  • Patent number: 5301436
Abstract: A fixture for measuring runout in firearm cartridges, casings and bullets is provided. The fixture holds the cartridge at the tip and forward of the rim for rotation. A self centering tip bearing holds the tip of the cartridge, casing or bullet for rotation about an axis of rotation. The exterior surface of the cartridge, casing or bullet is supported in a V-shaped knife edge bearing. The distance from the knife edge bearing to the tip bearing is adjustable to accommodate various cartridge sizes. Interchangeable tip bearing tools are provided for rotatably holding bullets and casings, and for locating areas of variation in the thickness of the casing wall. The thickness indicating tool has a flat surface offset from the cartridge axis, which rests against the curved interior surface of a casing, forming a chord which supports the interior surface at two points. The gauge arm, placed on the outside of the casing between the two points, can then measure the relative thickness of the casing wall.

  • Patent number: 5282932
Abstract: A fluffy pulp previously dried, having a consistency by 90%, is introduced in a baler where it is subjected to a carbon dioxide comprising atmosphere in order to both reduce or eliminate the fire risk in the baler and to decrease the pH of the pulp by chemically reacting with it. Both gaseous and liquid (snow) carbon dioxide can be used. Preferably, carbon dioxide snow is injected at the bottom of the baler to accelerate the pH control of the pulp, just before compressing the pulp in bales, which compression enhances the pH control reaction between the pulp and the carbon dioxide.

  • Patent number: 5275509
Abstract: A method of disposing of photographic fixer and developer. The fixer and developer, preferably in equal quantities, are mixed and the mixture combined with an absorbing polymer which is substantially insoluble in the mixture of photographic fixer and developer. The polymer is capable of absorbing at least approximately 20 times its weight of the electrolytic aqueous base solution of fixer and developer. Once immobilized, the silver precipitates as insoluble silver sulfide and the mixture can be disposed of in a landfill or similar site designed to receive nontoxic waste.

  • Patent number: 5252340
Abstract: A method of producing an absorbent composition. A polymeric material characterized as having surface anionic reactive sites is mixed with a source of multivalent metal ions to render the polymeric material sorbent of aqueous liquids. A dispersant is then added to form a wet slurry which is subsequently dried to a granular consistency.

  • Patent number: 5242254
Abstract: An end wall 9, for attachment to a container, has a central panel 10 and surrounded by a channel portion 11 which includes a deposit of solder 19 in the form of a paste of solder and flux. The can end 9 is joined by a double seam 23 to a sidewall 12 of a container body. Heating of the double seam melts the solder to create a soldered joint between the end wall and sidewall. The invention is to be used in the manufacture of containers requiring strong double seams and may be used to make containers for carriage of dangerous goods. Apparatus for applying solder pastes to can ends is described in which paste is urged from a pot against convex surface 37 before passing through oulet nozzles 38 onto a can end.
