  • Patent number: 4730530
Abstract: A synthesizer guitar controller pickup and method for generating control signals for a synthesizer. The control signals are NOTE, GATE, and VELOCITY. NOTE corresponds to the pitch, GATE corresponds to when the sound is initiated and stopped and VELOCITY is a signal which is proportional to the force applied to the guitar string. A DC sensor, such as a photo detector or Hall Effect transducer, is employed to detect these signals. The DC sensor measures how far the string deviates from its rest position, this value is the VELOCITY signal. The flyback from the peak deflection initiates the GATE signal to turn on the sound. When the string stops vibrating, the GATE, and thus the sound, is turned off.

  • Patent number: 4730497
Abstract: The measuring-value sensor according to the present invention for the measurement of extensions, for example in concrete or shotcrete, consists of a support member, having an extension stiffness value that is lower than the extension stiffness value of the material diameter displaced by the sensor. Transverse elements are located at either end of the support member, which induce the impact. By combining sufficiently large transverse elements that have a relatively high flexural strength and a support member that has the above-mentioned very low extension stiffness value it is made sure that extensions in the concrete are forced completely and without obstruction upon the support member by means of the transverse elements, so that when measuring the extension of the support member, the extension of the concrete is measured directly and without any distortion. The support member is suitably a hollow profile of aluminum or a plastic material, into which an additional profile, e.g.

  • Patent number: 4731137
Abstract: A method of building a tire in a mold having a mold core and a cavity between the mold core and the inner walls of the mold, the cavity defining tread, sidewa1l, and bead areas of the tire. A flexible mesh fabric is tied to the mold core by tying together corresponding ends of strings running through respective edges of the fabric extending around respective sides of the core. The fabric serves as a spacer between a radial reinforcement and an inner surface of the tire. The fabric is placed on the core such that it remains in spaced relation to the bead ring area of the tire. The tire body is formed of a castable or sprayable elastomer.

  • Patent number: 4730448
Abstract: The invention relates to a tangential-belt drive for a plurality of work units of the same kind, arranged at least in one row next to each other, of a machine for the production of twisted or twined yarns. The work units are divided into sections with at least approximately the same number of work units, each driven with an endless tangential belt. At least one electromotor is assigned to each section for driving the thereto pertaining tangential belt and guiding means for the tangential belt.In order to reduce the energy losses of such a tangential-belt drive, the width and thickness of the tangential belt used is considerably reduced, particularly to a width between 7 and 14 mm and a thickness between 2 and 2.7 mm. Size reduction becomes possible because the number of working units in each section is selected by considering the working capacity required by this number of work units and the acceptable belt stretch factor.

  • Patent number: 4731171
Abstract: The process and apparatus of the invention provide a coat of lacquer or varnish covering a tear-off cover, which is formed from a thin ferromagnetic metal, has a circumferential supporting lip and is equipped with a tear-off opening made by scoring and/or punching in or out the cover surface. To provide the coat of lacquer or varnish the cover is moved through an electric coating tank, a washing tank and drying zone with the plane of the cover oriented substantially vertically while being supported exclusively on the surface of the inner wall of the supporting lip. The entire surface of the cover is completely covered by the lacquer or varnish coating except for a small portion on the inner wall of the supporting lip which is positioned inside the closed container in a folded seam and/or covered by a sealing material.

  • Patent number: 4730401
Abstract: The process according to the invention controls a drying device for a vehicle wash for a vehicle, a travelling portion of the drying device being movable relative to the vehicle with the aid of a travel motor and a lift motor. The travelling portion carries a drying means and a light barrier whose light beam passes with clearance under the drying means and a device controller operating the travel and lift motors guided on a path which keeps a guaranteed clearance from the contour of the vehicle. At the beginning of the drying process the portion of the drying device in a lowered initial position in front of or behind the vehicle is moved. As a result at least the raising and lowering of that portion is controlled by a gating signal. Before beginning each drying process the sensitivity or response threshold of a gating device for the gating signal and/or a conditioning device adjusting the gating signal is adjusted automatically to a value sufficient to define the release of the light beam.

  • Patent number: 4730837
Abstract: The chuck has a mounting body with an associated chuck assembly and a pivot device. For clamping of a workpiece at least one chucking jaw can adjustably be swung away from its chuck assembly, and the clamped workpiece, together with the chucking jaws can be turned about a pivot axis which extends perpendicularly with respect to the axis of rotation of the operational spindle of the lathe and with respect to the axes of operation of the workpiece, into pivot positions determined by the directions of the axes of operation. For workpieces with a pair of axes of operation, which are disposed at a distance with respect to one another, the mounting body is comprised of a base member and a turning member. The turning member is journaled for rotation at the base member so as to be able to revolve about a turning axis which extends parallel to the axis of rotation of the operational spindle and which intersects the pivot axis at predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 4729693
Abstract: The digging tool of the tunnel excavator is mounted on a shield support and operates in a forward digging chamber. The digging chamber is sealed from a tunnel formed by the excavator by a separating wall of the excavator across a transverse cross section of the excavator. The digging chamber is filled with a fluid which supports the forward digging chamber wall. The problems resulting from the incompressibility of the supporting fluid can be handled simply when the digging chamber, with at least a portion of its separating wall, is supported so as to be movable longitudinally back and forth by an adjustable spring device. Advantageously, the spring device comprises a plurality of hydraulic cylinder devices whose cylinders are connected to a hydraulic accumulator under gas pressure.

  • Patent number: 4729384
Abstract: An intracorporal probe has a flexible and generally nontwistable element having front and rear ends, a flexible and continuous sleeve substantially surrounding and loosely receiving the element between its ends, and a sensor unit mounted on the front end of the element past the sleeve and itself having a front end. Thus twisting of the rear end of the element will twist the sensor unit and will twist the element relative to the sleeve. A forwardly tapered and flexible tip is carried on the front sensor end and a balloon is engaged around the unit between the tip and the sleeve at the front element end. The tip is mainly formed of silicone of a hardness between 50 shore and 100 shore.
