Abstract: An adaptive control system incorporating self-teaching and self-programming features senses a pair of input signals for providing an output control signal. In a medical situation, the output signal drives a medicine delivery system in response to the sensing of a precursor signal and a condition signal which represent the future and the present states of a patient's health. Memory is provided in the form of a set of integrators which accumulate quantities of data representing the joint occurrence, during a measurement interval, of the precursor and the condition signals as quantized into preset ranges of values. Generation of the output signal is based on the amount of stored data as well as on the presence of a condition signal indicating a hazardous condition. Circuitry is provided for the selective incrementing and decrementing of the contents of the integrators in a manner analogous to the encouragement and punishment in a learning process.

Abstract: A pair of tweezers for gripping a workpiece in fixed position without exerting pressure by use of the thumb and index finger, having a fixed handle and a movable handle riveted at one end thereof and capable of gripping things on the other end, a spring-controlled member is pivotally mounted between the two handles, when pulling the member against the resistance offered by a expansion spring, the member can be pivotally rotated to a position where a pair of handles are forced open, permitting the gripping of the workpiece, after releasing the pulling force, the spring-controlled member will return to a normal closed position to grip the workpiece firmly.

Abstract: A skin stapler having a plurality of staples comprising a frame structure, with a nose section for directing the staple at a wound site, including a housing therein having an anvil, a staple ejector, a driver for deforming the staple about the anvil, and a staple follower for continually urging the staples against a release member. Means are also provided for actuating the driver in a substantially translatable direction; and the actuating means comprises a toggle mechanism. In addition, the stapler is provided with means for restoring the driver to its unactivated position, and means are provided for preventing the double loading of the staples in said surgical stapler. The skin stapler is lightweight and of the disposable type as it is generally small and relatively compact.

Abstract: Adjustable display apparatus comprising a pair of laterally spaced side supporting elements, each having an elongated front leg, an elongated rear leg, an upper section joined to the upper ends of the front and rear legs, and a lower section joined to the front and rear legs near the lower ends thereof. Elongated support bars are removably connected to the upper and lower sections of the supporting elements and are positioned near the rear legs of the supporting elements. A pair of support panels, such as aperture boards, are secured to the rear portions of the support bars to provide a mounting surface extending between the supporting elements. The support panels are overlapped at their inner ends and are removably connected together at their overlapped portions. Laterally adjustable display racks are removably mounted in vertically spaced relation on the support panels and are laterally adjusted to extend across the support panels from one supporting element to the other.

Abstract: A method for compressing data of two-value picture image such as an original character pattern for a phototype setting by an electronic computer, wherein an original picture image is divided into a plurality of divisional picture images by division lines and then intersections between the division lines and outlines of a character area of each divisional picture image are detected to determine start and end points, and wherein, while the outlines of the character area of each divisional picture image are traced from the start points to the end points, characteristic points are selected, and then the outlines of the character areas of the adjacent divisional picture images are connected at the start and the end points.

Abstract: An automatic tape ejecting device for a tape rewinding apparatus responsive to an increase of the tension difference between the tight side strand and the slack side strand of the transmission belt which drives the pulley to perform the tape rewinding. The change of tension difference is sensed by at least one small pulley which is arranged in the running path of the transmission belt to increase the tension thereof. The motor is driven in such direction that the tight side strand will be tightened while the slack side strand will slip in the small pulley upon the winding spindle being precluded from rotation, consequently, the increased tension on the tight side strand will initiate the cassette compartment lid ejection action and turn off the switch.

Abstract: A case having at least one row and a plurality of tandem compartments for interchangeably receiving and storing either a single boxed cassette or two unboxed cassettes in any compartment. The case has opposite side walls connected by means of a bottom wall, with the compartments disposed parallel and transverse to the opposite side walls; each compartment comprising a pair of projections separating and dividing the said compartment into storage zones on both sides of said projections. The opposite side walls define pairs of vertical ribs for guiding and securely retaining a single boxed cassette in place atop said projections, and further define vertical end stops adjacent said ribs for limiting transverse movement of unboxed cassettes stored and securely retained between said projections and opposite guides projecting inwardly from said side walls.

