Abstract: The present invention is an optical reader configured to adaptively digitize a set of image data in a manner that depends of characteristics of the image data. According to the invention, an optical reader subjects a set of image data to preliminary processing for developing peak characterizing data. From the peak characterizing data, the optical reader determines at least one digitization parameter and utilizes the at least one digitization parameter in the digitization of the image data.
Abstract: A connector for the end of a segment of coaxial cable is provided wherein the compression connector includes a clamp that is engageable to the outer conductor of the segment of coaxial cable and a collet that can seize the center conductor of the cable, wherein the engagement of the outer conductor and the seizure of the center conductor can occur as separate steps and the center conductor can be prevented from being seized until after the outer conductor has been engaged.
Abstract: A computer assembly having a host computer and a detachably attached computer expansion module. The computer expansion module includes a 2D imaging module, and may include short range imaging optics. In a “picture taking” mode actuated by input into the host computer, the expansion module captures an image, and without launching a decoding algorithm, sends the captured image to the host computer which displays the image on an integrated display of the host computer. In a “decode” mode actuated by input to the host computer, the expansion module captures an image, executes a decoding algorithm, and sends a decoded out message to the host computer, which displays the decoded out message on an integrated display of the host computer.

Abstract: A method and apparatus can detect errors within an incorrect media access control address and can prevent an Ethernet device from using the incorrect media access control address while it is fully operating. The method and apparatus can also correct some types of errors within the media access control address so that the Ethernet device may operate using a correct media access control address.
Abstract: The invention is a hand held computer device having a housing including a top or upper surface, a lower surface and finger saddle ridge protruding downwardly from the lower surface. The finger saddle ridge has two finger receiving surfaces and is sized to accommodate a pair of human fingers such that a first finger contacts the front surface of the finger saddle and a second finger contacts the rear surface of the finger saddle. When an operator's fingers straddle the finger saddle ridge, the hand held computer device pivots about a pivot point defined between the fingers. The device can thus be readily maneuvered into a downward pivoting position, highly useful for decoding bar codes, and an upward pivoting position, highly useful for display viewing and applications involving display viewing such as web browsing and data input.

Abstract: A turbine airfoil includes a span wise extending cavity formed from a ceramic mold and a slot extending from the cooling air cavity to a trailing edge being formed by a refractory metal core. The refractory metal core facilitates the reduction in the size of the slot and also in the reduction in the size of pedestals which pass transversely through the slot to interconnect the pressure side to the suction side of the airfoil. The blade has a cutback feature to expose a back surface on the inner side of the suction side wall with dimples being formed on the back surface so as to enhance heat transfer characteristics thereof. Provision is made for fabricating the dimples by way of a photo etching process.
Abstract: A method for decoding a decodable symbol using an optical reader having a 2D image sensor that is configured to operate in a partial frame capture operating mode. In a partial frame operating mode, the reader clocks out and captures at least one partial frame of image data having image data corresponding to less than all of the pixels of an image sensor pixel array. In one embodiment, the reader operating in a partial frame operating mode captures image data corresponding to a linear pattern of pixels of the image sensor, reads the image data, and attempts to decode for a decodable bar code symbol which may be represented in the image data.

Abstract: There is described a bar code reading device capable of operating in a first image capture operating mode and a second image capture operating mode. The bar code reading device has a faster frame rate when operating in the first image capture operating mode than when operating in the second image capture operating mode.
