Abstract: Various embodiments are a method for negotiating datapath treatment for traffic sourced from a first communications network over an end-to-end path in respect of a path segment provided for the traffic in a second communications network, the path segment being requested for a first node of the second communications network and being targeted to a second node of the second communications node. The method comprises: for the first node, notifying that a datapath capability for the path segment is one for selection for the second node; communicating datapath capabilities associated with the first node; selecting, for the second node, a datapath capability from the datapath capabilities so communicated; communicating the datapath capability so selected for the second node back to the first node; and wherein the path segment is established using a signaling protocol of the second communications network. Various embodiments are also be implemented in a corresponding communications node.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for forwarding packets through a fully meshed communication network when the destination MAC address may not be known. Each network element maintains a mapping of MAC addresses and IP addresses, each MAC address having an associated IP address which indicates to where packets are to be forwarded. If a network element receives a packet but has not yet associated an IP address with the destination MAC address of the packet, then the network element forwards the packet along a tree. If a network element receives a packet and has associated an IP address with the destination MAC address, in other words has learned of the IP address for the MAC address, the network element sends the packet directly to the IP address unless a direct link to the IP address is not available. If a direct link is not available, the network element forwards the packet along the tree.

Abstract: This invention is applicable to a Virtual Private LAN service built using multiple point-to-point Ethernet services from a network operator, where the bridging and the transport/tunneling of Ethernet frames to a remote site are decoupled. The learning bridge function (including MAC address learning and flooding) is performed at customer equipment CE devices, while the tunneling is performed at provider edge PE nodes. The models described here for this VPN refer to hub redundancy, site-to-site SLA guarantees and address discovery in the case of hybrid connections.

Abstract: A portable flashlight includes a housing having a first end, a second end, a base, and an axis running from the first end to the second end of the housing. A rechargeable battery is connected to the base of the housing, so that the battery may be used as a stand for the battery. In the first end of the flashlight, a parabolic reflector having a focus is positioned, so that the focus of the reflector is positioned on the axis of the housing. A fixture or socket for holding an electric light is positioned so as to hold the light at the focus of the reflector. A handle is connected to the housing, where the handle has a first end and a second end. An elastic cord runs from the first end of said handle to the second end of the handle; and one end of the elastic cord may be released from the handle, wrapped around a support for the flashlight, and reattached to the handle. The handle may be rotated relative to the axis of the housing.

Abstract: A Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) algorithm is described. The WRED algorithm provides fairness to responsive TCP and non-responsive UDP traffic at a buffer of a communications system. Because TCP traffic is responsive to congestion occurrences while UDP traffic is not, without controls, UDP will monopolize the buffer bandwidth. This invention solves the problem by applying congestion control alogrithms to TCP and UDP traffic separately. Discard thresholds for UDP traffic are dynamically modified in a manner that limits UDP traffic to a provisioned percentage of the buffer's available bandwidth, while a traditional WRED algorithm is applied to TCP traffic.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for enabling an efficient processing environment for a functional programming language runtime machine. Separate processors are provided for the main FP processor and the garbage collector as well as separate access to the heap. The routine maintenance performed by the garbage collector does not compete for resources of the main FP processor. The processor implementation for the main FP processor also includes a separate bus to each of the program memory, the heap, and the stacks.

Abstract: A method for enabling a mobile node to transmit encrypted data over a path including a wireless link and an untrusted link, while avoiding double encryption on any link. The data on the end-to-end path is encrypted using an application specific security mechanism, or an L2 mechanism is used for encrypting the data on the wireless link as mandated by the wireless standards, and an application specific security mechanism is used for encrypting the data on the untrusted link. By avoiding redundant double encryption, the method of the invention results in optimizing the use of network resources in bandwidth-limited wireless networks and increases the life of the mobile node battery.