Abstract: A device for sensing angular deviation from the vertical. A housing forming a spherical chamber contains pendulous element comprising a circular plate immersed in a liquid having a low viscosity. The center of the plate is supported for rotational movement about two perpendicular axes of rotation by a pivot at the top of a normally vertical support rod aligned with the vertical axis of the chamber extending upwardly from the bottom of the chamber. The plate provides a couple with the liquid. Electrical pick-offs associated with the two axes of rotation provide an electrical signal proportional to the angular tilt of the circular plate about the two axes relative to the housing.

Abstract: A paint is formulated by combining fine boron nitride powder with a polymeric dispersion and a volatile liquid carrier, which paint is coated on ceramic preforms and subjected to hot pressing. The paint eliminates the formation of undesirable carbides on the surface of the pressed ceramic.

Abstract: A non-ionic composition for dispersing sludge and causing rapid separation of water for easy removal, in residual oils is formed from a blend of N-hexanol, diethylene glycol methyl ether and isooctyl phenyl polyethoxy ethanol. The dispersant, when used in 1:1,000-4,000 parts of dispersant to parts of oil, causes dispersion of the sludge and eliminates the need for physically removing the sludge.

Abstract: Method for flocculating microscopic particles in suspension in a liquid and application to the collection of phytoplankton microalgae and of zooplankton and for the purification of used water.One passes a first liquid comprising microscopic particles in suspension through a fixed granular layer (2) up to partial or complete clogging of said granular material by said microscopic particles; one unclogs at least partially said granular material in a fixed layer by passing a second liquid therethrough, moving in the same direction as the first liquid, but at a higher speed than the first; and one recovers below said layer flocculated aggregates of said microscopic particles and a liquid outflow (6).

Abstract: A tape rewinding apparatus which can be lifted in response to a sudden relaxion of the transmission belt upon the tape running to the end and the winding spindle is hindered from rotating. The change of tension is sensed by a small pulley which is biased firmly against the transmission belt and driven thereby. A controlling member having a fixed end capable of retaining a catch member is disposed on the compartment lid, and having a free end to which the small pulley is mounted. By such arrangement, at the moment the tension relaxes, the controlling member will disengage the catch member.

Abstract: Pivot angle adjusting means for the arm of a material handling device such as industrial robots are disclosed. An arm connected to a rotary shaft via a mount is pivotably mounted to a support. A cylindrical vane chamber having a rotary vane therein is mounted to the support, wherein the rotary vane secured to the rotary shaft is pivoted by a fluid supplied to the cylindrical vane chamber. A stopper is mounted to the rotary shaft and its pivot angle is detected by a pair of sensors mounted to the support. A stop is mounted to the support and is movable at a certain distance in the direction of the movement of the stopper. The stop can be placed in the locus of the movement of the stopper so as to stop the stopper at a certain intermediate point within the pivot movement of the stopper in its clockwise and counterclockwise movements, thereby stopping the arm at the intermediate point.

Abstract: The subject matter of the present invention is a feed door for a baling press with a vertical work direction, where at one press case there is fastened a press door tiltably at hinges, in order to bring material to be pressed into the work room of the baling press. The invention has the object to improve the feed door such that a large dimensioned feed opening is created upon formation of a lower support table attached horizontally tiltable at the press case, without that the feed door required for this purpose leads to a hindrance for the user of the press. For resolving the object set forth, the invention is characterized in that the feed door is separated along a horizontal line and comprises a lower and an upper part.

Abstract: A portable hydraulic lifting jack for automobiles comprising a ram cylinder receiving a ram therein, and a plunger cylinder receiving a plunger therein so that the lift head may be hydraulically lifted as the plunger is pumped by a lever, wherein a socket for receiving the lever for activating the plunger is divided into two parts so that the distance between the fulcrum belonging to one of the two parts of the socket and the working end belonging to the other part may be varied according to the need.

A bottom horizontal auger includes inner and outer auger flights of opposite hand that move feed inwardly to the pair of vertical augers. A horizontal agitator agitates feed at its ends and moves feed inwardly toward the pair of vertical augers. A top horizontal auger has top flights of opposite hand that convey feed outwardly from the pair of vertical augers.

The actuating means includes a plurality of mechanical links, having biased push rods mounted on a support housing having support means thereon for supporting a braille typing machine, whereby the push rods of the mechanical links co-operate with the respective keys of the keyboard of the braille typing machine for operation thereby.
