Abstract: A gas anchor is attached to the lower end of a downhole pump located downhole in a borehole so that fluid must flow from the lower borehole, into the gas anchor, to the suction of the pump, and to the surface of the ground. The gas anchor has a metal rod located within an outer housing. An annulus is formed between the housing interior and the outer surface of the rod. Both the housing and rod are made of a special alloy. The housing has a multiplicity of ports formed therein. Formation fluid located in the bottom of the borehole flows through the ports, into the housing, along the annulus between the housing and the rod, and into the pump intake. This action subjects the formation fluid to treatment prior to the fluid entering the pump suction.
Abstract: A filter device for removing contaminants from liquid flowing therethrough comprising a vessel having an inlet for providing a contaminated liquid flow into the interior thereof and an outlet through which filtered liquid can exit the vessel. A screen means contained within the vessel supports a filter media thereon. A pump has a suction and discharge located within the vessel and respective to the screen whereby the filter media can be fluidized and thereby cleaned without removing the media from the vessel. The scrubbing action transfers the contaminants from the filter media into the scrub water and thereby enables the contaminants to be removed from the vessel by discharging the scrub water therefrom.
Abstract: A rotating blowout preventor is comprised of a rotating head assembly which is removably received at the upper end of a main housing. The rotating parts of the head assembly are held fastened together by the provision of a unique locking plate arrangement. An internal bearing chamber is formed within the head assembly and is protected from contamination by an unobvious arrangement of the coacting parts which form the rotating head. The head assembly can rapidly be disassembled without the use of special tools, thereby making field repair of the apparatus possible. The main housing has a replaceable washpipe and seat that likewise is easily field replaceable.
Abstract: A gas equalizer device for use in conjunction with a reciprocatory pump located downhole in a wellbore. The device of the present invention avoids a condition commonly known in the pumpjack art as "fluid pounding", which is brought about when compressible gases accumulate in the working chamber of the downhole pump. The gas equalizer device of this invention includes a pushrod having a marginal end reciprocatingly enclosed in a slidable manner within a housing which is mounted to the usual traveling valve cage of the downhole pump. The pushrod is alternately moved from an extended into a retracted position each upstroke and downstroke of the pump. The free terminal end of the pushrod is arranged to engage the ball check valve of the traveling valve assembly as the pump commences the downstroke. This unseats the ball, thereby allowing any accumulated gases to escape from the variable pump chamber.
Abstract: A unitary digging tooth is removably mounted to an excavating machine. The tooth has a cutting face formed at a working end which is opposed to a trailing end thereof. An upper end of the tooth is removably attached to the excavating machine. A plurality of discrete teeth are made integral with and extend forward of the cutting edge. The upper marginal end of the tooth is relatively flat, and the lower marginal end of the tooth is a segment of a cone, and therefore curves when viewed in lateral cross-section. The individual teeth are spaced apart, and arranged parallel to one another, and form part of a digging face at the forward end of the tooth. The tooth is oriented in a vertical plane.

Abstract: A gun mount comprises two spaced adjustable gun racks, each gun rack has a square tubular main body to which there is adjustably attached one or a plurality of upwardly opening cradles within which a gun can be supported. Each main body includes opposed attachement means by which it is removably supported from the rear window of a vehicle. One of the attachment means has a marginal end telescopingly received within the main body, and a blade is formed at the other end thereof. The other end of the main body is provided with an opposed blade. Each of the blades are received between the glass and the gasket of a vehicle window. The blades can be turned laterally so that a pair of the racks can be incorporated into a low profile package. The gun rack can be used in conjunction with a vehicle window, or alternatively, can be mounted directly to any wall surface.
Abstract: A proximity hitch can be fitted to a towed vehicle, as for example a trailer, so that the trailer can be towed by a towing vehicle. The hitch comprises opposed main frame members which terminate in a flat mounted plate. A guide member is pivotally attached to the mounted plate and reciprocatingly receives a tongue therethrough. The tongue has a socket formed at one end thereof and a cam follower at the other end thereof. Opposed cam plates have confronting cam surfaces formed thereon with there being a notch formed between the cam surfaces. The cam follower is received within the cam notch when the proximity hitch is retracted. The cam follower rides against the cam surface as the socket is moved over a wide area of movement. The tongue and guide member are latched into a retracted position when the trailer is to be towed and unlatched when it is necessary to connect the trailer to the towing vehicle.
