  • Patent number: 6175689
Abstract: An improved “in-line” tankless electrical resistance water heater includes a top having a cold water inlet and a hot water outlet for connection to the cold, and hot water lines of a faucet in a sink. The water heater includes a body with a passageway through which cold water travels, from the top towards the bottom, where it is fed into two separate chambers on opposed sides of a diaphragm. A first of the two chambers has no outlet, and the pressure of cold water therein presses against a first side of the diaphragm, while the second chamber includes an outlet to a further chamber having a heating element therein. The second chamber also includes a plunger, biased by a spring against a second side of diaphragm, and a plunger rod, which contacts an operating member of a microswitch.

  • Patent number: 6162057
Abstract: A lightweight, movable shooting range for use with frangible ammunition. Much lighter weight, hardened alloy ceilings, floors and side walls may be used over the majority of the internal shooting area, thereby substantially lightening the total weight of the trailer. The mobile shooting range includes a shooting impact area at one end with sufficient armor plate to absorb any frangible ammunition being fired into an absorbing material mounted in the front of the impact area. At the other or forward end of the trailer, a control booth contains electronic controls and equipment to allow a range operator to monitor the shooting performance of any person shooting from shooting stalls mounted within the trailer. Appropriate fans and filters are provided to prevent any smoke, or the like, from collecting within the trailer, and air conditioning or other climate control means may be provided to control the interior temperature thereof.

  • Patent number: 6136174
Abstract: A compact device for coalescing finely dispersed droplets of a conductive fluid emulsified in a stream of nonconductive fluid by the use of a high intensity electric field acting on the emulsion as it flows through a narrow flow gap under non-laminar flow conditions. The emulsion is introduced into the top of a vertically mounted cylindrical vessel or shell, and flows through one or more narrow, annular flow gaps formed between one or more electrodes, or an internal wall of the device. The broken emulsion is discharged from the bottom of the vessel, after having a short residence time in the high-intensity electrostatic field. The flow of the emulsion in the one or all of the narrow, annular flow gaps is non-laminar to provide substantially smaller equipment size, even with emulsions having high water content therein.

  • Patent number: 6112383
Abstract: A combination bag tag and zipper lock is formed from a stamped out piece of metal, and has a pair of pointed legs which may be formed from a frangible central portion and bent outwardly, away from a first surface of the stamped out blank so as to form a pair of pointed securing elements. The securing elements are preferably bent outwardly at about 90.degree. from the first surface, and have their pointed ends inserted through opposite sides of a zipper closure at either or both ends on a body bag until a bottom surface of the bag tag/zipper lock contacts the closed zipper closure. The securing elements are then bent over the closed zipper closure so as to securely hold the zipper closure together.

  • Patent number: 6089705
Abstract: A manually-tiltable anti-glare device is provided for attachment to eyeglass frames or sunglasses to save lives by blocking the rays of a rising or setting sun, from eyes of a wearer the anti-glare device, while performing outdoor activities, or driving a vehicle. The manually-tiltable device is easily adjusted by the hand of the wearer, between partially lowered and raised positions, to follow the rising or descending sun, while, at the same time, allowing the wearer to safely walk, bike, hike, or see a roadway while driving. The anti-glare device includes a stop portion which prevents the anti-glare device from being moved downwardly or lowered to a vertical position in front of the wearer's eyes, thereby enhancing a walker's, hiker's, cyclist's or a driver's vision, and avoiding any dangerous accidents or conditions.
