  • Patent number: 4149731
Abstract: A packing for use in a steel-pipe hydraulic testing apparatus, consisting of: an annular body having an annular cut in its inner peripheral portion; a plurality of backing pieces fastened to the wall of the annular cut at a given circumferential spacing and directed in the radial direction; and a plurality of adapter pieces embedded in the inner peripheral walls of the annular body of the packing at a given circumferential spacing and exposed to the annular cut, so that the aforesaid plurality of backing pieces may be each slidable on the surfaces of a pair of adjoining adapter pieces. This packing is contracted due to a hydraulic pressure being applied to the outer periphery of the body of the packing, and as a result the respective adapter pieces will slide on the surfaces of the adapter pieces in the circumferential direction of the packing.

  • Patent number: 4149229
Abstract: A lamp assembly has a reflector body formed of an injection moulded, low profile, thermoset polyester moulding composition with an integral sleeve having a stop internally of the body. A tubular bulbholder has an external flange engaging against the stop and carries a bulb. The reflector body has upper and lower paraboloidal portions of different focal length joined together by a step facing the lower paraboloidal portion. The step decreases in width inwardly from the periphery of the reflector body. The lower paraboloidal portion has a greater focal length than the upper paraboloidal portion which projects forwardly away from the rear of the reflector body to a greater extent than the lower paraboloidal portion. A mounting flange around the reflector body has a planar surface against which a lens element engages. The mounting flange is disposed between shield and the rear of the reflector body.

  • Patent number: 4148697
Abstract: A tetraalkylthiuram disulfide is prepared in a higher yield without formation of by-products by subjecting the corresponding alkali metal dialkyldithiocarbamate to electrolytic oxidation, which is carried out in a two-layer electrolytic solution consisting essentially of either (1) water and carbon disulfide or (2) water and a mixture of carbon disulfide and a halogenated alkane of higher density than water, the carbon disulfide being predominant in the mixture, by means of electrodes placed in the aqueous layer containing the dialkyldithiocarbamate. The resulting disulfide is extracted to the lower layer of the electrolytic solution and is recovered from the layer. The dialkyldithiodicarbamate can be continuously produced in situ by adding carbon disulfide and dialkylamine gradually to the aqueous layer of the electrolytic solution, which contains an alkalimetal hydroxide produced during the electrolytic oxidation of the dialkyldithiocarbamate.

  • Patent number: 4147193
Abstract: A cutter head the entire cutting width of which is divided into a few parallel cutting strips defined by respective sets of cutting knives. The diameters of the cutting circles of the knives of the different sets increase stepwise in the direction away from the log. The angle of inclinaton of the main cutting edge of the knives in relation to the axis rotation of the cutter head is large in the case of the knives defining the cutting strips placed closest to the log and small in the case of the knives defining the cutting strips placed more distant from the log.

  • Patent number: 4147474
Abstract: A method for transferring a liquid, particularly liquid metal, from a supply to a receiver. The transfer is carried out by means of at least one suction pump located in the receiver. The outlet of the pump is covered by the liquid being pumped. A buffer zone in shape of a two phase liquid/gas zone is established and maintained between the pump and the supply and liquid from the supply is supplied to the gas phase portion of the buffer zone by discharging the liquid from liquid phase portion of the buffer zone by means of said pump. Abstract: A flexible vehicle track section for an endless vehicle track has two parallel spaced track belts mutually connected by transverse bars which also serve for transferring drive power from a vehicle wheel to the track. Each section comprises two juxtaposed moulded track units of rubber or similar material each extending over a substantial number of bars, e.g. having a length about 0.5-2 m or more. The outer side face of the unit pad carries spacingly arranged transverse gripping ribs. Apertures with suitable guide sleeves are provided in the track unit pad between the gripping ribs for mounting the transverse bars on the side face being opposite to the ribs. The transverse bars have wing portions with arcuate convex guide cleats thereon projecting in direction away from the track unit pad.