Abstract: A pump housing is substituted for the food container of a blender. The blender blades act as a pump impeller and cause liquid to flow from a housing inlet, through the housing, and through a housing outlet. The pump housing therefore modifies a blender into a portable, multipurpose pump apparatus that moves liquid from one to another location.
Abstract: A downhole hydraulically actuated pump assembly has an engine end and a pump end. A traveling valve assembly is included in both the engine end and the pump end. A discharge guide assembly is interposed between the engine and the pump ends, and thereby enables the connecting rod between the engine and pump ends to be greatly increased in length for a specific size. The traveling valve of the pump end includes a lost motion coupling by which the valve is shifted each stroke of the engine. A formation fluid passageway extends from the lower end of the pump, directly through a rod extension, and into the traveling valve. Accordingly, this novel combination and improvements provide a downhole pump assembly having the maximum diameter engine and pump piston.
Abstract: A digging machine for planing a road. The machine has a massive main frame supported by large endless tracks. An elongated digging member has spaced shafts located at the opposed ends thereof. One of the shafts pivotally supports the digging member from the rear end of the main frame, while the other shaft rotatably supports a digging head. The digging head is rotated by spaced, endless chains that are driven by sprockets located on the pivot shaft and thereby rotates sprockets located on the other shaft. Cutter plates are supported by the spaced chains and form an endless cutter member. Opposed drums are mounted on opposed marginal ends of the driven shaft and are rotated by the driven sprockets. The drum surface has flights formed thereon. Digging teeth are mounted on the outer periphery of the flights and cutter plates. The digging head can be made as wide as the vehicle and thereby excavates adjacent to a vertical wall.
Abstract: A disposable shoe heel protector device is removably affixed to the back of a shoe in an area to cover and protect the rearward part of the shoe that makes sliding contact with the floorboard of an automobile while driving. The protector is made in an oblated configuration and therefore has a long and a short dimension. The protector comprises a flexible main support in the form of an eliptical cutout from a sheet of thin flexible plastic material. The support has an inside surface opposed to an outside surface. Adhesive material coats the inside surface at the opposed marginal ends of the support. A cushion in the form of a thin piece of foam material is attached to the medial inside surface of the support and extends from the adhesive on one side to the adhesive on the opposed side, thereby leaving the centrally located foam material which bears against the shoe surface with the adhesive being located at the opposed ends of the support.
Abstract: A member, such as a sheet of paper or plastic, is coated with phosphorescence glow on the dark material and then layered or coated with photographic emulsion so that an image can be produced on the surface of the member by a photographic process, and thereafter, an image can be produced on the surface by illumination means. In another form of the invention, a sheet of paper or plastic has luminescent material incorporated therein to cause one side of the sheet of material to glow in the dark. The sheet is assembled onto a clipboard and thereby provides means by which a written message can easily be formed in the dark.
Abstract: A downhole pump of the jet type is placed below the fluid level in a wellbore and is used to produce fluid from the wellbore by employment of a power fluid source located above the surface of the ground. The power fluid flows downhole to the pump and through the jet pump assembly to cause a pumping action. The jet pump includes a suction chamber formed about a nozzle assembly. The nozzle assembly is spaced from a venturi throat. The venturi throat diverges in a direction away from the nozzle. The nozzle is located close to the bottom of the pump adjacent the formation fluid inlet at a position which precludes contamination thereof with debris which may otherwise fall downhole into the nozzle. The power fluid exits from the nozzle and enters the inlet of the venturi, causing produced fluid to be pulled into the throat entrance and mixed with the power fluid.
Abstract: An excavating machine has a plurality of tooth receiving support blocks mounted for movement thereon to enable an excavating operation to be carried out when digging teeth are mounted to the blocks. Each support block has a cylindrical bore for receiving the cylindrical shank of a prior art rotatable type bit. The present improvements provide the combination of said support block with a non-rotatable dirt type excavating tooth. The tooth includes a cylindrical shank at one end thereof made complementary respective to the block bore so that the shank can be telescopingly received in a captured manner within the bore of the support block, thereby mounting the excavating tooth to a block. A stop means is formed on said block for engaging an abutment means of the tooth and prevents axial rotation of the tooth when the shank is received within the bore.
