  • Patent number: 4176861
Abstract: The subject matter relates to a blank check system which includes a stack of check blanks stacked in dispenser of plastic material. Each check blank has two parts connected at a fold line; the upper part being a blank check and the lower part being a duplicate or record portion. Upon partial withdrawal of the uppermost check blank from the frame to a predetermined position, the amount of the check being drawn may be entered and the remaining balance in the account may be inscribed on the next-succeeding check blank. The check may be fully withdrawn for completion, and the balance entered will be shown on the topmost remaining check blank to thereby provide a self-reconciling system of writing checks which automatically keeps a running balance.

  • Patent number: 4174020
Abstract: A centrifugal fan is treated acoustically by the provision of tuned noise absorption cavities preferably including absorbent infill between an acoustically permeable scroll and casing of the fan. Alternatively, or in addition an acoustically absorbent panel structure is provided in spaced confronting relationship with the inlet port of the fan. The panel structure has an acoustically permeable facing spaced from a rigid backing and the space may be divided into noise absorption cavities and specifically Helmholtz type absorption cavities, the absorption bands of which are broadened by including acoustic infill. It is most advantageous to provide a multiplicity of Helmholtz absorption cavities tuned to respective different center frequencies of their acoustic absorption bands.

  • Patent number: 4173249
Abstract: An extended nip press for a paper machine for removing water from a fiber web carried by a porous felt through a press zone in which the web is subjected to a pressure action. The press comprises press rolls forming at least two separate press nips and a sealing element positioned between the second rolls forming the press nips. The web, the felt and a band supporting the web and felt is passed through the press nips. A pressure medium chamber is limited by that part of the band which extends between the press nips, by the secondary rolls and the sealing element for subjecting the web to the pressure action. The press nips form rolling seals between the secondary rolls and the band.

  • Patent number: 4172233
Abstract: An electric vehicle traction motor control circuit includes a main thyristor in series with the motor armature. A second thyristor is connected in series with a commutating capacitor across the main thyristor which can be switched off by firing the second thyristor so that the motor current is diverted into the commutating capacitor. A third thyristor is connected in series with an inductor across the commutating capacitor and serves when fired to reverse the voltage residing on the commutating capacitor following commutating. The reversed voltage on the capacitor is detected and is used to control upper and lower current limit signals set by a driver operable control so that the capacitor is not called upon to receive a large current when it is in a low voltage condition.

  • Patent number: 4172232
Abstract: An electric vehicle traction motor control circuit includes a main thyristor in series with a fuse, and the armature of the motor. A second thyristor and a commutating capacitor are connected in series across the series combination of the main thyristor and fuse. A third thyristor is connected in series with an inductor across the capacitor, and when fired, acts to reverse the voltage stored on the capacitor following commutation. The circuit is capable of operating in an emergency operating mode when the fuse is blown, by alternate firing of the second and third thyristors at a fixed frequency.
