Abstract: A synthesis of 5,12-dihydroxy-1,3,4-trihydro-2,6,11-tetracenetrione and its derivatives from leucoquinizarin or a derivative of leucoquinizarin. The tetracenetriones are well-known intermediates in the synthesis of compounds related to doxorubicin.
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed which will rapidly provide a uniform layer of photopolymerizable material for a printing plate. A regulated flow of liquid photopolymerizable resin is supplied from an external reservoir into a manifold which is approximately C-shaped in cross-section and has one at least partially open side face. A gate is disposed before the open side face of the manifold and this gate is vertically adjustable so that together the gate and open side face define an orifice slot or passageway from which a uniform curtain of the resin may flow onto a platemaking surface. The manifold member has a downward projecting wedge shaped lip which acts as a doctor blade on the liquid resin layer deposited as the manifold is moved across the plate-making surface.
Abstract: A method for decreasing urinary calcium content which comprises orally administering to a person whose urine contains insoluble calcium containing precipitates or has a propensity for forming calcium containing precipitates, an effective amount of an agent selected from water-soluble vinylbenzenesulfonic acid polymers and the nontoxic pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed which will rapidly provide uniform layers of two liquid photopolymerizable materials for a capped (i.e., two layer) printing plate. The apparatus comprises a dual manifold which spans the plate-forming area of a surface and which is moved in tandem transversely in order to provide two overlapping layers of liquid photopolymerizable materials.
Abstract: An improved lacrosse head having grooves along the outer surface of the scoop-shaped end adapted to protect the lacings of a net structure from abrasive contact. The grooves will be defined by (1) grooved depressions in the outer surface of the scoop-shaped end, or (2) pairs of raised ridges on the outer surface of the scoop-shaped end. The grooves will extend from the openings, through which the net structure is laced, to the edge of the frame to which the net is attached.
Abstract: Disclosed are epoxy-azidoformate compounds of the formula ##STR1## where R is a polyvalent organic radical, R' is a hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, and n and m are integers from 1 to 100. Also disclosed is the use of said epoxy-azidoformate compounds in modifying polymers, cross-linking polymers, and adhering polymers to certain substrates, e.g., glass and other polymers.
Abstract: It has been discovered that when co-nitrating a mixture of trimethylolethane and diethylene glycol, a storage stable spent acid can be obtained if during the co-nitration an excess of from about 60 to about 100% by weight of nitric acid over that stoichiometrically required is employed.
Abstract: It has been found that fungal diseases can be effectively treated systemically by oral administration of tolciclate or tolnaftate. The drugs will generally be administered in divided daily doses in the form of tablets, capsules, syrups or suspensions.
Abstract: Multilayer printing plates having layers with differing moduli are made by exposing through a photographic negative a plurality of liquid layers of different photopolymerizable compositions.
Abstract: It has been found that indoprofen can be used in increased safety at its effective anti-inflammatory dose in humans and that the activity of indoprofen is greatly prolonged by microencapsulating microparticles of indoprofen in a solid protective coating of a cellulose ether such as ethylcellulose.
Abstract: A radiation curable printing medium suitable for screen printing on glass, metal and ceramics which is to be cured and subsequently fired, comprising(a) 4 to 25% by weight of a polymerizable, liquid prepolymer containing at least about two ethylenically unsaturated end groups;(b) 4 to 15% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomer containing a polar functional group;(c) 60 to 90% by weight of a ceramic frit; and(d) 0.02 to 2% by weight of a polymerization inhibitor.
Abstract: Stable print-out dye systems are provided for photopolymerizable compositions, finding particular use as photoresists. The dye compositions comprise a triarylmethane leuco dye in combination with a high-boiling, relatively thermally-insensitive polyhalo alicyclic compound having at least five bromines. The print-out dye system is incorporated with an addition polymerizable composition, a light-sensitive initiator, and minor amounts of other additives.
Abstract: It has been found that saturated, halogen-containing polymers can be cross-linked to yield stable vulcanizates using 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole in the presence of certain basic materials in normal vulcanization procedures.
Abstract: Novel polymers are disclosed which are based on an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing at least one azide group and another ethylenically unsaturated silane monomer. These materials are useful as coupling agents for thermoformable polymers such as polyolefins and inorganic fillers. Optionally the polymers can contain other ethylenically unsaturated monomers as spacers or extenders for the more expensive azide or silane monomers.
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for making photographic images. The process involves the photooxidation of a film of a photosensitive composition containing certain essential components to form peroxides in the exposed areas of the film, and decomposition of the peroxides to form a crosslinked polymer in the exposed areas. Essential to the composition are an ethylenically unsaturated component capable of forming a crosslinked polymer, and an oxidizable component containing allylic hydrogens.
Abstract: The invention concerns photosensitive compositions. The composition contains certain essential components which form peroxides when exposed to light. Essential to the composition are an ethylenically unsaturated component capable of forming a high polymer by addition polymerization or crosslinking, an oxidizable component containing allylic hydrogens, and a photooxygenation sensitizer.
Abstract: Photoresist compositions with improved adhesion properties are provided for use in making printed circuit boards, lithographic plates, relief image plates or cylinders and for other applications in the graphic arts. The subject invention also provides for methods and photoresist elements utilizing the photoresist compositions. The photoresist compositions include, in addition to a photopolymerizable compound, a photo initiator, a polymeric binder, and other optional additives and N-substituted benzotriazoles which serve as improved adhesion promoters.
Abstract: It has been discovered that pastes of particulate, thermoplastic, poly(vinyl acetate) type polymers dispersed in a soft resinous phase can be prepared which heat-set by fusion of the thermoplastic binder. When pigmented or otherwise colored, these formulations have utility as printing inks. When uncolored, they can be used as clear overprint coatings. In addition, these fusible pastes have utility as specialty coatings in adhesives and can be fabricated into self-supporting shapes.
