Abstract: Olefin oxide is produced by reacting chlorine, obtained from an electrolysis cell, with a tertiary alkanol and an aqueous solution, containing sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride, obtained from the cathode of an electrolysis cell, to produce a tertiary alkyl hypochlorite. The hypochlorite is then reacted in a chlorohydrin reactor with an olefinically unsaturated compound and water, essentially free of chloride ions, to produce the corresponding chlorohydrin. The chlorohydrin is recovered and saponified with cell liquor, containing sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride, obtained from the cathode compartment of the cell to produce the olefin oxide.
Abstract: Phenols are produced from .alpha.-aralkyl peroxides, preferably alkyl- .alpha. -phenalkyl peroxides or diphenalkyl peroxides, by heating the peroxide in the presence of an acid catalyst and continuously separating volatile reaction products other than the phenol; i.e., a carbonyl compound and alcohol if formed, from the reaction mixture, preferably by bubbling a stripping gas therethrough. Phenol may be produced from an alkyl benzene by reacting the alkyl benzene with t-butyl hydroperoxide to produce a t-butyl- .alpha. -phenalkyl peroxide which is then decomposed in the presence of an acid catalyst. The reaction co-products include t-butanol and a carbonyl compound corresponding to the alkyl group.
Abstract: There is disclosed an injector for a fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine and comprising a nozzle body formed with a compartment within which there is positioned a nozzle needle biased towards a closed position by a spring. A first chamber is formed between the valve seat and one end of a guide for the nozzle needle and a second chamber is formed at the other end of said guide, the arrangements being such that fuel under pressure is supplied to both said chambers simultaneously and that the nozzle needle is seated until the pressure in said second chamber is relieved by opening of a trigger valve under increasing fuel supply pressure to cause the nozzle needle to move to open the injection valve for the supply of fuel to the engine.

Abstract: A compression bandage includes a bandage strip with an absorbent layer on one side. A pressure piece of slightly deformable and slightly absorbent molded material is attached to the other side of the strip opposite the absorbent layer. When the bandage is applied and the strip wound around the injured part, the pressure pad exerts pressure through the strip and absorbent layer onto the wound, and cannot slip from the correct position.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process and apparatus for recovering ethane and heavier hydrocarbons from natural gas by heating the natural gas stream prior to the expansion and introduction thereof into a demethanizer operating under cryogenic conditions. Ethane and the heavier hydrocarbons are recovered from the demethanizer as well as a residual gaseous methane stream which is compressed to a pipeline receiving pressure by the work of expansion without requiring a booster compressor.

Abstract: An ammonium carbonate leach solution containing dissolved nickel and/or cobalt values is sprayed into a flash chamber to flash a portion of the ammonia therefrom, resulting in the production of a fine precipitate of nickel and/or cobalt carbonate. The solution is introduced into a stripping tower wherein remaining ammonia is stripped therefrom to precipitate further nickel and/or cobalt carbonate on the previously precipitated carbonate, which function as nuclei to reduce deposition in the column.
Abstract: The invention concerns a vibration damping mat having on either side projections that, when stacking a number of such mats, so engage each other that the assembly behaves like a single thicker mat having the lateral stability of a single mat and having the same differentiated damping effect for different vibration amplitudes as a single mat, however with a different absorption percentage.
Abstract: Transfer factor is produced by in vitro culture of lymphoblastoid cell lines after induction with transfer factor, which may be mono- or poly- specific. The produced transfer factor is then extracted from the lymphoblastoid cell lines.

Abstract: There is disclosed a liner feeder assembly comprised of a liner supply assembly and a transfer assembly including a liner block having at least one cavity for receiving a preformed liner. The liner transfer assembly is provided with a pump and valve assembly in fluid communication with each such cavity for placing such cavity alternately in fluid communications with the suction side or the compression side of the pump for assisting in the removal of a liner from the liner supply assembly containing a supply of nestable liners and the subsequent positioning in such cavity, and for the placing of the liner on a core rod or pin.
Abstract: A corrugating tool in the form of a segment, having a helically shaped forming edge, whereby the tool is in contact with less than the entire circumference of a tube to be corrugated. The tool is pivotably mounted to the corrugating head to permit adjustment of the corrugating depth.
Abstract: The invention relates to a feedhead device for the moulding of plastics materials, especially foamable plastics, to be formed from a plurality of liquid constituents, the device having a mixing chamber charged with the pressurized constituents and a sprue runner adjoining the mixing chamber and leading to a mould cavity. The sprue runner flares toward the mould cavity. To create a uniform distribution of velocity over the cross-section of the sprue runner despite the widening thereof and to prevent the occurrence of evaporation prior to the plastics constituents inter-reacting, the invention proposes the forming of at least one restriction in the sprue runner.
Abstract: Gas feed system for a packed bed in which there is provided a plenum chamber within the packed bed comprised of a plurality of separate members supported by the packing, with gas being introduced into the plenum chamber and fed downwardly through the packing and then upwardly through a distributor to packing above the plenum chamber. A liquid feed system includes a main liquid distributor, auxiliary liquid distributors and associated conduits, all positioned within and supported by the packed bed.
Abstract: There is disclosed a multiple-effect evaporation system wherein the last effect of the system in the direction of miscella flow is provided with a stripping tower in which vapor effluent from that effect countercurrently contacts feed to that effect. In application to the recovery of solvent from miscella obtained by the extraction of defatted seed material with an aqueous organic carbohydrate-selective solvent, pressure in the evaporation zone of one of the effects is maintained at atmospheric. Additionally, at least one of the effects other than said last effect may be provided with a rectification column.
