Abstract: Read-only storage chip stores three levels per single-FET cell by providing each cell with an enhancement gate, a depletion gate or no gate connection. Level decoders convert pairs of these three-level signals to triplets of two-level data signals for binary output from the ROS.

Abstract: A logic driver circuit repowers signals in either direction along a line, without requiring any external direction-control signal. Two back-to-back driver halves each include a gate, an open-collector transmitter and a latch. The latch is connected to the gate and transmitter to prevent race conditions.

Abstract: A driver circuit for a thermal printing element varies the power applied to the element, depending upon its recent history of energization, in order to maintain uniform print density desprite temperature variation in the element. A capacitor charges and discharges to measure time intervals since the last element energization to control the voltage applied by an output transistor.

Abstract: A printing machine comprising a flat, substantially horizontal, guide portion on which the document to be printed is initially placed, a curved guide portion connected with the horizontal guide portion across which the document may be pushed manually and a final vertical guide portion connected with the curved guide portion providing a vertical passage across which a print head traverses for the purpose of printing on the document as it moves upwardly through the vertical passage. Drive rolls are provided in the vertical passage just above the line of traverse of the head for first continuously pulling the document upwardly through the passage once it has been manually pushed to this point and then incrementing the document upwardly through the machine and in the vertical passage for each of the lines of print provided by the print head.

Abstract: A microprocessor has a common data bus coupled to a storage data register, two separate storage address registers and a storage control unit. The data register transfers data to and from a storage unit addressed by that address register selected by a gating means. The address registers can be independently incremented and decremented, and perform either a read or a write operation. All these functions are specified by signals produced from a control word held in the storage control unit.

Abstract: A flat disk contains a number of holograms made from the interference of a plane wavefront with spherical wavefront modified by a first cylindrical lens. The disk is rotated so that a plane reconstruction wavefront sweeps across the holograms. The resulting reconstructed wavefront is passed through a second cylindrical lens, resulting in a focussed point sweeping across an object surface in one or more substantially straight lines.

Abstract: A data-processing system for pattern-recognition and the like, having an instruction unit (IU) for storing, decoding and modifying instructions, and an execution unit (EU) for storing and performing operations on data. The IU has facilities for making a branch address effective for a plurality of subsequent instructions, and for masking and de-conditioning the prospective branch. The IU also indexes data-operand addresses according to a variable modulus. The EU performs Boolean and voting logic functions in a series of cascaded registers. The EU controls the acquisition of external data according to the type of instruction being executed, and maintains a record of the location of data strings in memory. Intermediate computational results are automatically placed in a hardware stack without any programming overhead. Bits from multiple operands are placed in a single operand byte by shift-load instructions.

Abstract: An optical scanner converts input images into video snapshots which are recognized at fixed intervals, independently of the presence of patterns. Sense generators identify the presence of pattern left and right sides in the snapshots, independently of the recognition unit. A direction detector determines whether the scanner is moving from left to right or vice versa. A composition unit converts the fixed-interval recognitions into a single output code for each input pattern, eliminating duplicate and incorrect data.