Abstract: A rotating diamond bit has a cutting face that includes a plurality of cutters and nozzles affixed thereto in spaced relationship respective to one another. A passageway extends through the bit body for flow of fluid through the bit connection to each of the nozzles. Each nozzle has an outlet orifice arranged to direct a lateral flow therefrom which impinges on the cutting face of each of the diamond compacts. The nozzles and compacts are arranged in groups, with there being a plurality of cutters and at least one nozzle in each group. The lateral flow from the nozzles diverges in a fan-like pattern to impinge directly onto the cutting face of each of the plurality of cutters.
Abstract: Oil well drilling apparatus for drilling deep boreholes. The apparatus includes a high frequency, high voltage, AC generator at the surface of the ground which is connected to an electromagnetic hammer drill bit located at the bottom of the borehole. Electric current is conducted along a special drill string to the electromagnetic hammer drill located at the bottom of the hole. The drill string is a co-axial electrically conductive drill pipe which forms spaced annular current flow paths to the downhole electromagnetic hammer drill, while at the same time, drilling fluid flows along an axial flow path to the vibrating bit located at the bottom of the borehole. A special directional drill collar is positioned immediately above the electromagnetic hammer drill for controlling hole deviation.
Abstract: A crude oil sampling system that obtains and stores a representative sample of crude oil as the oil flows from a stock tank into a sales line. As crude oil flows from the storage tank during a finite period of time, a much smaller flow is diverted to a closed sample vessel. Accordingly, small sequential samples of the crude flowing from the stock tank is removed so that a true sample is protected within the closed vessel. Hence, the crude contained downstream of the stock tank changes in composition over a period of time while the crude contained within the sample vessel remains unchanged. When it is desired to evaluate the quality of the sample contained within the closed vessel, a circulation pump is energized and the contents of the sample vessel is thoroughly mixed. A hydrometer, including a thermometer associated therewith, is placed within a special gravity sample chamber which heretofore has been isolated from the sample vessel.
Abstract: Fuel for an internal combustion engine is treated by flowing the fuel into intimate contact with a crystalline metal alloy that includes copper, zinc, nickel, lead, tin, iron, antimony sulfur, and manganese all in a specific range of percentage composition. The fuel can be any hydrocarbon including diesel, regular gasoline, low lead gasoline, aviation fuel, propane and butane. The crystalline metal is essentially non-sacrificial and will last hundreds of thousands of miles under ordinary conditions of usage. The crystalline metal alloy is contained within a housing through which fuel flows, whereby the fuel is placed in intimate contact with the surface area of the crystalline metal alloy, causing significant reduced pollution and increased mileage.
Abstract: A combination digging tooth and holder therefor for use on excavating machines. Each holder has provisions by which it can be attached to an endless chain of a trencher or to a bucket lip. The forward part of the holder has an outwardly opening pocket formed therein of a particular configuration which receives part of the digging tooth in close tolerance relationship therewithin such that a forward marginal part of the tooth extends forwardly from the holder for engaging and digging in the earth. Each opposed marginal end of each of the teeth has identical cutting edges formed thereon so that a tooth can be reversed as well as being substituted one for the other. The teeth cooperate with the holder pocket in an unusual manner.
Abstract: A manually operated tool for aligning a flange to one end of a pipe so that the flange and pipe can be properly oriented in aligned relationship respective to one another and welded together. The tool is comprised of two spaced, rotatable mandrels which can be moved axially independently to one another within a cylindrical body. A first and second set of radial blades extend through the main body and are moved radially in response to axial movement of the spaced mandrels. The outer edge portion of one set of blades engages the internal surface of the pipe, while the outer edge portion of the other set of blades engage the inner surface of the flange. This permits the flange to be axially aligned and properly oriented respective to and independently of the pipe so that the pipe and flange can subsequently be tack welded, the tool removed from the interior of the flange and pipe, and the weld completed to thereby provide a unique method of attaching a flange to a pipe end.
