Patent number: 4509126Abstract: An adaptive control for a turning machine which adjusts the machining rate to maintain the actual horsepower dissipated at the cutter tip at a constant set point despite changing workpiece and cutter parameters. The machining rate is adjusted by control of the machine drive and tool feed to achieve required SFM and IPR values, respectively, within maximum and minimum SFM and IPR limits. "Speed" and "Axis" override controls are also provided. The rate of adjustment of SFM and IPR to a deviation of the cutter tip horsepower from the set point is inversely proportional to the measured system gain so that the response factor of the control loop is maximized. The cutter tip horsepower is determined by subtracting the electrical loss, mechanical friction loss, and the net power required for net acceleration of the drive, from the measured electrical power supplied to the drive motor. The cutting efficiency is monitored to perform tool wear, tool breakage, and tool protection functions.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1982Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: AMCA International CorporationInventors: Eugene A. Patent number: 4505780Abstract: Two weatherstrippings are joined before the application of any backing to the woven strip of artificial yarn which carries the rows of pile which form the air barrier. A plastics material is placed across the butted ends of the strips in contact with the lower surfaces of the strips and the two are then welded together ultrasonically to join the weatherstrippings. The backing can then be applied over the joint. A jig for performing such a joining method comprises two holders for carrying the strips by their pile with the lower surfaces uppermost. The holders are formed in two parts to allow the strips to be cut to form a clean straight end. One part of each holder is then removed and the remaining parts slid together to butt the two strips. A piece of heat-weldable material is then placed over the butted ends in contact with the lower surfaces and is heat welded to the strips to complete the join.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1983Date of Patent: March 19, 1985Assignee: Linear LimitedInventor: George R. Patent number: 4503940Abstract: A variable-voltage variable-frequency elevator control apparatus is disclosed in which a circuit for the consumption of regenerated power produced during regenerative braking is provided on the DC side of the apparatus rather than on the AC side. During regenerative braking with an emergency generating unit in operation, regenerated power is consumed by the consumption circuit on the DC side of the circuit and is prevented from being returned to the emergency generating unit. This prevents the production of voltage notches commonly produced during regenerative braking by thyristor commutation in conventional circuits. Because no voltage notches are produced, a reduction in the size of the emergency generating unit can be achieved. In addition, since it consumes DC power rather than 3-phase AC power, the consumption circuit requires fewer elements than in conventional control apparatuses.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1984Date of Patent: March 12, 1985Assignee: Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Eiki Watanabe
