  • Patent number: 5872534
Abstract: An electromagnetic wave absorber, having two or more magnetic layers for broadening the reduced reflectivity frequency bands, and formed of materials with staggered magnetic dispersion loss spectra. A high permeability nickel-zinc ferrite, rich in zinc, e.g., 0.7 molZn, 0.3 molNi is used as a reference absorber layer adjacent to a ground plane. The successively higher frequency spectra are related to the outer layers and the successively higher loss spectra are achieved by using higher magnetization soft ferro or ferrimagnetics, higher anisotropy semi-hard or hard ferro-ferrimagnetic material, or synthesized "smart" materials, for simulating magnetic loss dispersion. The successive layers are decoupled one from another by any of electrical, magnetic, and/or structural arrangements. The decoupling may be implemented by a significant difference in the frequencies at which the maximum values of the magnetic loss vs. frequency occurs for each layer.

  • Patent number: 5868797
Abstract: A tibia fixturing device comprises a metal tray formed with annularly spaced recesses in its underside at a depth of at least about 1.5 mm and from which a stem depends for axial insertion into a tibia conical cavity. The stem has a circular cylindrical portion proximal the tray and a conical portion distal the tray. Fins radially extend from the stem cylindrical portion and penetrate the tibia to provide some torsional resistance. Axially extending channels are formed about the stem periphery which channels have bottom surfaces parallel to the stem axis to provide further torsional resistance. The channels are arranged to not interlock with the cement in the axial direction to permit the cement to separate first from the device during axial removal of the device from the bone. The fins have inclined edges distal the tray and inclined radial outer edges to align and center the stem to the bone cavity edge.

  • Patent number: 5863216
Abstract: A short-circuit terminal fitting 30 is provided with a protection wall 35 to prevent deformation of elastic contact portions due to interference by other members and to prevent excessive deformation of the elastic contact portions due to an excessive pressing displacement of a lock arm. The protection wall 35 is so formed as to surround the leading free ends of elastic contact portions 32 which are fixed at one end thereof and hanging at the other end thereof. When the short-circuiting terminal fitting 30 is handled alone, the elastic contact portions 32 are unlikely to be interfered with by other members since they are surrounded by the protection wall 35 and, accordingly, the deformation of the elastic contact portions 32 due to interference by other members can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 5851004
Abstract: An all metal diaphragm valve is provided. The valve includes a housing having an inlet passage and an outlet passage each of which communicates with a valve chamber. Portions of the inlet passage in the valve chamber are surrounded by a toroidal sealing bead. The valve further includes a resilient metallic diaphragm which is dished and in an unbiased condition projects away from the toroidal sealing bead. Thus, fluid may flow through the inlet passage, through the valve chamber and out of the outlet passage. Actuation of a valve stem will cause the metal diaphragm to deflect toward and into sealing engagement with the toroidal sealing bead. The surface of the diaphragm that engages the toroidal sealing bead is formed from a very hard metallic alloy. However adjacent layers of the diaphragm are formed from softer metals.

  • Patent number: 5847338
Abstract: A slidable element is provided for easy positioning in a guide slot when a handle is withdrawn. A handle 40 is inclinably provided on a mount body 35 bearing a movable electrode 31 by a support shaft 45. The support shaft 45 is loosely movable with respect to the mount body 35 by being fixed to the handle 40 and being inserted through oblong holes 42 formed in bearing portions 41 of the mount body 35. In order to withdraw the handle 40, it is necessary to position slidable projections 70 at the bottom ends of linear portions 75 of guide slots 74 while the handle 40 is pulled up. Since the support shaft 45 is movable upward within the oblong holes 42, the handle 40 can singly be pulled up while the movable electrode 31 is still engaged with the fixed electrodes 11a, 11b. During this time, the slidable projections 70 can be positioned and passed through the linear portions 75 of the guide slots 74 with a small force.

  • Patent number: 5847820
Abstract: A laser apparatus is provided for sensing rotational orientation or the degree of levelness. The apparatus includes a photosensitive cell and a diode laser directing a laser beam toward the photosensitive cell. Both the diode laser and the photosensitive cell may be mounted in a rigid housing. A ball lens is rotatably mounted between the diode laser and the photosensitive cell such that the laser beam must pass through the ball lens to impinge upon the position sensitive cell. The ball lens is subject to limited movement within the housing. The control for limiting movement of the ball lens may be a circular raceway or a negative lens. Movement of the ball lens within the circular raceway or on the negative lens causes the laser beam to shift on the target. The position of the laser beam on the target is a function of the position of the ball lens and can be correlated to either the rotational orientation of the housing or the degree of levelness of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5842560
Abstract: A breaker device is provided to prevent an insufficient engagement of electrodes. The device, according to the invention, is excellent in safety because of its construction in which a conductive path is located inside the casing 1 and is allowed to have a compact configuration of particularly low height because a handle 40 can be inclined to its resting position. When the handle 40 is inclined to the resting position while a movable electrode 31 is insufficiently engaged, engaging portions 77 come into contact with receiving portions 75 and a lever action works with the contact positions of the engaging portions 77 and the receiving portions 75 as a fulcrum. As a result, a rotating force applied to an operable portion 40A is translated into a downward acting engaging force applied to the movable electrode 31 via rotation center shafts 45 and a mount body 35.
