alignment layers in the invention.
