Abstract: An illuminating circuit for the key slot in a locking device is made up of a high intensity light source which is mounted on the face plate of the lock in close proximity to the key slot, a piezoelectric crystal is mounted within or adjacent to the lock to respond to vibrations created, for example, by tapping on the face plate to generate an electrical signal, and a control circuit including a timer and battery respond to the electrical signal generated by the crystal to energize a light source for a predetermined time interval after receiving the electrical signal from the crystal.

Abstract: A head covering is in the form of a visor-like cap having an upper band or head-encircling portion with a wire reinforcing member around its upper edge and a visor extending downwardly from the band which includes a crescent-shaped section and a wire reinforcing member embedded in the outer peripheral edge of the crescent-shaped section so as to cause the cap to assume the desired configuration when worn and when not worn to permit it to be coiled into a compact package for storage purposes.

Abstract: A colonic lavage apparatus including a speculum (12) in which the speculum (12) takes the form of an elongated tubular body (29) having a tapered leading end (30) provided with a pair of diametrically opposed apertures (36). The major length of the body (29) tapers rearwardly from the leading end (30) into a trailing end (45) which is coupled to a liquid delivery line (L) from a source of liquid under pressure. A control line (L') is coupled to a valve assembly (16) at an opposite end of the speculum (12) to that of the delivery line (L), the valve assembly (16) including an elastic tubular liner (28) and a pressure port (24) positioned on an external surface of the valve (16) which is in communication with the source of liquid under pressure, the valve (16) being opened and closed in response to the differential pressure between the liquid in the pressure port (24) and the speculum (12).

Abstract: A space heating unit is designed for use in a recreational vehicle and particularly to operate in conjunction with a cooking stove wherein the heating unit has a housing which is placed over a pair of burners and air flow ducts extend across the housing above the burners to draw air from the room upwardly through the ducts and across the housing in order to heat the air and discharge it into the room. The upper end of the housing communicates with an exhaust duct and has a baffle to regulate the rate of air flow through the housing.

Abstract: A motor controller for reversibly driving a member to be driven along a predetermined path of travel is capable of sensing the speed of the member to be driven and to compare with a predetermined speed level and to adjust the motor drive until the rate of advancement of the driven member corresponds with the predetermined speed level. The motor drive means is completely deactivated if the actual speed should not reach a predetermined start-up threshold within a selected time interval after the motor is initially turned on or should drop beneath the stay-on threshold level which is set beneath the desired speed. The motor drive can also be regulated to run at different reduced or normal speed settings depending upon its intended application.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing SO.sub.x and NO.sub.x levels in flue gases generated by the combustion of coal in a boiler in which low NO.sub.x burners and air staging ports are utilized to inhibit the amount of NO.sub.x initially produced in the combustion of the coal, a selected concentration of urea is introduced downstream of the combustion zone after the temperature has been reduced to the range of 1300.degree. F. to 2000.degree. F., and a sodium-based reagent is introduced into the flue gas stream after further reducing the temperature of the stream to the range of 200.degree. F. to 900.degree. F. Under certain conditions, calcium injection may be employed along with humidification of the flue gas stream for selective reduction of the pollutants.

Abstract: A protective cover for snowboards is made up of an elastic elongated panel having an elastic cord around its outer peripheral edge which must be stretched in order to permit insertion of the snowboard such that the bottom of the snowboard is covered by the panel and the elastic cord snugly engages the top surface of the panel; and reinforcing layers are provided along the surrounding edge of the panel to overlap the edges of the snowboard.

Abstract: A high capacity refrigerant apparatus is made up of a heat exchanger which receives refrigerant from the system to be drained in heat exchange relation to a coolant from a vapor compressor circuit, and a liquid pump discharges the refrigerant from the heat exchanger so long as the liquid refrigerant in the heat exchanger remains at a particular level; otherwise, the refrigerant is drawn through a second vapor compressor circuit and completely condensed prior to discharge. In a modified form, a lower capacity refrigerant reclamation apparatus, a reciculating coolant tube vaporizes a limited amount of refrigerant and returns it back through the heat exchanger so as not to require a separate vapor compressor system for the heat exchange cooling medium.

Abstract: A locking device has an elongated cylindrical member with a central bore, a shaft disposed in the bore including a transversely radial arm, the shaft being movable in the bore and manually grasped for combined rotational and axially slidable movement through a continuous but winding passageway in communication with the bore along its length. Preferably, the cylindrical member is defined by a plurality of annular disks in which individual circumferential slots are formed in each disk and are aligned to be in communication with one another throughout the length of the member to form the passageway and a locking member is disposed in the path of the arm so that engagement by the arm will cause the locking member to be advanced to an unlocked position with respect to another fixed member, such as, the wall of a safe.

