Abstract: A method for testing connectivity of a multi-segment pseudo-wire in a packet switched network, the method comprising: (a) sending an echo request message from a first provider edge device to a second provider edge device for a first segment of the multi-segment pseudo-wire between the first provider edge device and the second provider edge device; and, (b) receiving an echo reply message from the second provider edge device in response to the echo request message, the echo reply message: confirming connectivity of the first segment; indicating whether there is a second segment in the multi-segment pseudo-wire between the second provider edge device and a third provider edge device; and, if there is a second segment, including information pertaining to the second segment.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for real-time traffic classification based on off-line determined traffic classification rules are provided. Traces of real traffic are obtained and subjected to statistical analysis. The statistical analysis identifies the multidimensional domain space of characteristic traffic parameters. Classification rules associated with the identified domains are derived and provided to traffic classification points for real-time traffic classification. Traffic classification points, typically edge network nodes, sample packets in aggregate streams with a predetermined probability. Statistical information regarding the sampled flows is tracked in a table, the number of time a flow was sampled providing a probabilistic measure of the flow's duration before the flow terminates. The table entries, which predominantly track high bandwidth flows, are subjected to the classification rules for real-time classification of the sampled flows.
Abstract: A method of re-establishing a connection for a communication link is provided. The link has first and second portions, having the first portion in a first communication network, the second in a second communication network and an interface connecting first portion to the portion. The first communication network has a first communication protocol and a first OAM protocol to monitor integrity of the first portion. Similarly, the second communication network has a second communication protocol and a second OAM protocol. The method utilizes the second OAM protocol to detect a failure in the second portion. Upon detection of the failure, an alternate route for the second portion in the second communication network is identified, where the alternate route is able to complete the second portion of the communication link from the interface. For the communication link, at the interface the second portion is replaced with the alternate route.

Abstract: A combline filter has a ceramic resonator disposed inside at least one cavity wall. Because the resonator is implemented as a hollow rod, a tuning element may be inserted into an opening on the top of the rod to tune its frequency. A mounting element, inserted into an opening on the bottom of the rod secures its position inside a cavity resonator. Instead of soldering the resonator to the filter's walls, the resonator is supported above a bottom or side wall of the cavity resonator.
Abstract: A system and method for control management of shared peripheral circuits by a plurality of controllers is provided. Control of the peripherals is mediated through a shared signal controller which uses mask registers to ensure that only one controller may control a peripheral at any one time, and that the type of peripheral is matched to the type of controller.

Abstract: The WS-Mobile Gateway is the interworking gateway between users of a mobile network and a WS extranet. The mobile gateway comprises a mobile end-user interface on the side of the mobile network, for user authentication and for separating the web services (WS) traffic from the non-WS traffic. A logic unit performs protocol conversion, address resolution, policy enforcement/definition and publishing operations on the WS traffic. An extranet interface processor routes the WS packets carrying control messages between the gateway and a WS controller which maintains the services registry, while the WS packets carrying data are routed between the mobile gateway and the WS provider.

Abstract: A portable, hand-operated trimmer has a head module that is removably connected to a power control module. The head module has a power head enclosing an electric motor that is operatively connected to a trimming blade. The power head is selectably settable in a plurality of angular positions with respect to a head support, including a neutral position representing 0 degree rotation, 45 degree flexion and dorsiflexion positions, and 90 degree flexion and dorsiflexion positions. The power head also encloses a stator cartridge that is connected to the housing of the power head by a plurality of fastening members. The head support rotates about the stator cartridge and is engaged by way of a movable engagement pin that is received within a selected recess defined in the stator cartridge. The power head housing and stator cartridge further define molded sockets to receive corresponding pivot arms of the head support. An O-ring is disposed about one of the pivot arms to dampen free rotation.

Abstract: The backpressure mechanism and method described here do not completely shut off the traffic when a queue is experiencing congestion. Instead of completely shutting off the traffic and waiting for the effects, a series of backpressure pulses are sent to the upstream stage for intermittently slowing the traffic between the upstream and downstream stages. These pulses of backpressure effectively slowly down the rate of the ingress traffic to the queue to a rate less than the egress rate. This allows queue utilization to slowly decrease. These pulses continue as long as the queue utilization is above a threshold called “Starving Threshold”. This technique allows much lower queue utilization, thus requiring smaller queues sizes.

Abstract: A method of managing virtual routing forwarding (VRF) tables at a provider edge PE router of a L3 virtual private network (VPN) is provided. An import route target (ImpRT) tree is maintained at the PE router, which keeps the association between all ImpRT attributes currently configured on said PE router and the virtual routing table VRF at that router. When an ImpRT attribute is configured on a VRF table, the PE router first searches the tree to identify a local VRF table that contains a route(s) with that ImpRT attribute. If this information is available locally, the VRF is updated by copying the route information, and there is no need to do a route refresh. When an ImpRT is deleted from a VRF, a route refresh is avoided by parsing all the routes in the VRF and removing the routes that no longer have a matching route target.

Abstract: This method and system for detecting abnormal traffic in a communications network is based on classifying the traffic in risk and status categories and maintaining a service status table with this information for each service at a respective node. The risk categories are initially established based on known software vulnerabilities recognized for the respective service. An early notifier enables further processing of services suspected of malware propagation. Status categories enable segregating the traffic with a “under attack status” from the “non under attack” status, so that the intrusion detection system at the respective node only processes the “under attack” traffic. In this way, the time and amount of processing performed by the intrusion detection system is considerably reduced.

Abstract: A triple-mode filter is disclosed, the triple-mode filter including a cavity for confining electromagnetic waves and a metallic block acting as a resonator within that cavity. The metallic block does not contact the conductive walls of the cavity, but is instead suspended by a support element. Triple-mode resonators may be combined to produce bandpass filters having three or more poles. In other configurations, triple-mode cavity metallic resonators may be coupled to triple-mode cavity ceramic resonators or to combline resonators to achieve various filtering functions and performances suitable for different applications.

Abstract: A device, system and method for securing a plate to a bone. An anchor device has a screw (with a head portion) and a locking disc. The head portion includes a slotted wall defining a plurality of petals disposed around a central opening. The screw further includes an internal bore. The locking disc is rotatably disposed within the central opening, such that in a first rotational position the petals may flex inwardly, and in a second rotational position the petals are substantially prevented from flexing inwardly. A tool for manipulating the anchor device has a shaft with its end configured to mate with the internal bore of the screw to permit selective rotation of the screw, and a sleeve member rotatably and slideably mounted on the shaft having an end that mates with the locking disc to permit selective rotation of the disc.
Abstract: A wheel on a vehicle having a flat tire may be protected by attaching a first semi-cylindrical shell having a first planar end to the wheel, and attaching a second semi-cylindrical shell to the first semi-cylindrical shell. The first semi-cylindrical shell and the second semi-cylindrical shell are secured together so as to form a cylindrical shell of diameter having a cylindrical wall which covers a tread surface of the flat tire. The first semi-cylindrical shell is attached to the wheel to cover a first portion of a tread surface of the flat tire; and, after attaching the first semi-cylindrical shell, the wheel is rotated. The first portion of the tread surface does not contact a ground surface prior to the rotation step, but does contact a ground surface through the first semi-cylindrical shell after the rotation step. A connector for connecting the semi-cylindrical shells to the wheel is also disclosed.
