Abstract: A gun mount includes two spaced adjustable gun racks, and each of the gun racks are arranged to be held in position by the frame of a rear window of a pickup truck, for example, so that a plurality of guns can be supported at spaced intervals thereon and safely transported in a pick-up truck. The pair of racks each include an adjustable spreader bar that terminate in blades at opposed ends thereof, with the blades terminating in attached relationship respective to the frame of a vehicle window. A cradle support assembly has opposed ends which also attach to the blade members and are spaced from the spreader bar to thereby provide an unusual adjustable rack assembly that resist lateral loads in an unexpected manner. Any number of cradles are attached to the cradle support assembly and provides the means by which fire arms, fishing tackle, and other such paraphernalia can be supported and stored behind the driver of a pickup truck.
Abstract: A full opening sleeve valve device with check valve for controlling fluid flow through a line pipe or the like. The valve device has a housing, and a flow passageway extends through the housing and terminates at opposed ends thereof. The opposed ends of the housing passageway can be connected to the confronting ends of a pipe line. A bore extends through the housing and a flow control sleeve is rotatably received within the bore and sealingly engaging the peripheral wall surface of the bore. The sleeve has opposed ports that can be selectively rotated into registry with the flow passageways to align the ports with the passageway whereupon unrestricted flow can occur through the valve device. The check valve is a movable wall section of the sleeve and forms a closure member for a sleeve port and cooperates with the bore to form a check valve.
Abstract: A vehicle has a rear bumper and a spare tire carrier. A retracting mechanism is actuated by a rotatable shaft which extends toward and is spaced from the rear bumper. An aperture through the rear bumper enables a crank to be inserted therethrough and into engagement with the rotatable shaft. A drive device is inserted through the bumper and into the shaft where it is attached in lieu of the previous crank. A marginal end of the drive device extends through the bumper and is a polygon in cross-section configuration. A rotatable housing is removably locked about the polygon so that the polygon is inaccessible and therefore cannot be rotated when the rotatable housing is engaged by a rotatable means. When the housing is removed, the polygon is engaged by a crank and rotated, thereby rotating the rotatable shaft whereupon the spare tire is extended from the tire carrier.
Abstract: A swivel apparatus of the type having a main body for supporting a rotatable member, wherein the member supports a load therefrom and is journaled to the main body by a thrust bearing assembly that transfers the load from the rotatable member into the main body. The speed of rotation of the thrust bearing assembly is reduced to a value which is less than the speed of rotation of the rotatable member. This is achieved by rotatably driving a gear means by the rotatable member; and, arranging a first and a second thrust bearing and a middle race member adjacent to one another with the middle race member separating the first and second thrust bearings from one another. This enables the load carried by the rotatable member to be transferred into the first thrust bearing, into the middle race member, into the second thrust bearing, and into the main body.
Abstract: An ultrasonic wound cleaning device having an annular transducer, an axial bore extends through the annular transducer through which liquid admixed with modifying agents can flow towards a surface to be treated. A handle, a cleaning head, and a collecting cone are arranged respectively to the transducer so that cleaning liquid can flow through the axial bore, into the collecting cone, through the cleaning applicator head, where the liquid containing ultrasonic energy is brought into intimate contact with the wound and causes unwanted matter to be dislodged and washed from the wound and suspended in the liquid, and the loosened matter subsequently is flushed out of and away from the wound. The invention further comprehends preparation of human bone whereby joint replacement with a prosthesis can be carried out in a more sophisticated manner than has heretofore been possible.
Abstract: A disconnect apparatus by which a cryogenic inductor can be both thermally and electrically isolated from a workload and a generator. The disconnect apparatus includes an input disconnect and an output disconnect. The input and output disconnects, when opened, thermally and electrically isolate the inductor, thereby enabling the inductor to more efficiently be cryogenically cooled. This represents a great savings in cryogenic coolant. The input and output disconnects can be simultaneously or sequentially actuated into the connected and disconnected configuration. Provision is made by which a thermal barrier can be interposed between the switch contacts of the input disconnect leading to the inductor and, the output disconnect can be evacuated to reduce heat transfer respective to the load.
Abstract: A dispenser for sequentially dispensing one sheet at a time from a stack of sheets. A housing encloses a drive and a lift roller, and each roller has a longitudinal axis arranged in parallel aligned relationship respective to one another and spaced from the one another an amount to bring the outer peripheral surfaces thereof into rolling contact with one another. A holding post is aligned in parallel relationship with respect to the rollers and is spaced therefrom for enabling a stack of sheets to be held against the holding post and lift roller, with one outermost sheet having a marginal edge portion thereof urged against the lift roller and the opposed marginal edge portion thereof is urged against the holding post. The outer peripheral surface of the drive roller is made of high friction material while the lift roller has a relatively small segment of its outer peripheral surface made of high friction material and the remainder of the peripheral surface made of low friction material.
Abstract: An adjusting tool by which the adjusting ring of a clutch assembly can be rotated respective to the clutch cover. The tool is attached to the clutch cover at the access hole. Part of the tool engages the circumferentially extending spaced lugs formed near the outer periphery of the adjusting ring. The tool has gear teeth of a configuration to mesh with the spaced lugs on the ring and to drivingly engage and rotate the ring when the shaft is rotated about the longitudinal axis thereof. A mounting fixture is removably attached the cover access hole with the drive gear device extending into the access hole and into engagement with the lugs of the ring so that the wrench engaging means can be engaged with a suitable wrench and the ring rotated respective to the housing to thereby adjust the spring tension on the clutch assembly.