Abstract: A wheelchair lift apparatus for transporting a wheelchair and its occupant into and from a commercial vehicle can be installed in the existing doorway of the vehicle on a rotation column which is capable of supporting a telescoping platform assembly for movement into and out of an operative position across the doorway, there being a retention strap to prevent accidental forward rolling movement of the wheelchair as it is lifted or lowered, and a barrier plate across the front end of the forwardmost platform section cooperates with side flanges or rails on the platform section to prevent accidental movement of the wheelchair off of the platform assembly. The platform support unit is capable of lifting and lowering substantial loads without binding, and the platform assembly is hinged to the platform support unit in such a way as to require positive manual pressure in folding and unfolding the platform assembly with respect to the support unit.

Abstract: An anchor bracket assembly for securing support posts to a floor surface and particularly useful for handrail assemblies, there being a plurality of anchor brackets affixed to the base of each post and having angular flanges extending away from the post with fasteners pigtailed through the angular flanges into the floor, and molding or cover strips positioned over the anchor brackets.

Abstract: A seismic receiver array device for shallow water and near-shore operations which is comprised of an elongated low-profile, flexible casing having a plurality of geophones and hydrophones spaced along its length, and the geophones and hydrophones are electrically connected to a transmitter for transmitting the seismic impulses into a master receiver. Spikes are extended downwardly at spaced intervals along the length of the casing and a setting tool is provided to releasably anchor the spikes into the earth below a body of water.

Abstract: A toothbrush having an elongated oval or loop shaped handle having a plurality of brushing projections mounted to a portion of the outer perimeter of the handle. The elongated handle may also be flattened on one end, forming an integral base or stand, or the handle may be bisected into two halves by a cross member. Alternatively, the brushing projections may be mounted to a brush head extending radially outward from the elongated handle.

Abstract: A baby rattle is made up of a light-transparent shell, a light source in the interior of the shell, an impact or motion-sensing member within the shell will generate an electrical signal to activate a control circuit between the light source and a portable power source to illuminate the shell. The impact motion-sensing member is preferably a piezoelectric crystal mounted within the shell, and a fiber optic array within the shell can be used in association with a light source to create different lighted displays.

Abstract: An apparatus has been devised for repairing divots on a golf course which is comprised of an elongated tubular housing containing seeds or dressing and has a lower dispenser end, a spring-loaded rod disposed in the lower end including an agitator at the upper end of the rod and a valve member which releasably engages a valve seat in the lower end of the housing. When the rod is depressed against the ground, the valve is raised away from the seat and an agitator associated with the rod will loosen seeds or dressing to facilitate its discharge by gravity feed through the lower end of the housing so that it can be deposited evenly onto the area to be repaired.

Abstract: A clutch assembly for automotive vehicle four-wheel drives either in association with an axle disconnect or wheel hub incorporates a power shift mechanism which can be remotely activated either when the vehicle is static, in motion and during either forward or reverse direction of movement to positively drive the clutch members into and out of engagement with one another. The power shift mechanism includes sealed envelopes in the form of expandable and contractable compartments which in response to a remote control valve will positively shift the clutch members into and out of engagement, and the members will remain in the shifted position without the continued application of force until positively shifted away from that position by the power shift mechanism. In the alternative, a spool-like shifter may be utilized with positive locking elements which will lock the clutch members in the engaged and disengaged position at the end of travel of the shift mechanism.

Abstract: A collapsible head covering is in the form of a visor-like cap having the usual head-encircling portion, and a visor or bill extends from the head-encircling portion which includes a normally shapeless crescent-shaped section and a wire-like reinforcing member embedded in the outer peripheral edge of the crescent-shaped section so as to cause the visor to assume a generally convex cross-sectional configuration when worn and can be collapsed by twisting the visor into a coiled circular configuration for storage purposes.

Abstract: A portable warning light system is made up of a main frame member which is pivotally mounted on a trailer, a pair of light bars are pivotally connected on the main frame for movement in a plane parallel to the frame between a retracted or travel position and an extended position, and the main frame can be selectively positioned at different angles between the vertical and horizontal.

Abstract: A submersible grappling system is designed for retrieving objects, such as, golf balls from the bottom or floor of a body of water and is made up of a tubular housing, a bladder at one end of the housing, finger-like retrieval elements at the opposite end of the housing and a gear column which serves to interconnect the bladder and retrieval elements so that when the gear column is driven in one direction, it will cause the bladder to be compressed within the upper end of the housing while forcing the retrieval elements downwardly and outwardly into surrounding relation to an object to be retrieved, and when the gear column is driven in the opposite direction will cause the bladder to be expanded upwardly away from the housing to increase the effective buoyancy while causing the retrieval elements to be retracted around the object and drawn upwardly into the housing.