Abstract: A connector for a surgical retractor is shown. The connector includes a body member having an opening for receiving a nipple of a retractor blade. The connector also includes a retainer pivotally attached to the body member between an open position and a closed position. A lock mechanism locks the retainer in the closed position so that the nipple of the retractor blade is locked in the connector. A safety latch constrains the lock mechanism when the retainer is in the closed position.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method to directionally clone any linear template DNA molecule into any linearized vector. The vector ends may be generated from any restriction enzyme cleavage. The method does not require a ligation step nor the use of carefully controlled conditions as is required with methods involving specific exonucleases alone. It has been determined that specific DNA polymerases are able to efficiently join one or more linear DNA molecules sharing ends with appropriate complementation.

Abstract: A vehicular suspension arm, comprises an upper sheet metal stamped component with a first outer face and a first inner face, and a first central web portion with two opposites sides and first upstanding flange portions at opposites sides of the first web portion; a lower sheet metal stamped component with a second outer face and a second inner face, and a second central web portion with two opposite sides and second upstanding flange portions at the opposite sides of the second web portion. The first and second inner faces are adapted to contact each other along a substantial portion of the first and second web portions. The upper and lower stamped components adapted to be rigidly attached to each other to create a structural I-beam section. The thickness of each upstanding flange portion is at least equal to the combined thickness of the first and second web portions.

The longitudinal opening is open when the jaws are in the open position and closed when the jaws are in the closed position. The sheath is adapted to receive cords or tubing through the longitudinal opening when the jaws are in the open position, and retain the cords or tubing when the jaws are in the closed position. The sheath is adapted to retain medical tubing or electrical cords.

Abstract: A method and system of selecting, addressing, and distributing messages utilizing an Internet website as the registration and administration means and a database for the address routing means and through the use of a telephone and the associated DTMF signals is disclosed. One embodiment provides a system that looks up an electronic address in an Internet-website created and maintained data table based on the ANI (automatic number identification) provided with an inbound telephone and allows selection of a message, such as a reminder, a promotional message, or a purchase order, through the use of keycodes in the form of DTMF signals generated from a telephone keypad. Upon receiving the keycodes, an e-mail message, a fax message, postal mail contact data, or a time-delayed voice mail message is sent over the Internet or over another communications network or to a datafile.

Abstract: A method of treating disorders marked by a loss of pigmentation, comprising the step of administering vitamin B12, copper, folic acid, and vitamin C to a patient suffering from a loss of pigmentation. Additionally, an effective amount of both pantothenic acid and zinc may be administered to the patient. Cutaneous repigmentation can be accelerated by the optional addition of exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light.

Abstract: An apparatus for link layer port-based hardware implemented acceptance rate limiting control is presented. The apparatus employs a single up-down counter tracking a receive port buffer occupancy level. The single up-down counter is incremented by a receive line rate clock signal time truncated by a frame receive signal and a feedback frame acceptance control signal. The single up-down counter is decremented at an Service Level Agreement (SLA) agreed upon committed rate at which content is extracted from the receive port buffer. Outputs of comparators determining when the port receive buffer occupancy level is below a low watermark receive port buffer occupancy level, and when the receive port buffer occupancy level is above a maximum burst size, are provided to a master slave flip flop generating the frame acceptance control signal exhibiting hysteresis as the port receive buffer occupancy level transitions between the low watermark and the maximum burst size receive port buffer occupancy levels.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for collecting fresh water through atmospheric water collection and salt water desalination. The apparatus is used for a method of utilizing deep ocean water to extract fresh water from atmospheric water vapor while producing a byproduct of deep ocean water salt. The apparatus and method may include multiple vertical stages that utilize siphons and heat exchangers to move vapor condensing means through a plurality of stages to produce fresh water at every stage.

Abstract: For offering entertainment services by video streaming content to users, a video encoder creates the required .nsc file for each broadcast channel. This .nsc file is retrieved and stored on a server which notifies each set-top box in the field, via a multicast notifier of the availability of the new service. This notifier contains the multicast address and port to where the .nsc files are being streamed. Once the set-top box retrieves this notification, it attempts to join the dedicated multicast stream, download the .nsc files and store them locally in memory on the set-top box. When a user selects a broadcast channel from their lineup, the set-top box will access the local file to obtain the proper information about that particular ASF stream; hence, it will not have to do an HTTP retrieval.
