Abstract: Six groups of six lens elements for use in the photographic arts include a front lens group of three groups of three lens elements, and a back lens group of three groups of three lens elements. The front and back lens groups are symmetrically arranged on either side of a diaphragm mounted therebetween. The whole objective is extremely small in size and has little variation in distortion aberration caused by variation in magnification. In addition, both the image field of curvature and the coma aberration are sufficiently corrected for field angles up to 70.degree. or so under unitary magnification.
Abstract: A composite material including a rubber elastomer substrate and a polytetrafluoroethylene resin film or sheet having a porosity of 20 to 95% by volume and being laminated on at least one portion of the rubber elastomer substrate. In one preferred embodiment, a process for the production of the composite material includes the step of laminating a vulcanizable rubber elastomer with a porous film or sheet of polytetrafluoroethyle resin at a temperature and pressure sufficient to effect vulcanization of the rubber elastomer.
Abstract: A fishing reel is adapted to be shifted between casting and trolling modes and includes a housing, a spool which includes a line portion around which fishing line can be wound and which is adapted for rotation about an axis relative to the housing, and rotating means for rotating the spool. A first bearing means is provided for mounting the spool on the housing on one side of the line portion. There is a space between the entire spool surface and housing on the other side of the line portion at least wide enough to accommodate a strand of fishing line. The first bearing means includes means for accommodating movement of the spool between the normal axial position and a second position where the spool will engage the housing when pressure is exerted on the spool and return to said normal position when the pressure is relieved.
Abstract: A low alloy cast steel consisting essentially of from 0.20 to 0.35% by weight of carbon, from 1.30 to 2.80% by weight of silicon, from 0.50 to 1.50% by weight of manganese, from 3.00 to 4.50% by weight of chromium, from 0.10 to 0.50% by weight of molybdenum, at least one element selected from titanium and zirconium, the sum of the titanium content and/or the zirconium content being between 0.03 and 0.10% by weight, and the balance essentially iron, has excellent mechanical properties, i.e., a hardness of Rockwell c 50 or higher and an impact value of 4 kg-m/cm.sup.2 or higher while being devoid of a rock-candy fracture due to the presence of aluminium nitride.
Abstract: In a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus having a support which reciprocates between reproduce and stop positions and is biased by a spring in the direction of the reproduce position, a magnetic head which is mounted such that it contacts with a magnetic tape at the reproduce position and disengages from the magnetic tape at the stop position. The head is mounted on the support and a pinch roller is mounted where it can be depressed against a capstan at the reproduce position. The pinch roller is removed from the capstan at the stop position on the support or on a deck. The pinch roller is also biased by a spring in the direction of the capstan. The reproducing apparatus has a magnetic body actuator which mechanically actuates a mechanism which slightly moves the support from the reproduce position to the stop position side to a desired degree so that the magnetic head keeps a slight contact with the magnetic tape and disengages the pinch roller from the capstan.
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting lateral irregularities of the rim of a wire spoke wheel, in particular for use in a machine for centering such spoke wheels of the type having a wheel spindle, a hub rotatable on the spindle, a wheel rim and a plurality of adjustable spokes extending between the hub and the rim. The apparatus comprises spindle holding means for receiving and fixedly holding the wheel spindle and mounted in the frame of the apparatus for free sliding movement in the axial direction of the wheel spindle, and two oppositely arranged rim followers adapted to engage the wheel rim on both sides thereof at one location of the wheel circumference so as to hold the rim in a fixed lateral position at this location while allowing the wheel rim to be rotated about the spindle, and detecting means for detecting lateral displacements of the spindle holding means when the wheel is so rotated.
Abstract: A method for the batch thermal cracking of heavy oils, such as steam blowing for production of binder pitch, employing a reactor having a rotary injection pipe which is rotatable within the reactor. Upon completion of the thermal cracking and withdrawal of the reaction product, the injection pipe ejects preheated raw material under pressure against the interior wall surfaces of the reactor while in rotation to remove coke which has deposited on the reactor walls during the previous cracking operation.

Abstract: A photographic processing apparatus including a printer assembly wherein photographic paper or sheet in a roll form is paid out intermittently for printing, when the sheet is stopped, and the printed sheet is cut to a size corresponding to a frame of a film. The cut sheets are delivered to an automatic photographic sheet distributing assembly, one-by-one, in which the sheets are assembled in rows of two or more, and delivered to a sheet-feeding device, which then supplies the rows of cut sheets to an automatic developing assembly. A large-size photographic paper or sheet, which has been enlarged or printed on another printer, may be directly supplied to the sheet-feeding device and then to the automatic developing assembly. The developing assembly includes a series of treatment tubs which are used in a conventional manner to develop the cut photographic sheets fed in rows, or used together to develop large-size photographic sheets fed one after another.
Abstract: An extruding and molding material suitable for the production of packaging materials for the protection of metal articles against corrosion is obtained by admixing a thermoplastic resin with an organic monoamine and an acid. The organic monoamine and the acid react to form a volatile corrosion inhibitor at the high temperature encountered in the extruding and molding process.
