Abstract: A method is provided herein for the electrochemical corrosion protection of a partly submersed, rotating, stainless steel drum in a vat containing a corrosive, oxidizing, chloride-containing bleach liquor. The method comprises the step of impressing a protection potential to the stainless steel drum at a predetermined voltage in the range of -600 to +400 mV.sub.Ag/AgCl. This predetermined voltage is sufficiently low to draw the stainless steel into a passive corrosion protection zone. However, that voltage is not sufficiently low to draw the stainless steel into a zone of uniform corrosion. Specific means for the placement of the anode in the vat are also provided.

Abstract: A photosensitive composition useful as a photoresist which may be completely processed by dry techniques, especially by means of an oxygen plasma. The composition includes an N-vinylmonomer and an organic hydrogen compound in a binder which contributes significantly to the utility of the composition in the fabrication of micro-electronic devices.
Abstract: A trouble light comprising a reflector, a cage and a handle all made of synthetic resin polymer, in which at least a part of the handle and either the reflector or the cage are molded as an integral unit.
Abstract: A resilient contact member to be installed in a jack for use in conjunction with a pin-plug comprising a fixed leg portion to be fixed to an inner wall of a housing of the jack, a movable leg portion having a portion which is to be engaged with a pin portion of the pin-plug inserted into the jack to make an electrical connection between the jack and pin-plug, a substantially U-shaped portion for connecting the fixed and movable leg portions to each other at their one ends, said fixed and movable leg portions extending in parallel with each other, and a projection integrally formed with the fixed leg portion or the movable leg portion and extending toward the movable leg portion or the fixed leg portion. The projection has such a length that the movable leg portion could not be displaced beyond an elastic limit of the U-shaped portion. The fixed and movable leg portions, U-shaped portion and projection are all formed integrally with each other by punching a thin metal plate.

Abstract: A pierced metal blank having an annular cross-section with one end closed and the other end open for use in the manufacture of seamless tubes has a bore with portions of different diameters, the portion of larger diameter, which is adjacent the open end of the blank has a wall thickness which is less than that of the portion of smaller diameter which is adjacent the closed end of the blank. Preferably there is a conical transition between the two portions of different diameters. The blank is preferably made from a metal billet of square cross-section in a substantially cylindrical piercing mould by piercing the billet within the mould by means of a stepped mandrel which presses the material of the square billet outwards into contact with the cylindrical wall of the mould.

Abstract: The invention describes a method and a means for supplying nozzles comprising concentric pipes with gaseous and/or liquid hydrocarbons in which oxygen or oxygen-containing gases are simultaneously introduced into a converter. In so doing, the gases and/or liquid hydrocarbons are conducted through collecting pipes leading into distribution chambers. They are conducted from the distribution chambers through hydrocarbon volume control devices, which are integrally arranged along with the hydrocarbon distribution devices in a rotatable device element of the rotatable control unit, on to nozzle pipes. Then, the gaseous hydrocarbons are further conducted through a safety control member arranged downstream from the hydrocarbon volume control device. Thus, the even supply of gaseous and/or liquid hydrocarbons to the nozzles is ensured at highly varying throughput rates and alternate supply, in a manner which is simple and reliable.
Abstract: A training aid for foot muscles comprising a toe portion having a core member made of heavy metal such as lead and a resilient surface member surrounding the core member, and a heel portion having a core member made of heavy metal such as lead and a resilient surface member surrounding the core member. The toe and heel portions are so shaped that they form substantially a sole configuration, when they are placed side by side on the sole of a shoe.
Abstract: A tuyere for the injection of both a refining gas such as oxygen into a melting or refining vessel, and a fluid protective medium such as a hydrocarbon gas or a liquid surrounding the injected refining gas, in which there is a solid center in the pipe through which the refining gas is suplied so that the refining gas enters the refining vessel as an annulus around which the protective fluid is disposed. The tuyere is installd in the refractory lining of the refining vessel and the fluids passing into the vessel through the tuyere are proportioned so that burning back of the tuyere and erosion or wear of the lining take place at the same rate. The protective medium cools the tuyere and avoids reactions between the refining gas and the tuyere material.
Abstract: In a hot water extraction process for removing bitumen from oil sands, the efficiency is improved by filtering the wet tailings to recover hot water, bitumen and diluent which are returned and recovered in the process. Dry tailings are also produced which can be disposed of in a manner which permits reconservation of the mined out area and which eliminates environmental pollution impact on surrounding water bodies and land bodies.
Abstract: A filtering member for use in a filter such as an oil filter for removing impurities of different sizes contained in a fluid such as a working oil in an oil pressure apparatus comprises a cylindrical body made of resilient or flexible and porous material such as fabrics, porous synthetic resin, etc, the porosity of the cylindrical body decreasing gradually toward a center thereof. The filtering member can be easily and inexpensively manufactured by winding or deforming a sheet like member made of resilient material having a uniform porosity over its thickness into a cylindrical body in such a manner that an outer portion is expanded or stretched, but an inner portion is compressed.
