Abstract: A digital system for monitoring the rotational speed of a rotating body, such as a turbine shaft, in order to indicate an overspeed or underspeed condition, features a readily variable reference speed limit. A reference pulse train is generated. The number of pulses from the reference pulse train is counted for a predetermined period of time proportional to a fixed number of rotations of the rotating body, and the resulting count is compared to a fixed reference count. The reference speed limit is adjusted by variation of the frequency of the reference pulse train.
Abstract: An electrophotographic reversal-developing apparatus according to this invention comprises first means for determining the temperature and humidity of the surroundings in which an electrophotosensitive material is put; and second means responsive to the so determined temperature and humidity of the surroundings for controlling a biase voltage to be applied to a one-component toner, thereby preventing any fog from appearing in a reversal-developed photographic image.

Abstract: A dual induction type intake system for an internal combustion engine has a primary intake passageway for light load operation of the engine and a secondary intake passageway for heavy load operation of the engine. The downstream side open end of each intake passageway opens toward the intake port of the cylinder of the engine. The secondary intake passageway is provided with a controllable valve therein. The load on the engine is detected and the controllable valve is opened when the load on the engine is heavier than a predetermined value so that the intake gas is introduced into the combustion chamber through both the primary and secondary intake passageways, while otherwise the controllable valve is closed so that the intake gas is introduced into the combustion chamber only through the primary intake passageway.
Abstract: A potentiometric flow-through electrode detector for use in high performance liquid chromatography and autoanalyzers. Said detector comprises a metal electrode which has the property that it provides a voltage response to the particular molecule to be detected thereby.
Abstract: A plurality n of semiconductor elements U.sub.l to U.sub.n are sequentially formed on a substrate side by side and connected in series. The element U.sub.i (where i=1, 2, . . . n) has a first electrode E.sub.i formed on the substrate, a non-single-crystal semiconductor laminate member Q.sub.i formed on the electrode E.sub.i and a second electrode F.sub.i formed on the laminate member Q.sub.i. The second electrode F.sub.j+l (j=1,2 . . . (n-1) is coupled with the first electrode E.sub.j via a coupling portion K.sub.j formed by an extension of the second electrode F.sub.j+l. A groove O.sub.j is cut in the laminate member Q.sub.1 to extend into the first electrode E.sub.j between the second electrode F.sub.j+l and the first electrode E.sub.j. The coupling portion K.sub.j extends in the groove O.sub.j to be coupled with the side surface of the first electrode E.sub.j exposed to the groove O.sub.j.

Abstract: Web splicing apparatus for use in a reelstand having static positions for at least two reels comprising means for rotating a fresh reel on the reelstand, means for guiding a portion of the expiring web into a position adjacent to the periphery of the fresh reel, and means for moving the expiring web into contact with the periphery of the fresh reel to cause web splicing when the speeds of the fresh reel and the expiring web have been synchronized.
Abstract: A process for recording and classifying different kinds of image information in an electrophotographic recording system in which a recording medium in the form of a rollfilm is processed through the steps of charging, exposure to an image pattern, developing the exposed film with a toner and fixing the so-developed image on the film. The recording medium is divided into a plurality of sections, each section being utilized to record only a particular kind of image information thereby facilitating retrieval of the recorded information. Image information can be recorded after old information has already been recorded, developed and used.
Abstract: An analgesic composition containing as active ingredient a piperazine derivative represented by the general formula (1) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a cyclopropylmethyl group, an isopropyl group or an allyl group and R.sub.2 represents a phenyl group having as substituent a halogen atom or a trifluoromethyl group.
Abstract: Antigens specific to respiratory syncytial virus are produced on the surface of cells by:(1) culturing in vitro cells derived from a human or animal mucosa,(2) inoculating the cultured cells with respiratory syncytial virus, and(3) selecting virally infected cells from the culture. The resulting cells or the viral antigen(s) when partially or completely isolated from the cells have immunological and diagnostic uses in respect of infection by respiratory syncytial virus and may be used to isolate viral antibodies. A specific cell strain NM7 produced by this method from bovine nasal mucosal cells has respiratory syncytial virus antigens on its surface and its corresponding, uninfected cell strain NM5 can be infected similarly.

Abstract: In converting a staircase waveform signal into a smoothed analog signal, this circuit can perform the high-quality conversion without any sophisticated lowpass filter. An input staircase signal is delayed for one stepping interval to produce a differential signal which represents a stepping height at each step, by taking the difference between the input staircase signal and the one stepping interval delayed version thereof. The differential signal is integrated at every stepping interval. The integrated voltage forms a sawtooth wave signal which is in turn additively combined with the one stepping interval delayed version of the input staircase signal. The resulted combined signal is a smoothed signal of the input staircase signal.
Abstract: A semi-automated plant for threading pipe, including oil and gas well casing and tubing, is disclosed. A particular sequencing of equipment activation and movement is utilized in order to have normal operations of the plant, from loading of unthreaded pipe to the unloading of pipe having threads on each end, and a coupling applied to at least one of the ends, performed without requiring manual handling of the pipe. One particularly important portion of the apparatus in the plant is the lifting device for raising the pipe to the height which is proper for the threading machine, or lathe, and a clamping device for clamping the pipe during the threading operation. By use of the disclosed apparatus, the pipe is accurately raised to the proper height, and pipe over a considerable range of size can be securely clamped during the threading operation.

The row of the cylinders in the second bank starts from a location near the front end of the engine and terminates at a location spaced apart from the rear end of the same. Each bank is provided with a cylinder head assembly which generally comprises a cylinder head and a head cover, and supports a camshaft.
Abstract: A correlation spectrometer directs light from the ambient atmosphere onto a light detector, a first portion of the light being directed through a reference substance and a second portion being directed onto said light detector without passage through the reference substance, whereby the light detector provides first and second electrical signals corresponding, respectively, to said first and second light portions. The reference substance is a surrogate substance different from a substance to be detected by the spectrometer but which has a spectrum which correlates with that of the substance to be detected.
