  • Patent number: 4736605
Abstract: The device serves to control the desired lifting and pressure-containing movements of strip pressure rolls for the reels which serve to store hot rolled strip. These reels have a rotating mandrel. The pressure rolls are actuated by piston and cylinder units for positioning the rolls electro-hydraulically in conformity with signals which indicate the relative position of the leading strip edge which rotates with the mandrel. The positioning of the roll, by the lifting and pressure-contacting movements, is effectd by position control with subordinated pressure control in a closed-circuit position control loop and a closed-circuit pressure control loop, by input of a setpoint position value which corresponds to the respectively prevailing pressure-contacting and lifting position of the pressure rolls, and by establishment of limited setpoint pressure values for both functions or directions of movement.

  • Patent number: 4737214
Abstract: A process and apparatus for sterile docking of plastic tubes or the like is disclosed in which the tube ends to be joined are sealed by a transverse weld seam and aligned along a common axis. A heating unit is moved between the tube ends at a distance thereto to melt the latter. After retracting the heating unit, the tube ends are urged together. Prior to and during the heating, the tube ends are squeezed behind the weld seam. Immediately after contacting together the tube ends, the squeezing action is discontinued to provide a sterile docking and an opening of the sealed ends.

  • Patent number: 4736645
Abstract: The invention is a further development of the gear-head unit for a manipulator described in German Open Patent Application No. 34 28 748. In order to increase the radius of action and range of applicability of the gear-head unit a structural arrangement with three concentric drive axes and four allowed rotational motions of front, intermediate and rear segments of the manipulator is set forth. These front, intermediate and rear segments are pivotally mounted together about first and second inclined pivot axes which are inclined to each other and to the main drive shaft axis. Along these inclined pivot axes two hollow drive shafts connected with each other extend which are supported by reduction gears in the front and/or intermediate segments. Because of that simultaneous opposing rotational motions of the intermediate and rear segments can be obtained from a single drive motor.

  • Patent number: 4737187
Abstract: Nickel- and vanadium-containing catalysts or combustion residues from petroleum treatment are combined with alkali metal carbonates and/or chlorides and the resulting mixture is melted in the presence of a sulfur carrier with or without carbon which serves to reduce the sulfur to a sulfidic form, a high vanadium, low nickel slag segregating from a high nickel, low vanadium matte. The matte and slag can be separately tapped and the matte is treated metallurgically to recover nickel while the slag is leached and is thus treated hydrochemically to recover valuable vanadium compounds.

  • Patent number: 4736609
Abstract: The rolls of a rolling mill, especially the working rolls, are horizontally shifted by a compact adjusting device, with use being made, as required, of guide pieces. The device is readily arranged in cylinder blocks, and the movements of the device can be easily monitored, transmitted, and set. The predetermined motions are carried out in rigidly controlled manner and no elastic yielding is allowed because of pressure plates extending in the windows of the base frame members. The pressure plates can be horizontally aligned and they cooperate with the holding elements which are to be shifted. The pressure plates are supported by wedges which can be shifted horizontally and transversely with respect to the plane of the frame, by way of pressure posts which operatively engage the pressure plates.

  • Patent number: 4736414
Abstract: The method provides the use, for the determination of the estimation echo-channel pulse response, of digital filtering techniques of the transversal adaptive type, and the subdivision of the pulse-response of the equivalent echo channel into three intervals, the second of which consists of the significant portion of the pulse response and is determined by the iterative search for the value and the position of the coefficient of maximum absolute value; the first interval corresponds to a pure delay and the third corresponds to the contribution given by the lowest frequencies of the base band. To copy the echo-signal, there are only considered the pulse-response coefficients whose indexes are comprised in the second interval, and the samples of the signals to be copied belonging to preceding sampling instants, whose indexes are also comprised in the second interval.
