Abstract: Food contents are separated from ferrous metal cans for conversion into useful byproducts by lacerating the can bodies into strips of metal to expose their contents, advancing along a vibrating conveyor section through a liquid spray, followed by magnetic separation to remove the metal strips and separately collect the food contents and metal strips for recycling. In order to convert the food contents into animal feed, the contents are first dried to reduce their moisture level either by mechanical dehydration or by the addition of bulking agents and then advanced through an extruder section to convert the food contents into dry particle form.

Abstract: A method and system for the recovery of refrigerant from a refrigeration system includes a consumable heat sink for rapidly reducing the temperature of a holding vessel to the saturation temperature of the refrigerant so that the refrigerant can be rapidly recovered without requiring a pump or compressor; and as the refrigerant is being recovered can be filtered to remove any contaminants. Provision is also made for expansion volume of the refrigerant during warm-up.
Abstract: A nut opener comprises a wire formed into a coiled spring with lever arms extending from opposite sides of the spring and terminating in pointed extremities in the form of knife edges which are insertable into the opening between half shells of the nut and, when the arm members are manually squeezed, will spread the pointed extremities to open the shell.

Abstract: A dance skirt is made up of overlapping, downwardly divergent panels, each panel individually connected at its upper edge to a common waistband but otherwise unconnected to one another so as to extend freely away from the waistband, the waistband having free ends releasably connectable to one another including tie members at the free ends, one of which is passed through an opening in a free end and tied to the other tie member so as to lay flat against the waistband.
Abstract: A transfer apparatus for the transfer of a vehicle between a storage bay in a multilevel storage system and a transportation device, such as, a crane. The transfer apparatus is provided with one or more pairs of adjacent support members for gripping the wheels of a vehicle, the spacing between adjacent support members being adjustable.
Abstract: An illuminated natural gas display panel assembly simulates the generation and transmission of natural gas to different classes of users by means of a plurality of elongated strips of light-transmitting arrays, each strip made up of a plurality of LEDs and with different light-sequencing circuits for individually controlling the rate and direction of sequencing of the lights to represent a desired pressure level and direction of flow along each said array; and different colored light elements are employed to aid in giving the optical illusion of different pressure levels along each of the light-transmitting arrays.

Abstract: An oil spill recovery system for removal of oil spill contaminants from the surface of a body of water has a suction blanket which can be deployed by a host vessel, there being a plurality of air pressure lines through the blanket with suction ports to induce the flow of water and any oil spill in communication with the ports through the conduits into a common collection chamber, and the contaminants can then be exhausted or removed from the collection chamber as necessary and separately collected.

Abstract: A pumping unit is of the type having a compressor made up of a cylinder and piston extending between a walking beam and samson post, opposite connecting end portions of the compressor clampingly engaging the walking beam and samson post, respectively, and spherical bearing members of the non-lubricating type are disposed in each of the connecting end portions to undergo universal movement in response to any lateral displacement or side loading of the walking beam.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sealing off flow in a pipeline for the purpose of repairing the line includes a combination of a restraining rod and inflation bag which can be installed on either or both sides of the intended site of repair; and a flexible sleeve is provided for use in association with the entry ports and any associated valve members for insertion of the restraining rod and bag to prevent the escape of gas from the line during the insertion procedures. Once the line is repaired, the restraining rod and inflation bag can be removed and the entry ports completely sealed off.
Abstract: An evaporative cooling system for mounting on the roof of a vehicle in which the sole source of water supply for the evaporative media in the system is contained in a low-profile housing mounted above the roof line of the vehicle.

Abstract: Numerous products can be formed by combining a low melting matrix made up of one or more metals and high melting, high density metal particles and wherein the products can be formed by adding the high density particles to a molten matrix metal and casting same, mixing powders of all the metals together, compacting and centering at a temperature in the low end of the melting range of the matrix alloy, or by mixing the high density particles into a paste of the matrix alloy and molding. These methods and compositions are particularly adaptable for use in forming low or non-toxic high density projectiles, such as, shot, bullets and pellets having a density comparable to that of lead while avoiding problems of toxicity associated with the use of lead.
Abstract: Karate practice apparatus includes a target pad mounted on a horizontally extending arm, the arm being adjustably mounted on a vertical shaft which is anchored at its lower end in a base housing, and a resistance system in the base housing yieldingly resists rotation of the shaft when the target is truck from either side either by kicking or punching so as to return the target pad to its neutral position. The target pad is composed of a high density foam material which is molded around the support arm and is readily interchangeable so as to conform to the level of skill of the athlete.
Abstract: Doming apparatus for forming a domed bottom wall in a can body includes a pressurized nitrogen source which acts through a cylinder and piston arrangement to impose a predetermined amount of resistance to movement of a clamp ring and former die used in the doming procedure and wherein the nitrogen pressure source is a self-contained unit removably attached to the domer assembly and which can be serviced and replaced independently of the domer assembly.
Abstract: In a percussion drilling apparatus, an impact block assembly is provided for sequentially driving drill rods into a subterranean formation, the impact block assembly including an impact block member aligned with one or more rows of drill rods and a combustion operated piston is arranged above the impact block assembly for sequentially driving each of the impact members downwardly into engagement with the aligned drill rods.

Abstract: A centrifugal pump of the hydraulic sealing type has a novel and improved sealing apparatus for establishing a hydraulic seal and limiting the flow of liquid from a pump casing into a reservoir or seal housing at one end of the pump casing, and a valve assembly in the seal, housing has a valve member normally urged into engagement with the seal housing to isolate liquid in the seal housing from the casing by washer-like spring elements. When the pump is activated and brought up to speed, centrifugal force-responsive pivot members will impart sufficient opening pressure to overcome the resistance of the spring members when the pump approaches operating speed to move the valve member away from sealed engagement with the seal housing; and when the speed is reduced below the operating speed level the spring elements will rapidly undergo deflection to cause the valve member to return to a closed position.
Abstract: A telescoping fishing rod assembly includes an elongated tubular handle for compact storage of the telescoping rod sections with the line guides on the sections protruding from one end, and a removable cap member is placed over the line guides to protect against damage. The rod sections are removably connectable to either end of the handle so that the assembly can be interchangeably used as a fly rod or spin-casting rod.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for simultaneously filling adjacent sides of a window spacer frame with a desiccant material is characterized by a fill head having a discharge port in communication with a desiccant chamber, a releasable clamping device for clamping the open ends of the adjacent sides in alignment with the discharge port, and the chamber is pressurized with air to force the desiccant material through the discharge port for a time interval necessary to fill the sides of the spacer frame. An air conveyor is provided to induce the flow of desiccant material from a reservoir for the purpose of periodically refilling the desiccant chamber when empty, and a filter system in the air conveyor will separate the desiccant material from the air stream while permitting the air stream to be exhausted to atmosphere during the filling operation.
