  • Patent number: 5346714
Abstract: Food contents are separated from ferrous metal cans for conversion into useful byproducts by lacerating the can bodies into strips of metal to expose their contents, advancing along a vibrating conveyor section through a liquid spray, followed by magnetic separation to remove the metal strips and separately collect the food contents and metal strips for recycling. In order to convert the food contents into animal feed, the contents are first dried to reduce their moisture level either by mechanical dehydration or by the addition of bulking agents and then advanced through an extruder section to convert the food contents into dry particle form.

  • Patent number: 5279787
Abstract: Numerous products can be formed by combining a low melting matrix made up of one or more metals and high melting, high density metal particles and wherein the products can be formed by adding the high density particles to a molten matrix metal and casting same, mixing powders of all the metals together, compacting and centering at a temperature in the low end of the melting range of the matrix alloy, or by mixing the high density particles into a paste of the matrix alloy and molding. These methods and compositions are particularly adaptable for use in forming low or non-toxic high density projectiles, such as, shot, bullets and pellets having a density comparable to that of lead while avoiding problems of toxicity associated with the use of lead.

  • Patent number: 5261786
Abstract: A centrifugal pump of the hydraulic sealing type has a novel and improved sealing apparatus for establishing a hydraulic seal and limiting the flow of liquid from a pump casing into a reservoir or seal housing at one end of the pump casing, and a valve assembly in the seal, housing has a valve member normally urged into engagement with the seal housing to isolate liquid in the seal housing from the casing by washer-like spring elements. When the pump is activated and brought up to speed, centrifugal force-responsive pivot members will impart sufficient opening pressure to overcome the resistance of the spring members when the pump approaches operating speed to move the valve member away from sealed engagement with the seal housing; and when the speed is reduced below the operating speed level the spring elements will rapidly undergo deflection to cause the valve member to return to a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5253683
Abstract: A method and apparatus for simultaneously filling adjacent sides of a window spacer frame with a desiccant material is characterized by a fill head having a discharge port in communication with a desiccant chamber, a releasable clamping device for clamping the open ends of the adjacent sides in alignment with the discharge port, and the chamber is pressurized with air to force the desiccant material through the discharge port for a time interval necessary to fill the sides of the spacer frame. An air conveyor is provided to induce the flow of desiccant material from a reservoir for the purpose of periodically refilling the desiccant chamber when empty, and a filter system in the air conveyor will separate the desiccant material from the air stream while permitting the air stream to be exhausted to atmosphere during the filling operation.