Abstract: A conveying mechanism for a non-woven carpet machine which includes a pair of conveyor belts along each edge of the backing material for pulling the backing material from its roll and pushing it toward a portion of the machine where bonding material is applied to the backing material. Hot air from the curing oven can be directed against the backing material after the bonding material is applied thereto to make the bonding material tacky so that when yarn is embedded in the bonding material it will not easily be pulled out.A mechanism for advancing the backing material includes means for intermittently pulling the backing layers at a constant rate of speed through the well of the machine and oven and past the cutting mechanism, while a pin roller engages the backing material before the well. An adjustable torque controlled motor is connected to the pin roller so that a constant tension is maintained in the backing material.
Abstract: The invention relates to a pressurization apparatus with an intermediate reserve vessel.This apparatus comprises a first enclosure or "pressurizer" having a sprinkler system located in the upper parts thereof and a first heating system and a second enclosure or "intermediate reserve vessel" having a second heating system, whereby a first pipe connects the base of said reserve vessel with the said reactor loop or vessel, while a second unidirectional pipe passes liquid from the lower part of said pressurizer towards the upper part of said reserve vessel and a third unidirectional pipe passes the said liquid from the upper part of the said reserve vessel to the said sprinkler system.
Abstract: This invention provides a bandwidth switching circuit for an intermediate frequency amplifier stage in an FM receiver that insures clear reception of desired signals by automatically switching the intermediate frequency amplifier stage between the wide and narrow bandwidths according to the radio field conditions. The bandwidth switching circuit includes a detector for detecting beat components due to interference contained in received signals and a change-over switch for switching the bandwidth switching circuit according to signals detected by the detector, whereby the bandwidth of the intermediate frequency amplifier stage is automatically switched depending on whether the beat components are present or not.
Abstract: A test plug assembly for insertion into a housing for preventing liquid under pressure from flowing therethrough includes an assembly body with an undersurface shaped and dimensioned to mate with a shaped upper portion of the housing. A plurality of flanges which project from the outer surface of the body are located and spaced apart so that the studs can pass between the flanges when the body is inserted into the housing and so that the uppermost surface of the flanges will engage the lowermost surface of the studs when the shaped upper portion and undersurface are in contact and the body is rotated relative to the housing. The body further includes a gripper for gripping the body so it can be rotated into engagement with the housing.
Abstract: The present invention provides a magnetic tape recorder for recording randomly occurring signals and includes tape supply and takeup reels with associated reel drives and a loop support device to support a loop of magnetic tape extending between the reels. The loop support device is adapted to selectively vary the length of the loop between a maximum and a minimum length. A tape drive capstan and magnetic head are provided between the supply reel and the loop support device to, respectively, transport the magnetic tape from the supply reel to the loop support device and to record data on the tape. Another tape drive capstan and magnetic head are provided between the takeup reel and the loop support device to, respectively, transport the magnetic tape from the loop support device to the takeup reel and to record data on the magnetic tape. An auxiliary capstan is provided to selectively transport the magnetic tape from the takeup reel to the loop support device.
Abstract: Improved method and apparatus for forming an electrostatic latent image on a recording medium by the simultaneous projection of an ion current and exposure to image light, in which a control grid for controlling the ion current has a plurality of layers, including a photoconductive layer, a conductive layer, and an insulating layer. A first bias voltage is applied to the conductive layer to form an electric field which directs the ion current toward the recording medium, and a second bias voltage, higher than the first bias voltage, forms a second electric field in the control grid for controlling passage of the ions. The recording medium is adapted to absorb the image light thereon.
Abstract: Process for conditioning contaminated ion-exchange resins, more particularly contaminated cationic resins, wherein the contaminated ion-exhange resin or resins are brought into contact with a basic compound in a sufficient quantity to block the active sites of the cationic resin or resins, the thus treated ion-exchange resin or resins are incorporated into an ambient temperature-thermosetting resin and the latter is crosslinked.

Abstract: A mobile, abrasive, surface treating device in which an impeller fan is disposed within a circular housing to direct a stream of abrasive material from a hopper against the treated surface in a blasting fashion. A movable frame assembly supports the open face of the housing in abutment with the treated surface, and a resilient element on the housing prevents dispersal of the abrasive material. The spent abrasive material is recovered and recycled by a continuous bucket conveyor system. Fluid motors cooperate with a system of winches and cables to control movement of the device over the treated surface.
Abstract: A flexible, heat-controlled doctor knife has a flat, flexible, heat-generating element affixed to one side of the knife blade. Blade flexing means which can adjust the angle of the working edge of the knife are provided on one side of the blade, adjacent to the working edge. The heat-generating element provides uniform heating of the knife and is a laminate having an electrically-conducting layer with alternating layers of a synthetic resin insulator and aluminum foil. An edge of the heat-generating element extends adjacent to the blade flexing means. Temperature control means regulate the heating of the blade.
Abstract: In a flowmeter, a permanent magnet is employed to apply a DC magnetic field to the liquid flowing through a pipe section. The magnet is mounted in a U-shaped housing adapted to fit over a nonmagnetic, nonconductive pipe section. Electrically conducting probes extend through the pipe section to contact liquid flowing through the pipe section at points spaced along a line perpendicular to the direction of the field applied by the magnet and perpendicular to the flow. As the magnet is brought into position over the pipe section, the approach of the magnet to the pipe section is detected by the closing of a reed switch. In response to the reed switch closing, a signal voltage proportional to the voltage across the two probes in contact with the liquid flowing through the pipe is stored on a capacitor.