Abstract: A valve device for use in a gas flow system which has a gas meter connected to a supply line. The valve device is especially made to break the threads of a riser pipe nipple that is screwed into the top outlet end. The valve device has an annular shoulder at the inlet and outlet ends and a passageway extends through the valve device and through the shoulders. A length of the outlet end of the passageway has internal threads at the outlet end that terminate at the shoulder. A smooth cylindrical marginal length of the inlet length of the passageway is spaced from a threaded portion of its length located intermediate the smooth part of the passageway and the valve element. The smooth cylindrical length has an inside diameter slightly greater than the outside diameter of the supply line so that a lateral load placed on the supply line is transferred into the valve device through the smooth part of the passageway and avoids breaking the supply line threads.
Abstract: A pipe tapering device adapted to receive the outer peripheral marginal end of a tubing or pipe therewithin and to grind a circumferentially extending taper on a marginal end of a pipe. The apparatus is particularly suited for forming a taper on the outer surface of the marginal end of fiberglass or plastic pipe. The apparatus is adjustable and can be employed to taper the ends of a number of different size pipe diameters. The apparatus is hand held and can be powered by an ordinary drill motor.
Abstract: A generally spherical tornado shelter for safely housing and protecting people and things underground in the form of a truncated globe that is formed from a curved sidewall and terminates in a floor at the lower end thereof. A seat member is attached to the sidewall and to the floor and thereby forms a structural member that regidifies the globe. A generally rectangular entrance is formed in spaced relation to the central axis and provides a doorway into the interior of the structure. A plurality of steps lead from the entrance down to the floor and enables people to conveniently walk through the entrance, down the steps, into and back up from the shelter.
Abstract: A portable system for reworking the inside diameter of heavy oil field casing, and especially casing that has irregularities on the inner surface thereof that render the casing unsuitable for use in deep wells. A cutting head assembly is rotated as it is forced into the interior of a joint of casing. The cutting head assembly includes a mandrel which turns a special cutting device having a plurality of cutters of engaging and cutting the inner wall of the pipe as the entire cutterhead is forced to travel through the pipe. Alignment members attached to the mandrel on either side of the cutting device maintain the longitudinal axis of the cutters in proper alignment to produce the desired new pipe inside diameter. After the first half of the pipe is sized or trued, the joint of casing is reversed and the other half is cut to the same new desired inside diameter.
Abstract: Rotatable, multiple lens eye glasses having a frame by which a lens body is supported and by which the eye glasses are adapted to be worn by a person. The frame includes a circumferentially extending U-shaped channel member which rotatably receives a lens body therewithin. Means on said lens body for imparting rotation thereto. Said lens body having a plurality of magnifying lenses formed thereon, whereby rotation of the lens body brings a selected power lens into alignment with the eyes.
Abstract: Oil well drilling apparatus for drilling deep boreholes. The apparatus includes a high frequency, high voltage, AC generator at the surface of the ground which is connected to an electromagnetic hammer drill bit located at the bottom of the borehole. Electric current is conducted along a special drill string to the electromagnetic hammer drill located at the bottom of the hole. The drill string is a co-axial electrically conductive drill pipe which forms spaced annular current flow paths to the downhole electromagnetic hammer drill, while at the same time, drilling fluid flows along an axial flow path to the vibrating bit located at the bottom of the borehole. A special directional drill collar is positioned immediately above the electromagnetic hammer drill for controlling hole deviation.
Abstract: A remote actuator and interlock for a trailer hitch of the type having a main body, a ball receiving socket at one end of the main body with the other end of the main body being attachable to the end of a trailer. A pivotal member is hinged at the ball receiving socket end of the hitch. The main body and the pivotal member form hinged sections and the socket is formed jointly in the two hinged sections. A collar is reciprocatingly received about the main body and positioned to releasably receive the free marginal end of the pivotal member therein to thereby releasably latch the hinged sections together so that a ball can be captured therewithin. A remote actuator with interlock is mounted to the hitch apparatus by which the hinged sections are forced together and thereafter the collar is moved into the latched position over the hinged sections. The remote actuator includes a control lever pivotally mounted for movement respective to said main body.
Abstract: A pressure compensating flow control device for conserving water usage by controlling the water flow rate from faucets located in homes and commercial properties. The device is an inline flow control apparatus which controls the flow of water going to sinks, showers, and lavatories in a manner to conserve water usage and is therefore especially energy efficient when used to control the flow of heated water. The control device is pressure compensating in a manner which tends to provide a constant volumetric flow rate as the upstream pressure fluctuates, and as the faucet is progressively opened. The control device includes a housing within which two mutually reciprocating parts are biased apart by a spring means so that as the upstream pressure increases, the two parts move towards one another, thereby compressing the spring means therebetween, and increasing the friction to flow therethrough.
Abstract: Maximum rate of drill bit penetration in high speed coring is achieved by precise control of bit weight and bit speed. The automatic drilling system of this invention makes it possible to quickly reach and maintain this optimum combination or "sweet-point" each time the core bit is started. The required speed and weight is input into the system by the operator. A controller electronically senses the bit weight and provides instantaneous feedback to a hydraulically driven drawworks which is capable of maintaining a precise weight on the bit throughout varying penetration modes. The drilling system uses a combination of equipment that includes a hydraulic system for the control of the drawworks; a solid-state strain gauge load cell apparatus built into the swivel assembly for continuously weighing the drill string; an electronic load control circuitry for determining the bit weight, drill string weight, and for maintaining the bit weight control; and, a top drive system for high speed rotation of the string.
