  • Patent number: 5950666
Abstract: A leak preventing detent apparatus for a toilet flush valve assembly in which an inlet valve (13) to a toilet flush tank (11) is controlled by an inlet valve control device (14, 14a, 16, 17), and an outlet flush valve (21) is controlled by a flush lever (19). The detent apparatus includes a follower member (28) that is moved in response to movement of the flush lever at the initiation of a flush cycle, and a detent (25) that is operative to prevent opening of an inlet valve (26) except when a flush cycle is deliberately initiated. In a preferred form of the invention, a primary inlet valve (26) is provided upstream of the usual inlet valve (13) that is controlled by an inlet valve control device, such as a float (14, 14a, 16, 17), and the detent apparatus effectively cooperates with the primary inlet valve to maintain it closed unless a flush cycle is deliberately initiated. The detent member may be hydraulically damped (37-42) to provide a timed delay of its movement into inlet valve closing position.

  • Patent number: 5951961
Abstract: In a process and apparatus for treating a gas containing hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide, the gas is contacted with an organic solvent (1)for example, a polyalkylene glycol, containing a catalyst for example, an alkaline salt of a week organic acid, in at least one gas-liquid reactor contactor (2) and a gas (20) substantially no longer containing hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide is recovered. The effluent contains sulphur vapor. It is cooled by mixing with a solvent-water mixture (14) or by cooled solvent in a cooling zone (7) to produce a suspension of sulphur crystals in the solvent. The crystallised sulphur is separated from the solvent in a separation zone (30) and the cooled solvent is recycled (13). An effluent (17) which is free of sulphur gas is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5935481
Abstract: In order to prevent the formation of flash on a gasket used to seal a filter element when the filter element is mounted in a housing to filter a fluid, such as air for an internal combustion engine, a molding method and apparatus utilizes a pair of mold components which abut along a mold line and define a cavity for forming the gasket. As the expandable material expands to fill the cavity and form the gasket, a portion of the material adjacent the mold line is received in an annular groove in one of the mold components so that flash is not formed at the mold line. One of the mold components also has an upwardly sloping ramp surface so that air and gas move along the ramp surface as the material expands and does not become trapped in the cavity, thus avoiding defects and blemishes in the gasket due to trapped air bubbles.

  • Patent number: 5922924
Abstract: To continuously produce and separate high purity p-xylene from a C.sub.8 aromatic hydrocarbon charge, successive use is made in combination of (1) a stage of separating low-purity p-xylene (75 to 98%) by simulated moving bed adsorption chromatography; (2) a stage of purifying and washing the low-purity p-xylene by recrystallization (-25 to +10.degree.
