  • Patent number: 7119071
Abstract: The present invention establishes the fact that the degradation of SP to SP(1-4) by endogenous NEP in BM stroma can be a mediator of hematopoietic stimulation by stem cell factor (SCF) and induce the production of TGF-? and TNF-? in BM stroma. The present invention establishes that compositions containing the SP(1-4) polypeptide, or NEP genetic elements, can be used to slow and or stop the rapid growth of stem and progenitor cells thus protecting them from the deleterious effects of cancer therapy. Hence, the polynucleotides and proteins of the present invention may be used to protect stem cells from the toxic effects of chemo- and radio-therapy, in those undergoing, or about to undergo such cancer related treatments. Also provided are compositions containing NEP antisense sequences and antibodies used for the increased proliferation and differentiation of stem and/or progenitor cells in those whom have already undergone chemo- and/or radio-therapy.

  • Patent number: 7097984
Abstract: Methods and kits are provided for manipulating and predicting the reproductive capacity of a female subject. The presence of endogenous neurotrophins and addition of exogenous neurotrophins, particularly BDNF, NT-4/5, and NGF, increase the reproductive capacity of a female patient by binding to receptors on the oocytes and stimulating maturation of the oocytes. Administration of antagonists act as a contraceptive because the antagonists prevent the neurotrophins from binding to oocyte receptors. Neurotrophins may also be used to stimulate the maturation of oocyte in vitro.

  • Patent number: 7064242
Abstract: A patch comprising a backing layer and a adhesive layer formed on the back face of the backing layer wherein a woven fabric or a nonwoven fabric made of a rayon and pulp fiber mixture is employed as the backing layer and the mixing ratio thereof is from 3:7 to 7:3. When employed in taping a finger, a wrist, an ankle, neck, an elbow, a knee or the like, the patch would not soon curl up or peel off at an overlapping part. After the patch is adhered and then stripped off, no fiber piece remains on the pressure-sensitive adhesive face of the backing layer so that the adhesive force of the patch can be sustained in the case of re-adhesion.
