  • Patent number: 8018234
Abstract: A vacuum pressure measuring device with an electron source has a reaction zone for forming ions by impact ionization, wherein the electron source communicates with the reaction zone via a passage for the electrons. The electron source is surrounded by an insulating housing with a vacuum chamber, and a partition part is designed as a membrane carrier, carrying a nanomembrane at least in one section, the membrane separating the vacuum chamber from the outer region in a gastight manner and being at least partially designed to be electron-permeable. The vacuum chamber has a cathode for the emission of electrons. In the region of and/or on the nanomembrane, an anode arrangement is provided such that electrons are conducted against the nanomembrane and at least partially through it. The nanomembrane abuts the vacuum chamber of the vacuum pressure measuring device.

  • Patent number: 8013313
Abstract: Laser scanner and method images or measures fluorescent samples on specimen slides treated with different fluorescent dyes. Motor-driveable sample table for the slides includes a laser and first optical system creating two laser beams of differing wavelength, a scanner with movable head and an optical deflection element for deflecting the beams toward the sample. Scanner has second optical system for forwarding emission beam bundles to two detectors for detecting emission beam bundles coming from the samples. A drive and counter oscillator connected to the drive by connecting rods drives the head for rapid back-and-forth movement and the counter oscillator has a mass at least equivalent to the head for compensation by opposite movement to the head. The optical deflection element causes spatial separation of two resulting focal points and a spatial separation of the two beam bundles in the direction of the detectors.

  • Patent number: 7998517
Abstract: A process for dry aging meat uses an enclosed, atmosphere controlled room with forced circulation, containing a stainless steel salt rack with a salt brick stack covering one wall. Each brick has a narrow width compared to its length for increased surface area and the salt rack is spaced from the wall for circulation around the bricks. A plurality of unwrapped and uncovered meat piece are loaded onto a meat rack in the room, spaced far from the salt rack and on a timed cycle of days that is a fraction of the total number of days for aging, the meat pieces are moved ever closer to the salt rack until finally, after the expiration of the total selected number of days for the dry aging, they are removed from the aging room for use.

  • Patent number: 7988934
Abstract: Relates to a carrier (1) for positioning objects (5), which are oriented in the Z direction of a coordinate system, in relation to laboratory articles. Z rods (12) comprise a Z guide (43), on a cage (10) carrying the individual drive wheel (17), on which the Z rod (12) is guided in the Z direction. Each drive wheel (17) comprises a section (41), which is tailored to the cross-section of the profiled rod (18) of the Z drive of the carrier (1), individually driven by a motor, on which the drive wheel (17) is seated so it is not rotatable and is displaceable by sliding in the Y direction. The carrier (1) is characterized in that the attack faces (40) of the profiled rods (18) for driving a drive wheel are larger than the attack faces of a profiled rod having a square cross-section but having equally large radius.

  • Patent number: 7982670
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a system for determining the direction of arrival of one or multiple radio or acoustic waves and, more particularly, to such a method and system especially advantageous in situations where the number of available observations is small and/or the available observations are received with low power. The method significantly improves the performance of traditional subspace signal processing algorithms in the low sample size regime. The algorithm is specifically designed to provide consistent estimates even when the observation dimension has the same order of magnitude as the number of observations. This guarantees a good behavior in finite sample size situations, where the number of sensors or antennae and the number of samples have the same order of magnitude or in scenarios where the received signal power is not sufficiently high to guarantee detection via conventional one-dimensional search methods.

  • Patent number: 7976667
Abstract: Method for bonding together up to three layers in a film, which may be made of layers of different materials. The method includes unwinding from pay-off units layers of the film and guiding them into a spreader/applicator units designed to apply an adhesive material to one side of the layers and feeding them to a bonding zone (1), bonding together the layers in the bonding zone, by winding them over a first bonding calender (18), along a contact arc on the surface of said calender. The method is characterized by determining the breadth of said contact arc by rotating a nip onto which the presser roller (19) is mounted, so as to vary the position of the point of contact between a presser roller (19) and the surface of said bonding calender (18). The bonded film is then taken up.
