Abstract: A closure for a container wherein a tape having a metal part and thermoplastic material which is applied to the container wall and heated. Most of the material is squeezed out from between the metal part and the wall into a rib which is formed during application. The material in the rib has an isotropic structural characteristic since the rib formation provides a region into which the excess material is directed minimizing the shearing effect of the flow of material along the interface with the container wall. Also the rib reinforces the tape in the critical region to resist pressure of gasses in the container when used to contain carbonated beverages.

Abstract: A composite container comprising a rigid cylindrical sidewall, an end closure integrally attached to the sidewall, a product-compatible liner disposed within said sidewall, and a cutter element, carried between the sidewall and the liner, for rupturing the liner to permit passage of product therethrough. The end closure is formed of a distal end portion of the sidewall folded into a plurality of interconnected triangular segments disposed transverse the principal axis of the container and arranged to be reformable into a pouring spout. A grasping element is attached to both the cutter element and the end closure, such that the end closure may be opened, the pour spout erected and the liner ruptured in a single operation.
Abstract: A non-detachable tab adapted to be secured to the end panel of a container which comprises a securing lug formed from the sheet metal of the tab, the lug having an attachment to the nose portion of the lug in an area which has not been work hardened and also which has been formed to provide several axes of hinging and thereby increasing the number of times that the tab can be hinged back and forth without breaking off.
Abstract: A ring type calibrating cage for confining a metal container shell just prior to and during seam welding. The cage comprises a series of strategically located rings through which the can body is fed. These rings are of narrow width reducing friction drag and being optimally positioned to accurately hold the can body in cylindrical shape with overlapped edge portions particularly when these edge portions enter into the welding nip.
Abstract: An improved child resistant end closure wherein the pull tab for an easy opening end is mounted within a panel bead; the tab being fastened by the rivet to a tear-out portion of the end panel. The tear-out portion is adapted to be pulled outwardly about a hinge line which intersects the bead. The bead is reduced in depth at the intersection with the hinge line and formed to permit the bead to fold in such manner as to resist sudden flip-out of the tear-out portion which in the previous designs has caused splashing out of the contents in the container.
Abstract: A gun rack which comprises a vertical row of vertically spaced clamp-shaped barrel supports and a vertical row of stock supports spaced laterally from respective barrel supports. Each pin is fixed at one end to the gun rack frame and adapted to pass through the trigger guard of a gun mounted thereon. The free ends of the pins extend through openings in a vertical locking bar and are angled downwardly for biasing the bar downwardly and thus urge a locking tongue on the lower end of the bar into a vertical aperture provided in the outer end of a locking lug which extends outwardly from the frame in vertical alignment with the pins, whereby to remove the bar it must be elevated upwardly against the cumulative resistance of the pins, thus inhibiting removal by a child. The bar is primarily secured by a lock which has its hasp extended through alignable apertures in the upper end of the bar and an upper securing lug extending from the frame.
Abstract: A dog tether for a wheeled vehicle such as a bicycle comprising a stand-off bar which has a clamp at its inner end for attachment to the bicycle frame, and a resilient mounting for the clamp yieldable to take up any sudden jerk by the dog. The outer end of the bar has an adjustable chain or wiffle-tree attachment for respectively tethering one or more dogs.
Abstract: A hanger assembly for mounting a container from the head of a nail, which nail may be driven into a wall or mounting board. The hanger comprises a hoop portion adapted to embrace the neck of a container and a tab which is attached to the free ends of the hoop portion by a pivot on one end and cam the other end, so that by turning from a horizontal to a vertical position it not only draws the free ends of the hoop together closing it about the neck of the container but also disposes a nail-admitting slot downwardly for reception of the shank of the support nail.
Abstract: The easy opening end closure for attachment to a can body. The end closure includes a plastic pull tab having a closure tab sealed in a slit which defines a displaceable closure. The pull tab is attached by forging a plastic strip over a lid in a manner such that the plastic is caused to flow and force the metal panel against a cutting edge to form a slit defining a displaceable closure. At the same time the forged plastic flows beneath the adjacent edges of the slit to form a tight seal therein.
Abstract: A tab for an easy open end which comprises a rivet securing the tab intermediate its ends to the end panel, the tab having a nose end which is adapted to be pressed downwardly upon lifting of the opposite lift end of the tab against a tear-out portion of the end panel and to push the same inwardly. The invention is directed to forming the nose and the lift end of the tab in such manner that both ends of the tab are maintained in constant contact with the container end while it is attached intermediate its ends to the container end panel in order to prevent rocking of the tab and thus producing a fatigue failure in the scored area which is adjacent the tab.
Abstract: An electronic system for determining, indicating and regulating the level of semi-solid matter, such as sludge, in a fluid medium. The system produces and directs ultrasonic signals toward the matter, and the reflected signals are used to compute signal transit time and thus indicate incremental sludge levels. An output signal is produced when the matter reaches a preset level, to activate a pump and thus regulate the sludge level.
Abstract: A simplified molding apparatus comprising a hopper adapted to contain ground meat or any other moldable food product which is fed into an intake in a movable portion of a mold for forcing the meat through a passage into a molding cavity, the cavity being aligned vertically with a knock-out punch which descends from above the cavity and knocks the formed patty downwardly onto a paper wrapper moving thereunder on a conveyor, the operation of the mold, the movement of the conveyor and the up and down movement of the knock-out punch being coordinated by appropriately proportioned linkages connected to a common drive source.
Abstract: A device for mooring marine units when attached to a wharf or which serves as a cleat when mounted on the deck of a boat. The device comprises a hollow yieldable plastic or preferably metallic tubular anchor element with open ends at opposite ends of a bore defined by the walls of the element, which when secured in upright position serves as a chimney for circulating air therethrough to maintain the rope anchor element relatively cool.Certain walls of the tube are provided with keyhole shape slots which are open at the ends of the tube for admitting a rope therethrough which is slid endwise of the slot to the enlarged circular terminal inner end. To prevent its withdrawal, the rope has a knot larger than the slot. In the plastic tube the edges of the slots can be spread so that the rope will pass tightly therethrough and the resilient nature of the plastic acts to yieldingly resist tugging as the boat rides up and down.
Abstract: An exposure indicator which is attachable to a hinged glass mask cover frame, the indicator comprising a light emitting diode having one end lead connected in series through a light sensitive cell; a sensitivity-controlling resistance and switch to the appropriate pole of a source of electrical potential, such as a battery, the other pole of the battery being connected to the other end lead of the diode; the switch being arranged so that it is closed when the glass mask frame is closed against the blanket frame on which there is loaded a light-sensitive printing plate, and onto which an activating light is adapted to be directed, whereupon the light-sensitive photo cell is activated (resistance decreased) so that current is allowed to flow from the battery, through the switch and the light-activated silicon controlled rectifier, causing the diode to glow, thus indicating that the material has been exposed, and thereby preventing a second exposure due to the inattentiveness or forgetfulness of the operator.
Abstract: An improved non-detachable easy-opening end closure wherein the pull tab includes an integral strap member co-operating with the tab attachment rivet to limit the angular displacement of the tab relative to the opening flap, whereby the tab protrusion of the opened end closure is minimized and the tab is more securely attached to the end panel and which also functions to cause the tab and flap to move into the container during opening to a position where it is non-obstructive.
