  • Patent number: 7086430
Abstract: An inverted container has a generally cylindrical depending neck, with a cap 18 having an outer wall 19 which engages the neck and an internal sleeve 20 located within the neck and joined to the outer wall by a connecting wall 21. The internal sleeve 20 defines a recess for receiving the feed tube 34, and a frangible seal 28 is secured to the connecting wall of the cap to cover the recess prior to insertion of the feed tube. To prevent pieces of the seal 28 from being separated if the feed tube 34 is inserted with the seal 28 still in place the feed tube has at least one row of upwardly-projecting puncturing elements 48 which create a controlled rupture of the seal prior to penetration of the feed tube.

  • Patent number: 7057316
Abstract: A torque-generating apparatus includes a first assembly (10, 25) including a generally cylindrical member of magnetically soft material and having a longitudinal axis and a second assembly (2) arranged coaxially within the first assembly and including an electromagnetic winding (4). The first assembly (10, 25) and the second assembly (2) are rotatable relative to each other about the axis. Relative rotation between the first (10, 25) and second (2) assemblies induces a magnetic field which generates rotational torque between the first and second assemblies.

  • Patent number: 7057482
Abstract: An electromagnetic filter assembly includes complimentary first and second blocks (1) and (2) defining two conjoined sections (10), (11) of an electromagnetic waveguide duct. A shim-like electromagnetic filter element (3) is held between the blocks and contains a series of holes (14) defining bridges (15) which traverse the waveguide duct to form poles of an electromagnetic filter. The filter element includes integral tuning projections (20) which extend into waveguide duct between the bridges. By adjusting the position of the filter element (3) between the blocks (1), (2) it is possible to vary the extent to which the tuning projections (20) project into the waveguide duct. The arrangement thus facilitates the repeated, continuous adjustment and variation of the electrical characteristics of devices such as filters, diplexers and multiplexers.

  • Patent number: 7030342
Abstract: An electrical heating assembly (2) comprises a glass-ceramic cooking plate (4) having an upper surface (6) for receiving a cooking vessel (8) and a lower surface (10). A radiant electric heater (12) incorporating at least one electric heating element (20) is supported in contact with the lower surface of the cooking plate. Temperature sensing means (29) is spaced above the at least one heating element (20). The temperature sensing means includes a support member (33) which has provided on an upper surface a film form temperature-sensitive electrical resistance element (30) and which is provided with electrical connecting leads (34). Thermal insulation means (40) is adapted and arranged to shield the support member (33) and a corresponding region of the lower surface (10) of the cooking plate (4) from direct thermal radiation from the at least one electric heating element (20).

  • Patent number: 6989097
Abstract: The invention disclosed relates to feed spacers used in various filtration membrane modules, such as in spiral wound membranes, used in cross-flow filtration. Such spacers have an influence in promoting the mixing between the bulk of the fluid and the fluid element adjacent to the membrane surface so as to keep the membrane surface relatively clean. To optimize these properties, novel spacer designs are disclosed having a plurality of rows of elongated strands, the strands in each row being arranged substantially in parallel to one another, with adjacent rows being attached and disposed at an angle to one another, the strands of at least one row when viewed in cross-section having a central portion of a width smaller than the width of its extremities. Novel membrane modules incorporating such feed spacers are also disclosed.
