  • Patent number: 5136514
Abstract: A tariff arrangement which is preferably intended for an electricity meter comprises a microprocessor, a data memory and a bidirectional interface for transfer of data with a read-out device. For the duration of a data transfer operation a timing member is activated and by way of a logic circuit inhibits a predetermined memory region to prevent data from being written thereto. The data which are stored in the memory region, for charging purposes, are therefore protected from unintentional alterations during the data transfer operation, even if the software should have corresponding defects. The function of the timing member and the logic circuit can be checked in a simple manner.

  • Patent number: 5133720
Abstract: A combined surgical drill guide and retractor is useful for treating fractures in the craniomaxillofacial region. The device comprises an L-shaped member having a first short leg and a second long leg, a major retractor extending away from the first leg in a first direction and a minor retractor extending away from the first leg in an opposite direction, an outer sleeve mounted on the first leg, an inner sleeve telescoped within the bore of the outer sleeve, and a lever hingedly mounted on the second leg of the L-shaped member for carrying out a scissoring movement in cooperation with the second leg. The major retractor and the minor retractor cooperate so that when they are inserted into an incision, they will retract the sides of the incision. The major retractor has an arcuate C-like shape so that it can extend around and behind a bone and thus act as a protective stop to prevent a drill bit from penetrating beyond the bone being drilled.

  • Patent number: 5130776
Abstract: An ultraviolet-light sensitive photodiode device comprises a first semiconductor photodiode for producing a first current when illuminated by light and a second semiconductor photodiode for producing a second current when illuminated by light. The first and second photodiodes are electrically connected to produce a signal proportional to the difference between the first and second currents. The first and second photodiodes are substantially equal in sensitivity to visible and infrared light, while the first photodiode is more sensitive to ultraviolet light than the second photodiode. Thus, the photosensitive device resulting from connecting the two photodiodes has a spectrally narrow sensitivity to ultraviolet light.

  • Patent number: 5128537
Abstract: A device for optically measuring a pressure difference in a medium by means of a Fabry-Perot interferometer, comprises a transparent plate and a diaphragm block connected to the transparent plate, the diaphragm block comprising a substrate, a measuring diaphragm formed along the inner surface of the substrate, and a spacer separating the inner surface of the transparent plate and the inner surface of the substrate. A first planar mirror is disposed on the inner surface of the plate and a second planar mirror is disposed on the inner surface of the measuring diaphragm so that they constitute the Fabry-Perot interferometer. The measuring diaphragm is shiftable by a distance (H) in response to a pressure difference (.delta.p) exerted on inner and outer surfaces of the measuring diaphragm whereby the optical length (L) of the Fabry-Perot interferometer changes as a function of the pressure difference (.delta.p).

  • Patent number: 5125753
Abstract: A heat circuit comprises an initial conduit containing a flow medium and a return conduit. A choke element located in a conduit such as the initial conduit of a heat circuit serves to control the flow of the flow medium. The choke element has several active positions in which openings having differently sized cross-sections are inserted into the path of flow. The choke element is moved by a drive so that a particular position of the choke is active. A differential pressure sensor measures the presure difference before and after the choke element. A computer resposive to the differential pressure sensor controls the drive so that a particular cross-section of the choke element takes effect and the flow of the medium is measured with sufficient precision over a wide measuring range. The inventive arrangement may also include a temperature sensor for measuring the temperature difference between the initial and return conduits.

  • Patent number: 5116037
Abstract: An apparatus for the fault-free receiving and issue of sheets has guide rollers which are arranged on a carriage and which engage into belts to alter the geometry of the belts when the carriage is displaced on a rail over a stack by means of a drive. In the receiving or issue operation the sheet to be stacked or a top sheet to be issued rolls, without sliding, around one of the outer guide rollers, on the stack. Disposed between the outer guide rollers on a roller shaft are rotatable suction rollers whose suction cap sucks up the top sheet by means of reduced pressure at the beginnning of an issue cycle. A control arrangement is adapted to trigger off apparatus receiving and issue cycles and establishes predetermined positions of the carriage on the rail.

  • Patent number: 5109767
Abstract: A device for embossing a set of motifs having a predetermined motif interval onto a length of film utilizes a rotating embossing cylinder which is provided with a recess for the attachment of an embossing matrix. The embossing matrix has a usable length which is less than the entire circumference of the embossing cylinder but more than 50% of the circumference of the embossing cylinder. A rotating counterpressure cylinder is positioned adjacent the embossing cylinder, such that the film advances between the counterpressure cylinder and the embossing cylinder for embossing said motifs from said embossing matrix onto the film and for defining a free phase during each rotation of the embossing cylinder when the recess is positioned adjacent the film. The device also comprises movement means for providing an additional relative movement between the length of film and the embossing matrix during each free phase of the embossing cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5106125
Abstract: A credit document with improved protection against forgery comprises a film which is attached to a local portion of a surface of the credit document. The film includes at least one security mark. The security mark comprises a micro-relief structure for optically diffracting incident light. A protection profile in the form of a macro-relief structure is also embossed into the surface of the credit document. The security mark and the protection profile overlap in part. The relief lines of the protection profile macrostructure are bent away from the plane of the surface of the credit document sufficiently to provide visible gloss effects due to the reflection of incident light. When this arrangement is utilized one or more visible breaks in the security mark occur when the security mark is removed from the credit document. In addition, the security mark is so deformed by the protection profile, that the deformation is easily visible if the security mark is attached to a second (i.e. a forged) credit document.
