  • Patent number: 5104296
Abstract: A hydraulically actuated downhole pump assembly for producing a well is powered by a fluid that is pumped downhole to an engine end thereof. The pump assembly has a pump end which is connected to a source of formation fluid so that the engine end drives the pump end and the pump end lifts produced fluid to the surface of the ground. The pump end has a pump barrel and a pump piston is reciprocatingly received in sealed relationship within the pump barrel. The engine end has an outer engine barrel, and an annular valve element is reciprocatingly received in sealed relationship within the outer barrel. The valve element moves up and down between two positions of operation while an engine piston reciprocates within the annular valve element and in so doing aligns various flow passageways in a manner to alternately apply power fluid to appropriate sides of the piston and valve element to force the engine piston to reciprocate.

  • Patent number: 5085349
Abstract: A unitary resilient valve device that can be used in a system for delivering liquid from a container to a person'mouth. The valve is in the form of an elongated body member that forms a hollow structure having an open inlet end opposed to a closed outlet end. A fluid supply chamber is formed between the inlet and outlet ends, and the open end is connected to the end of a length of tubing in order to supply fluid flow to the supply chamber, while the closed end provides a closure member that normally precludes fluid flow therethrough. The body member can be deformed to move the valve into an opened configuration to enable fluid flow to occur therethrough. A slit is formed in the closure member. The slit extends through the end wall and communicates the supply chamber with ambient whenever the slit is defomed into the opened position.

  • Patent number: 5081447
Abstract: Apparatus for influencing a person preferentially to sleep on his side and not on his back. A gravity actuated sensor apparatus is attached to a sleeping person for detecting body position and to sound an alarm informing the person when he is resting on his back; thereby enticing the person to sleep on one side or the other and not on his back. Appropriate circuitry connects the sensor apparatus and alarm so that the alarm is actuated in response to the sensor apparatus detecting an undesirable body position. The sensor apparatus is positioned on one's head, or alternatively, is positioned on one's body. The alarm can be sensed by a sleeper to thereby induce the sleeper to move to an alternate position whenever he attempts to rest on his back for more than a few seconds.

  • Patent number: 5062187
Abstract: A portable system for reworking the inside diameter of heavy oil field casing, and especially casing that has irregularities on the inner surface thereof that render the casing unsuitable for use in deep wells. A cutting head assembly is rotated as it is forced into the interior of a joint of casing. The cutting head assembly includes a mandrel which turns a special cutting device having a plurality of cutters for engaging and cutting the inner wall of the pipe as the entire cutterhead is forced to travel through the pipe. Alignment members attached to the mandrel on either side of the cutting device maintain the longitudinal axis of the cutters in proper alignment to produce the desired new pipe inside diameter. After the first half of the pipe is sized or trued, the joint of casing is reversed and the other half is cut to the same new desired inside diameter. Included in the system is a special grinder for reworking pipe having only marginal imperfections.

  • Patent number: 5060833
Abstract: A water system that allows a bicyclist to drink liquids anytime he desires. The system has a collapsible container of water or other liquid stored within a flexible back pack that is removably secured at a location between the shoulders of the bicyclist. A resilient mouthpiece adapted to be held in the mouth of the bicyclist is connected to the container by a length of tubing. The mouthpiece is a valve device and has a cylindrical sidewall that forms a chamber. A spring biased valve element located inside the chamber normally prevents flow therethrough. When the opposed sidewalls of the chamber are compressed between the teeth, liquid flows through the mouthpiece. This allows the mouthpiece to be held securely between the lips and whenever the sidewalls are compressed by the teeth, fluid flows from the container, through the tubing and into the mouth of the bicyclist.
