  • Patent number: 4215819
Abstract: The invention relates to the application of powder coatings to vital components of equipment in various industries. The apparatus comprises a barrel for application of powder to the article and a gas distribution unit which connects fuel gas feeding passages and a purging gas feeding passage to the barrel. Gases are fed to outlet pipes of gas passages from appropriate gas sources under pressure through valves mounted in the pipes. The outlet opening of the purging gas passage may, in some embodiments be located upstream of the zone of admission of fuel gases to the barrel in the path of flow of purging gas. The pressure of the purging gas source exceeds the pressure of each of the fuel gas sources so that, upon feeding fuel gas to the barrel, the valves mounted at the outlet pipes of the fuel gas passages shut-off these pipes. After the valve mounted in the purging gas passage is closed, the valves mounted in the fuel pipes admit fuel gases to the barrel to build-up a detonation wave.

  • Patent number: 4213834
Abstract: The electrochemical working method according to the invention comprises the use of two electrodes whereof one oscillates with respect to the other. Voltage pulses are applied to the electrodes in synchronization with the oscillation and are continued to be applied thereto when the electrodes are found at a minimum distance from one the other. As the electrodes are brought apart, cavitation is produced in the interelectrode gap, which phenomenon is accompanied by a change in the relative resistance of the gap. A cavitation transducer is used to measure a parameter which unambiguously determines the cavitation intensity corresponding to a preset minimum gap. In order to control the electrochemical treatment process, a comparator produces a signal equal to the difference between a signal corresponding to the actual relative value of the parameter function and formed by a computing unit, and a signal corresponding to a predetermined value of the parameter.

  • Patent number: 4213027
Abstract: A method of treating electrodes intended for operation in argon as electric arc cathodes. Each of the electrodes being treated consists of a holder with an active insert. The active insert comprises elements selected from the series of rare-earth elements, yttrium, alkali-earth elements, elements of Group IV A of the periodic system and compounds thereof, taken separately or in combination. The electrodes are treated in an electric arc burning in an atmosphere of argon and an active gas, such as nitrogen or oxygen. During the course of treatment the electrode functions as a cathode. A mixture of argon and oxygen or argon and nitrogen is fed to the cathode area of the arc. The duration of the electrode treatment cycle is at least 100 times less than that of the electrode operation time in an argon arc. Treatment is conducted by currents that do not exceed the maximum operating current values of the treated electrode. The volume concentration of the active gas in the mixture varies from 0.1 to 100%.

  • Patent number: 4213018
Abstract: A method of making an explosion proof contact assembly and the resulting contact assembly are described wherein the electrical contacts are first rigidly mounted on a contact unit or subassembly prior to the molding operation. This approach allows complete assembly of the contacts prior to molding of the contact unit within the insulating body, while maintaining required flame path for explosion proof atmospheres. The present invention eliminates post-molding assembly operations which are extremely difficult and substantially raise the cost of producing the contact assemblies.
