Abstract: A variable speed transmission device including a torque variator of the type in which a first rotatable element is in rolling friction engagement with a second nutatable element having an axis movable in a biconical path about the axis of the first element. The first element supports a pair of axially movable cone-like members fixed for rotation with the first element and each having exterior surfaces of revolution defined by a curved generatrix to be convex in axial section and converging away from a point of first and second element axes intersection. The rolling friction surfaces of the second element are defined by interior cylindrical surfaces on a tube-like member and means are provided for adjusting the angle of the second element axis with respect to the first to vary the radii at the point of frictional contact on the cone-like members.
Abstract: In a dispenser for powdered products, the bottom wall of the storage container comprises a stationary outlet spout forming a measuring chamber and cooperating with a horizontally displaceable valve member having upper and lower walls to obstruct the upper and lower ends of the spout in respective extreme positions of the valve member. The upper wall of the valve member is integral with an agitator member that is slidable along an inclined section of the bottom wall of the container.
Abstract: A digital frequency display device for digitally displaying the operating frequency of a communication apparatus comprising a reference frequency oscillator, a first frequency mixer for mixing the output frequencies of a first oscillator of the communication apparatus and of the reference frequency oscillator, a second frequency mixer for mixing the output frequency of a second oscillator of the communication apparatus and the resultant frequency provided from the first frequency mixer to produce the display frequency shifted by the reference frequency, and a frequency counter for counting the output frequency from the second frequency mixer and for correcting the shifted frequency component to display the correct frequency.
Abstract: A feedback control system for controlling the air/fuel ratio of a combustible mixture fed to an internal combustion engine based on the output of an exhaust sensor includes an input circuit of a high input impedance, which serves as a prefatory circuit to a control signal producing circuit to match the high internal impedance of the sensor at low exhaust gas temperatures. The input circuit has an operational amplifier with its noninverting input terminal connected to the sensor and, optionally, two or more switchable resistors to adjust the input impedance.

Abstract: In a first step, uranium hexafluoride gas is reacted with steam in a first region of a vessel. In a second step, the oxyfluoride UO.sub.2 F.sub.2 obtained in the first step is converted to UO.sub.2 in a two-stage reduction process in which it is first contacted with a mixture of hydrogen gas and steam in one zone of the second region of the vessel, then contacted with the hydrogen gas in another zone of the second region.
Abstract: From an exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides, the nitrogen oxides can be advantageously removed by contacting the exhaust gas with ammonia in the presence of a substance derived from laterite.
Abstract: In a hand-operated knitting machine having a machine body, a needle bed, a carriage slideably mounted on said needle bed, and electrical means on said machine body and on said carriage, means for providing electrical connection between said electrical means without mechanically or otherwise interfering with machine operation. Interference is avoided by the use of a coiled electrical cord suspended from a lever pivotally mounted on a rod mounted on the machine body, the lever being positioned above the carriage and needle bed.
Abstract: A machine for drawing on a photographic plate and especially for integrated ircuit masks comprises an electro-optical imager having an optical axis x-x', means for controlling the optical state of each point which has dimensions corresponding to the smallest detail to be drawn on the plate, the entire light beam issuing from the imager being applied to an objective which provides a magnification n and has an axis corresponding to the optic axis. Means for producing the relative displacement of the imager and of the photosensitive plate in a plane at right angles to the optic axis and in two orthogonal directions are controlled as a function of indications supplied by means for measuring the relative displacement.

Abstract: An apparatus for compressing material includes a hollow chamber defined by a plurality of walls, a piston-plate, and means for moving the piston-plate between maximum inner and outer limits, a hopper being in one of the walls located between those two maximum limits of movement. The apparatus further includes a plurality of engaging means located at the maximum outer limit of the piston-plate for engaging the compressed material and stopping rearward movement thereof. There is further included adjusting means for adjusting the distance between portions of the opposite walls located beyond the outer limit of the piston-plate.
Abstract: A grip for tennis rackets and the like has an elongated shaft with a longitudinal hole extending axially from the free end and a plurality of grooves on the outer surface. A tubular reinforcing member provided with a plurality of perforations is disposed within the hole. The shaft is provided with a plurality of passages which extend radially from the longitudinal hole to the outer surface, with passages provided on the free end of the shaft. A protective cap is attached to the free end of the shaft, and a plurality of protrusions on the inner surface of the cap space the cap from the shaft to define a ventilation chamber. A central opening in the cap is aligned with the longitudinal hole, and the perforations in the reinforcing member are in fluid communication with the hole and the grooves on the outer surface to provide complete ventilation of the grip.
Abstract: The method consists in generating an electrical signal B which is representative of the time-dependent variations in transparency, in generating a pulse at the initial instant of measurement, in carrying out an initial measurement of the slope of the curve at the beginning of the portion which has a steep slope, in comparing at predetermined instants the measured value of the initial slope with the slope of the curve which is representative of the signal B at these instants, in generating a second pulse when the measured slope becomes significantly different from the initial slope, and in measuring the time interval which elapses between the first and second pulses.

Abstract: In a ball valve, springs urging opposed annular valve seats into engagement with the ball press against heat sensitive material, and bushes between trunnions and sockets in the ball are made of heat sensitive material, so that, in the event of fire reaching a ball valve in a pipeline, and the valve being closed, said heat sensitive material and said bushes disintegrate, and the ball is moved by fluid pressure relative to the trunnions in the downstream direction and pushes the downstream valve seat into sealing engagement with the valve housing.

Abstract: Solar radiations having longer wavelengths than those which are useful for plant development are selectively absorbed by an optical filter formed by two transparent walls which constitute at least part of the roofing structure of a greenhouse or "lean-to" frame and by a heat-transporting fluid which is circulated between the walls in a closed-circuit system. The heat absorbed is removed and stored in a separate reservoir, then recovered at night by pumping and circulating the fluid so as to maintain a predetermined minimum temperature within the greenhouse.

Abstract: A fibre bundle is first formed from loosely entangled fibres. A sheath is formed over the fibre bundle and one end is dipped into an urethane prepolymer to fill the spaces among fibres with the urethane prepolymer. After removal from the prepolymer it is left to stand for a period of time during which the constituents in the urethane prepolymer react to form polyurethane and generate carbon dioxide gas which forms many capillary passages for the transudation of ink. By grinding the dipped end a marking pen is obtained having a nib and an ink reservoir integral therewith.
