  • Patent number: 6888787
Abstract: An optical disk device has an aperture of an objective lens in an incoming path of a beam from a semiconductor laser to an optical disk formed larger than an aperture in a return path from the optical disk or an aperture is varied in recording and in reproduction. This configuration improves recording/reproducing ability since light is focused on an optical disk with high numerical aperture. In addition, since reflected light from the optical disk is detected with low numerical aperture, margins for tilt and defocus are not reduced. Furthermore, since unnecessary signal components contained in the reflected light can be eliminated, a S/N (signal-to-noise ratio) of an information signal also increases. Thus, a high-performance optical disk device can be obtained. Alternatively, by varying the aperture of an objective lens in recording and in reproduction, an optical disk device in which recording density and recording quality are increased without deteriorating reproduction quality can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 6884647
Abstract: In order to provide a method for easily roughening a surface of a semiconductor constituting an LED, a first material 18 and a second material 20 having a property that they are nonuniformly mixed when thermally treated are deposited on a semiconductor 16, the structure is thermally treated, and etching is performed through reactive ion etching in which the etching rate with respect to the first material 18 is slower than the etching rates with respect to the second material 20 and to the semiconductor 16. During this process, a region 22 in which the first material 18 is the primary constituent functions as an etching mask, and a predetermined roughness can be easily formed on the surface of the semiconductor 16.

  • Patent number: 6884760
Abstract: The invention relates to water based wellbore fluids used during a hydrocarbon recovery process, such as drilling, fracturing, gravel packing and wellbore workover. According to the present invention, said wellbore fluid comprises a fluid loss additive and a bridging material that are hydrophobic in nature, hydrophobically modified or oil wettable. The wellbore fluid generates an active filter cake that once formed, is impermeable to an aqueous phase, thus reducing fluid loss and ensuring reduced damage to the formation, yet simultaneously is permeable to the back flow of hydrocarbons during a hydrocarbon recovery process.

  • Patent number: 6882196
Abstract: A device that uses an input clock signal to generate an output clock signal with a desired frequency is provided. The device uses a voltage controlled delay element that outputs a reset signal to a flip-flop dependent on a bias signal and the input clock signal. When triggered, the flip-flop outputs a transition on the output clock signal, which, in turn, serves as an input to a duty cycle corrector that generates the bias signal dependent on the configuration of the duty cycle corrector. The duty cycle corrector may be configured to generate the bias signal so as to be able to operatively control the duty cycle of the output clock signal.

  • Patent number: 6880120
Abstract: A hardware verification method includes obtaining a set of packets to be driven by a device under test and obtaining a set of timing and relation criteria which determines a sequence in which the packets should be driven by the device under test. The method further includes starting multiple drive loops, each drive loop picking up a packet and forcing the device under test to drive the packet. The method further includes starting multiple expect loops, each expect loop determining when to expect a packet driven by the device under test and picking up the expected packet when it arrives. For each drive loop, the method confirms that the timing and relation criteria are satisfied prior to allowing the drive loop to force the device under test. For each expect loop, the method checks if the expected packet arrives within a specified time period and raises an error flag if the expected packet does not arrive within the specified time period.
