  • Patent number: 4228335
Abstract: The machine for producing metal reinforcements in particular for reinforced concrete comprises a plurality of longitudinal members and at least one welded connecting member in the form of a strap in the shape of a closed or open frame. The machine comprises a strap carrier having open grooves for the passage of the longitudinal members which under the thrust exerted by a thrust device, come into direct contact with the straps waiting on the strap carrier so as to drive them one-by-one merely under the effect of friction to welding stations. The latter are adjustable in position and are in facing relation to zones of intersection between the longitudinal members and the straps. A selecting device and a stop device distribute the straps individually from the strap carrier to the welding stations. The strap carrier is fed with a series of straps required for a given reinforcement length by a withdrawable feeder and the welded reinforcements are discharged by a movable seizing device.

  • Patent number: 4226512
Abstract: A film projection system comprising a film guiding path, a light source, a projection screen and a rotatable optical system. The optical system comprises a support carrying equidistant identical object lenses whose nodal points traverse a path spaced from the film guiding path a distance substantially equal to the focal distance of the object lenses. The beam or beams emanating from the object lenses are projected and brought into register, respectively, on the projection screen by means of a projection lens. Each object lens may have a given distortion for substantially eliminating any residual unintended motion of the projection of each individual point of the film on the screen.

  • Patent number: 4226740
Abstract: An infra-red responsive fingerprint composition and method for manufacturing by sifting and mixing a minor proportion of finely divided carbon black (50 to 75 millimicrons) and a major proportion of infra-red responsive finely divided pigments containing milori blue (250 to 400 mesh), manganese dioxide (300 to 400 mesh), aluminum powder (1 to 75 microns) and mica (10 to 20 microns). A small amount of gum arabic as binder is included to facilitate adhesion of the print powder to latent prints. On white surfaces the fingerprint powder is black. On dark surfaces the fingerprint powder is brightly reflective so that when lifted or transferred to a white backing the color changes from brightly reflective to black. The reflective color becomes even more vivid under infra-red. Storage is preferably in tightly sealed containers in the presence of dessicant capsules to prevent moisture pick-up and caking of the gum arabic.

  • Patent number: 4225880
Abstract: Programmable power supplies are made responsive to beam-index and timing signals in order to automatically control the size and position of the display on a cathode ray tube. The high voltage power supply is also made programmable, responsive to video signal content, to reduce the energy stored in the high voltage circuits. Savings in energy consumption are also obtained by efficiently modulating the target screen of a beam-index type color cathode ray tube. Energy lost at the target screen is less than 10% compared to approximately 70% for a conventional color tube, an improvement factor of 7:1 or more.

  • Patent number: 4214459
Abstract: A torque transmission clutch which disengages automatically on increase of torque beyond a particular value comprises a pair of like discs mounted to rotate with a drive shaft and a driven shaft respectively, each disc having through-extending apertures accommodating a ring of balls. The balls are all the same size and the number of balls in each ring is the same. The disc thickness is equal to the ball radius and the discs are held axially in a sleeve with a spacing equal to the ball radius. One ring of balls abuts a thrust disc located axially on one shaft and the other ring of balls is pressed by a spring-loaded thrust disc to interengage with the balls of the one ring in the space between the ball-retaining discs. On occurrence of excessive torque, the spring-loaded ring of balls is deflected axially and rides over the balls bearing against the axially-located ring.
