Patent number: 7853832Abstract: Techniques to ascertain physical cabling connections of electronic systems are provided for situations where there are numerous systems interconnected by a very large number of electrical or optical cables. A cable identifying code is inserted into a message sent from a local endpoint system to remote endpoint system over the identified cable. Each intermediate system that is in the interconnection path between the two endpoint systems of interest appends its code for the cable connected to the I/O port from which the message will egress that system and be sent to the next system along the path. The remote endpoint system receives the message which now contains codes for all the cables transited along the path, extract the codes, and thereby determines the exact cabling used in the interconnection of the two endpoint systems.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2007Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Andrew Snowden Lange, Scott William Nelson

Patent number: 7853687Abstract: This invention provides a tool for generating ACLs in an environment where a set of network elements or servers (e.g. web servers, IPTV servers, application servers . . . ) need to be secure. The tool also performs ACL validation to ensure that the filtering rules are correct before they are deployed in a network. The system enables a central view of the security configuration concerning the filtering rules in the network. Furthermore, it allows end-to-end configuration of the ACL rules, from the definition of the flows between the servers to the deployment of the rules on the network elements.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2007Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Olivier Le Moigne, Christopher Hawley

Patent number: 7843928Abstract: An egress traffic management system for a data communication system is disclosed. The egress traffic management system makes use of a hierarchical queue ID header paradigm that enables data packets to be directed for egress traffic management to either one of a plurality of assignable queues in a main egress queue module or to one of a plurality of distributed queue modules via a common queue of the main egress queue module. This behavior enables egress traffic management functionality and scale to be varied independently and in a cost-effective manner to meet evolving requirements of a data communications system.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2007Date of Patent: November 30, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Dion Pike, Mark Megarity, Joey Chow

Patent number: 7822017Abstract: Systems and methods of providing secure signaling for voice communications over a public switched voice network (PSTN) are described. The call signaling is received at a first secure voice signaling gateway (SVSG) in which it is encrypted utilizing a security key. The encrypted payload is tunneled from the first SVSG to a second SVSG at a destination network element. The destination SVSG decrypts the payload and passes it on to the destination. According to the invention the communication can be either masqueraded in which the address of the first SVSG is given as the origin or non-masqueraded in which the actual original of the voice communication is retained.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2004Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Scott David D'Souza, Olivier Le Moigne

Patent number: 7804952Abstract: This invention provides the ability to load balance calls in a communications network using a certain criterion, such as a user-specified call priority, or the call class of service. The method is applied when selecting a route for a new call or for re-balancing the calls across a network. When the user-specified call priority is used, the aggregated number of calls with the same priority or class of service is calculated for all possible routes the new call may use. The aggregated number of calls is then divided by the number of hops in the respective routes; the route with the smallest ratio is selected for the new call. Re-balancing is performed by re-routing the calls in such a way as to obtain a similar number of calls of the same priority, or class of service, along all possible routes.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2006Date of Patent: September 28, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Neeraj Chandra, Gerardo Martin Espinosa

Patent number: 7792885Abstract: A system and method are provided for providing a shared RAM cache of a database, accessible by multiple processes. By sharing a single cache rather than local copies of the database, memory is saved and synchronization of data accessed by different processes is assured. Synchronization between the database and the shared cache is assured by using a unidirectional notification mechanism between the database and the shared cache. Client APIs within the processes search the data within the shared cache directly, rather than by making a request to a database server. Therefore server load is not affected by the number of requesting applications and data fetch time is not affected by Inter-Process Communication delay or by additional context switching. A new synchronization scheme allows multiple processes to be used in building and maintaining the cache, greatly reducing start up time.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2005Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Richard Matthew Piper, Mark Christopher Pilon, Felix M. Patent number: 7783756Abstract: Mechanisms and methods for providing a mobile/wireless device with protection against false access-point/base-station attacks using MAC address protection are presented. The mobile/wireless device known as mobile client (MC) gains access to wireless network by discovering and selectively associating with an access point (AP). The MAC addresses of both the AP and the MC are protected during all communications between the AP and MC during the discovery phase. This protection mitigates MAC address spoofing type attacks on both the AP and the MC.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2005Date of Patent: August 24, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Vinod Kumar Choyi, Bertrand Marquet, Frederic Gariador
