  • Patent number: 4504742
Abstract: Electrical switching device for controlling current flow from an alternating current source (10) and having a main thyristor (14,16) such as a triac or a silicon controlled rectifier connected in series with a load (12) across the source. The control terminal (14c,16c) of the thyristor (14,16) is coupled via a diac (30) to a control signal generating circuit (18) operable to vary the conduction interval of the thyristor (14,16) on each cycle of voltage from the supply (10) by switching the diac (30). A further thyristor (38,42) such as a triac or silicon controlled rectifier is connected to be responsive to the switching of the diac (30) to be itself switched so as to provide a current flow path from the control terminal (14c,16c) of the main thyristor to render the main thyristor insensitive to immediate further control under influence of the diac.

  • Patent number: 4492714
Abstract: There is provided a protein-free and low sodium high stability fat emulsion which comprises on a solid basis, 10 to 75% of an edible fat having an average particle size of 4 microns or less, 0.1 to 3% of an emulsifier, 8 to 20% (based on the fat) of an edible hydrated, substantially undextrinized, lipophilic starch in submicroscopic particle size, and the remainder of the solids being principally a filler. The emulsion may be either a water emulsion or a dry powdered emulsion. The emulsion is prepared by mixing the fat, emulsifier, starch and filler in water. The mixture is cooked at an elevated temperature if the starch has not been previously cooked to hydrate starch. The mixture is sheared such that the fat is divided into an average particle size of 4 microns or less and the starch is dispersed in submicroscopic form. The sheared mixture is then dried to a moisture content of 7% or less. The starch may be dispersed to the submicroscopic particle size either prior to or during the process.

  • Patent number: 4492716
Abstract: Substrates are disposed in a reaction chamber having a gas inlet and a gas outlet and a mixture gas containing at least a semiconductor material gas and a carrier gas is introduced into the reaction chamber in such a state in which a gas in the reaction chamber is exhausted therefrom. An electromagnetic field is applied to the mixture gas to ionize it into a mixture gas plasma in the reaction chamber, by which a semiconductor material is deposited on each substrate. In this case, the semiconductor material thus deposited on each substrate becomes a non-crystalline semiconductor by holding the atmospheric pressure in the reaction chamber below 1 atm and maintaining the substrate at a temperature lower than a temperature at which the semiconductor material on the substrate becomes crystallized. The reaction chamber is provided with a gas ionizing region on the side of the gas inlet and a semiconductor depositing region on the side of the gas outlet.

  • Patent number: 4490088
Abstract: Tool for vertically lifting and maneuvering objects such as utility access covers. A pair of spaced-apart ring assemblies including inner and outer concentric independently rotatable rings are connected to each other by a first connecting member which extends over the object. The object is engaged to the tool by hooks suspended from the first connecting member. The ring assemblies are also connected by a second connecting member which is spaced from the first connecting member by a distance sufficient to permit a lever to be engaged to both connecting members so that when a force is applied to the lever, both connecting members move causing simultaneous rotation of the inner rings while the outer rings remain stationary, to vertically lift the object into the space between the ring assemblies. The object while suspended between the ring assemblies is then transportable by rotation of the outer rings with respect to the inner rings.
