  • Patent number: 5621365
Abstract: In a laminated dielectric resonator and filter having a folded microstrip line type resonator structure, an internal-to-external grounding conductor distance within which an open-end-side internal conductor pattern is disposed is selected to be shorter than an internal-to-external grounding conductor distance within which a short-circuit-side internal conductor pattern is disposed. In this constitution, since the front end of the resonator structure is loaded with a capacity, the resonance frequency is lowered so that it is possible to provide a resonator having a reduced longitudinal resonator size with respect to the same resonance frequency. In addition, since the resonator has no steps, manufacture and mounting are easy. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce the sizes of the laminated dielectric resonator and filter to a further extent, whereby it is possible to reduce a resonator or filter mounting area in a device.

  • Patent number: 5617789
Abstract: A printing press is provided with at least one counterpressure cylinder and with at least one printing roller cantilevered at one end in the rolling stand and at least one inking roller or screen roller of an inking system cantilevered at one end in the rolling stand, where the bearings of the printing roller and screen roller travel, in guide mechanisms, relative to the counterpressure cylinder. In order to ensure that the printing executed by means of the end region of the cantilevered impression cylinder is also perfect, a plate is coupled to the rolling stand, which plate is provided with bearings in order to accommodate the journals of the free ends of the printing and screen rollers. In this regard, the plate can be swung to either a retracted position, in which the cantilevered rollers are freely accessible, or to a operating position, where the journals of the free ends of the rollers are carried by the plate.

  • Patent number: 5619586
Abstract: A directly viewable fingerprint image is formed by illuminating a transparent planar substrate from one surface with collimated light, the substrate having pressed against the other surface a fingerprint to be imaged. • Patent number: 5615788
Abstract: A container safety cap having an internal structure and an external structure for sealing an end of a container, vessel or conduit, for example. A safety seal is placed across a surface formed from the internal and external structures. Movement of either structure will cause the seal to break and indicate a violation of the integrity of the seal. The external structure will, in a closed position, force hooks of the internal structure into a groove of the container being sealed. Movement of the external structure into an open position will allow removal of the internal structure, together with the external structure, from the container being sealed. The container can be resealed by having the internal structure of the cap fitted onto the container, followed by displacement of the external structure to lock the hooks of the internal structure in place.

  • Patent number: 5617150
Abstract: A video bit rate control method. SUBGOPs are defined as sets of two to four frames in a GOP. For example, if the GOP comprises IBBPBBPBBPBB frames, each of the SUBGOPs is defined as a set of the IBBP or BBP frames. Before bit assignment is performed with respect to frames to be coded, it is checked whether a scene change is present with respect to frames in successive ones of the SUBGOPs. If it is checked that the scene change is not present, a bit rate is controlled in a conventional manner. In the case where the scene change is present, a smaller bits than that in the conventional manner is assigned to frames with no scene change and a relatively large bit amount is assigned to a frame with the scene change. Therefore, according to the present invention, the video bit rate control method has the effect of preventing a degradation in a picture quality due to the scene change.

  • Patent number: 5612750
Abstract: A line contour enhancing circuit comprises a second order differentiation circuit for effecting a second order differentiation to a video signal and producing a second order differentiation signal, an adding circuit for adding the video signal and the second order differentiation signal, and a non-linear amplifier having a gain characteristic in which a differentiation gain increases gradually as the level of its input signal increases. The circuit features that the second order differentiation circuit receives the video signal output from the non-linear amplifier, thereby the line contour enhancing operation is effected depending on the level of the video signal. With this arrangement the degradation of the image produced by a low luminance level video signal due to the presence of noises is prevented.

  • Patent number: 5612537
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting the presence of a fire includes a pair of detectors for radiation characteristic of a fire, e.g. at 4.3 microns, and a further detector for radiation characteristic of a black body, e.g. at 3.8 microns. Filters select the detector output components at flame flicker frequencies. The filtered outputs of the detector pair are cross-correlated to produce a relatively noise-free signal. This signal is divided by a factor obtained by cross-correlating the further detector filtered output with the average of the detector pair filtered outputs. The result of the division is applied to a threshold-responsive circuit. Thus the relatively noise-free signal is effectively subjected to a threshold which is proportional to the degree of similarity between the variations with time of the output signal of the further detector and the output signals of the detector pair.

  • Patent number: 5611845
Abstract: A system for generating oxygen enriched air includes a compressed air supply for supplying compressed air and a permeable membrane gas separation system for separating a nitrogen gas component and an oxygen enriched air component from the compressed air. An oxygen analyzer is provided to detect an oxygen concentration in the oxygen enriched air component. The nitrogen gas component is divided, by a vortex tube, into a cold gas stream and a hot gas stream, and solenoid valves are actuated to modify a flow path of the compressed air through the cold gas stream and the hot gas stream in order to selectively heat and cool the compressed air. The oxygen enriched air is then selectively distributed for further use.
