  • Patent number: 4138462
Abstract: The cross-linking of a moulded object based on polymeric materials is effected by heating the object in the presence of a liquid medium containing one or more peroxides under conditions that cause penetration, and the heating is continued at increasing temperatures to cause a homogeneous cross-linking.Employable peroxides are substantially stable under the first heating step but are cleaved into free radicals during the second heating step, at least the cross-linking step being carried out with the object enclosed in a liquid of approximately the same density as the polymeric material.

  • Patent number: 4137932
Abstract: Apparatus for dosing a flowing fluid, particularly for dosing an airstream with lubricant. The apparatus includes a casing for connection into the fluid flow line and, within the casing, a cartridge with the additive therein. The cartridge comprises a bag and a nozzle, the nozzle including a metering bore and a spigot which closes the metering bore. Before the cartridge is placed in the casing for use, the spigot is removed so as to open the outlet end of the metering bore. The casing includes a cartridge plate having a stepped aperture therein, the step providing an axially facing shoulder, and the nozzle including a rib which inter-engages with said shoulder to locate the cartridge in the casing. There is a stop element in the bore which is positioned so that it is engaged by said spigot before the rib interengages with the shoulder if an operator attempts to push a nozzle into said bore without having removed the spigot.

  • Patent number: 4137134
Abstract: A method for the recovery of sulphur compounds, volatile alcohols such as methanol, as well as by-products such as turpentine and the like, which are formed in connection with pulping, from the blow-expansion condensates from the evaporating series of a digestery, from turpentine mother liquors, or from other liquids in a separate treatment unit. The liquids are treated in a vacuum stripping unit by means of a proportion of secondary steam which is obtained from the last step of a multi-stage evaporating plant. The excess of secondary steam is condensed by means of indirect condensation in a first surface condenser, whose exhaust vapors, together with the vapors leaving the stripping unit and with gases that are to be removed from the evaporating steps, are condensed by means of indirect condensation in a second surface condenser.

  • Patent number: 4136813
Abstract: In a method of joining a pair of parts, wherein one of the parts is formed of a carbon-containing material and the other formed of a metal at least at its surface to be joined to said one part, the parts are first assembled with the surfaces to be joined in the required joining position, with a brazing material and a flux being provided at or adjacent the surfaces to be joined. The flux is chosen so that when raised to an elevated temperature above the melting point of the brazing material, it is capable of reacting with oxides and carbon at the surface of said one part, while the brazing material is chosen so as to be capable of being heated to said elevated temperature without decomposition. The assembly is then heated at least to said elevated temperature in a non-oxidizing atmosphere so as to melt the brazing material and cause the flux to react with surface oxides and carbon on said one part whereby, on cooling, a brazed joint is produced between the parts.

  • Patent number: 4136702
Abstract: A catheter type electrode member for an implantable pacemaker, insertable from without from the epicardium into the heart muscle for cardiac stimulation, of the type comprising a holder of dielectric elastic material including a stem terminating in an enlarged resilient pad having the shape of a platform. One major surface of the platform pivotally supporting an arcuately curved electricity conducting hook, which projects out of said pad and has its tip portion pointing back towards said major surface and preferably two spaced apart anchoring needles likewise projecting out from said major surface, conveniently in a diverging manner. Upon insertion from the outside through the epicardium of the hook into the heart muscle by a tool gripping the hook, release of the hook allows the elastic pad to expand against the outer heart surface at the same time as the anchoring needles are made to penetrate also into the epicardium, thereby positively anchoring the electrode member in position.

  • Patent number: 4134320
Abstract: In an electronic musical instrument, key switches are scanned sequentially and repetitively in a high scanning rate to deliver key data consisting of a pulse existence at an assigned time slot and representing ON-OFF states of the key switches. The key data is converted into key codes of digital notation. The key codes are assigned to and memorized in time-shared channels of a high time-sharing rate. A time-sharing rate converter reads out the key codes of digital notation and produces key gate control signals at corresponding ones of individual output terminal in a low time-sharing rate.
