  • Patent number: 4171507
Abstract: An electric vehicle traction motor control circuit includes a main thyristor in series with the motor armature between two supply rails. A second thyristor is connected in series with a commutating capacitor across the main thyristor which it can turn off by diverting the motor current briefly into the commutating capacitor. A third thyristor is connected in series with an inductor across the commutating capacitor and serves when fired, to reverse the voltage residing on the commutating capacitor following commutation. The second thyristor is connected to a pulse generator which is connected to be edge-triggered by the output of a comparator comparing actual motor current with upper and lower current limits set by a driver operable control. The comparator also brings an oscillator into operation which provides additional trigger inputs to the pulse generator if the latter fails to be edge-triggered by the comparator output.

  • Patent number: 4170750
Abstract: An electric vehicle traction motor control circuit includes a main thyristor in series with the motor armature. A second thyristor is connected in series with a commutating capacitor across the main thyristor which can be turned off by firing the second thyristor to divert the motor current momentarily into the commutating capacitor. A third thyristor is connected in series with an inductor across the commutating capacitor and serves on firing to reverse the voltage residing on the commutating capacitor following commutation. A circuit is connected to detect the cessation of current flow into the commutating capacitor and acts to fire the third thyristor when such cessation is detected.

  • Patent number: 4168139
Abstract: In order to make higher production speeds possible when making confectionery lollipops a method and a device are presented wherein the separation of the pieces of confectionery takes place by means of a cutting stamp making an up and down movement in the vertical plane and, each time, a piece of confectionery is transferred to a production head in which a partially inserted stick is present already and in which the piece of confectionery is prepressed, whereupon the stick is inserted further into the piece of confectionery during a rotation of the production head to a second position in which, by means of a pressing stamp moving to and fro in radial direction, the subsequent pressing of the lollipops takes place, the production head being rotated thereupon again over a distance to a position in which the lollipop is ejected from the production head.

  • Patent number: 4167839
Abstract: A glass pane has a broken pattern of dots of an opaque non-reflective material applied to one side thereof. The pattern is applied as a ceramic ink fused into the glass surface in a heat toughening step. The arrangement of dots is such that the pattern occupies 10% to 30% of the pane surface and comprises 30 to 50 dots per linear inch. A squash or like court formed from a number of such glass panes is such that players within the court are not distracted by spectators outside and can follow the path of a squash ball with ease, whereas spectators outside the court, by virtue of differential lighting as between court and spectator area, can watch the activity within the court without diminished vision.

  • Patent number: 4166435
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes at least one combustion chamber and an inlet conduit whereby air for combustion of fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber. The inlet conduit has a main inlet and an auxiliary inlet for introducing main and auxiliary air flows respectively into the inlet conduit. Filtered and heated air is passed through a humidifier and a preheater to an air suction control valve connected between the preheater and the auxiliary inlet to provide the auxiliary air flow. • Patent number: 4165892
Abstract: The invention provides a coupling for releasably securing one end of a rod-like member. To this end a body is dimensioned to receive the rod end and support a locking element. The locking element is displaceable with respect to the body to engage the rod end and is associated with rotatable camming means. Partial rotation of the camming means imparts a camming action to force the locking element into locking engagement with the rod end and further rotation of the camming means withdraws the element to unlock the rod end. The locking partial rotation of the camming means is through an arc of substantially 90.degree. and the unlocking further rotation is through a similar arc in the same or the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4166092
Abstract: The invention provides a process for making artistic prints on paper, cloth or other sheet material having a three-dimensioned surface texture. A smooth surface plate is first prepared of a waxy composition that is ductile and malleable at ambient temperature, and is also electrically conductive. An artist treats the surface of this plate by engraving and molding to produce a three-dimensional artistic work. An electrically conductive coating is applied to the treated surface and the plate is then coated in an electrolytic bath with a thin film of copper, which constitutes a mold of the artistic work. This copper film is separated from the waxy plate, -tinned, and strengthened by casting onto it a layer of lead. The copper surface of the composite plate is inked or colored with paint, and is then placed on the platen of a printing press having pressure rollers. The sheet material to be printed is placed over the copper surface under a blanket and passed through the press.
