Abstract: A fuel composition is disclosed which comprises(A) at least one low sulfur diesel fuel; and(B) esters from the transesterification of at least one animal fat or vegetable oil triglyceride of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups having at least 60 percent monounsaturated character and containing from about 6 to about 24 carbon atoms with an alcohol or phenol R.sup.4 OH wherein R.sup.4 is an aliphatic group containing from 1 to about 22 carbon atoms or an aromatic or substituted aromatic group containing from 6 to about 50 carbon atoms.

Abstract: An oil-in-water emulsion composition is disclosed which comprises a mixture of brine and;(A) at least one natural oil or synthetic triglyceride of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently saturated or unsaturated aliphatic groups that contain from about 7 to about 23 carbon atoms;(B) at least one alcohol, R.sup.4 OH wherein R.sup.4 is an aliphatic group containing from 1 up to about 18 carbon atoms;(C) at least one emulsifier; and(D) at least one sulfurized composition wherein (B), (C) and (D) are soluble and reside within (A).
Abstract: A composition is disclosed which is directed to an oxidatively stable environmentally friendly lubricant base fluid comprising(A) at least one sulfurized triglyceride oil and(B) at least one oxidation inhibitor selected from the group consisting of(1) an alkyl phenol of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.4 is an alkyl group containing from 1 up to 24 carbon atoms, R.sup.5 is hydrogen, an alkyl group containing 1 or 2 carbon atoms or R.sup.4, and a is an integer of from 1 up to 4;(2) an ether of the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sup.6 is an alkyl group containing from 1 up to 12 carbon atoms, R.sup.4 is an alkyl group containing from 1 up to 24 carbon atoms and b is an integer of from 1 up to 5; and(3) at least one aromatic amine of the formula ##STR3## wherein R.sup.7 is ##STR4## and R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 are independently a hydrogen or an alkyl group containing from 1 up to 23 carbon atoms.

Abstract: An oxidatively stable, biodegradable lubricant composition is disclosed which comprises(A) a hydrogenated polyisoprene prepared by polymerizing isoprene such that polyisoprene is obtained wherein there are from 4 to 1000 isoprene units and hydrogenating the polyisoprene to obtain a hydrogenated polysoprene containing a residual olefinic unsaturation of not more than 10 percent based upon the unsaturation content prior to hydrogenation; and(B) at least one performance additive selected from the group consisting of(1) an alkyl phenol;(2) an ether;(3) a mono- or di-substituted glyceride;(4) a phosphorus derivative;(5) a benzotriazole;(6) a phosphorus amine salt;(7) a trihydrocarbyl phosphorothionate;(8) an aromatic amine;(9) a zinc salt;(10) a pour point depressant ester;(11) a hydrogenated block copolymer; and(12) an acrylate polymer.
Abstract: A lubricant composition is described which is useful as a chain bar lubricant for chain saws. The composition comprises(A) at least one triglyceride wherein the ratio of the oleic acid moiety:linoleic acid moiety is from about 2 up to about 90,(B) at least one viscosity modifying additive, and(C) at least one tackifier.Optionally, the composition may also contain(D) at least one pour point depressant and(E) at least one antiwear agent.
Abstract: Novel compounds of the general formula ##STR1## wherein each R.sub.1 is independently a tertiary alkyl group containing from 4 to about 8 carbon atoms and each of X, Y and Z is independently hydrogen or a hydrocarbon-based group, provided at least one of X, Y and Z is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing at least 7 carbon atoms, and wherein R.sub.1 is different from the at least one of X, Y and Z that is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing at least 7 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 is an alkylene or alkylidene group, and n is a number ranging from zero to about 4. Also disclosed are methods for preparing novel phenolic compounds, organic compositions, including lubricants based on oils of lubricating viscosity and fuels based on normally liquid fuels and additive concentrates containing the novel phenolic compounds of this invention.

Abstract: A food grade lubricant composition is described which is useful as hydraulic oil, gear oil, and compressor oil for equipment in the food service industry. This composition comprises (A) major amount of a genetically modified vegetable oil and (B) a minor amount of a performance additive. Abstract: A composition comprising (A) an ethylene-alpha olefin-bicyclic non-conjugated diene copolymer, wherein the alpha olefin contains from 3 to about 24 carbon atoms; (B) at least one organic sulfur containing compound selected from the group consisting of mercaptans and disulfides; and (C) a major amount of diluent; wherein the sulfur-containing compound (B) is present in amounts ranging from about 0.1% to about 15% by weight relative to the weight of the copolymer (A). This invention also relates to a method of shearing a composition comprising (A) an ethylene-alpha olefin-bicyclic non-conjugated diene copolymer and (C) a diluent, the improvement which comprises reducing or preventing the formation of gel-like particles on shearing by intimately mixing with said copolymer prior to shearing an amount of (B) an organic sulfur containing compound selected from the group consisting of mercaptans and disulfides in an amount sufficient to inhibit formation of said gel-like particles.
Abstract: Copolymers of unsaturated fatty esters capable of being obtained by copolymerization in a mineral oil of a percentage a) of an ester of a carboxylic acid A.sub.1, of a percentage b) of an ester of a carboxylic acid A.sub.2 and a percentage c) of an ester of a carboxylic acid A.sub.3, wherein a), is between 12 and 20%, c) is between 14 and 30% and b), which is preferably 72 and 45%, is such that a)+b)+c)=100%. The copolymers in accordance with the invention are reemployed as viscosity improver in lubricating oils.
Abstract: Gear oil compositions are described which comprise a lubricating base oil having dissolved therein:(A) at least one phosphite ester characterized by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrocarbyl based groups of from 1 to 30 carbon atoms and(B) at least one metal overbased composition.Another embodiment of the invention comprises the above-mentioned (A) and (B) with(C) a sulfurization product of an aliphatic olefinic compound containing from 3 to 30 carbon atoms.

Abstract: A metal overbased composition is disclosed that comprises(A) at least one natural oil comprising an animal oil or vegetable oil comprising a triglyceride of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 arc independently saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups containing from about 8 to about 24 carbon atoms and(B) a metal base oxide (MO), hydroxide (MOH) or alkoxide (R.sup.4 OM) wherein the metal comprises an alkali or alkaline earth and R.sup.4 is a hydrocarbyl group containing from about 1 to about 24 carbon atoms, and wherein the equivalent ratio of (A):(B) is from 0.90-10:1 to form a saponified intermediate, adding 2-11 equivalents of (B) per equivalent of formed saponified intermediate and reacting excess (B) with(C) an acidic gas comprising carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide or sulfur trioxide.This composition may also be gelled to produce a rheology control agent.

Abstract: This invention relates to a composition prepared by reacting (A) a boron compound and (B) a phospholipid. These phospholipids are useful as lubricant additives for oil-base and water-base functional fluids. These materials act as anti-wear and/or extreme pressure agents. Further, these materials when incorporated into aqueous compositions have beneficial bacteriostatic effects, i.e., controlling bacterial growth.
Abstract: This invention relates to improved grease compositions comprising a major amount of an oil based simple metal soap thickened base grease and a minor amount of at least one phosphorus and boron containing composition, said phosphorus and boron containing composition prepared by reacting a combination of (A) at least one boron compound and (B) at least one phospholipid. In one embodiment, the phosphorus and boron containing composition is present in amounts sufficient to improve the extreme pressure, antiwear and lubricity properties of the base grease. In another embodiment the phosphorus and boron containing composition is present in amounts sufficient to increase the dropping point of the base grease, as determined by ASTM procedure D-2265, by at least 20.degree. C.
