  • Patent number: 8152746
Abstract: A powered massager having coaxially mounted first and second massage actuators that are positioned along the main axis of the powered massager is disclosed. The powered massager further includes a hand-held unit including a control panel for controlling the operation of the massager and a power source that is operatively associated with an electric motor that drives a rotatable output shaft through a gear arrangement. In one embodiment, the first massage actuator is a squirming massage actuator having a plurality of frames interposed between rolling members that are operable when the output shaft is driven by the electric motor, while the second massage actuator is a vibratory massage actuator that is operatively associated with the power source through a conductive pathway established between the power source and the vibratory massage actuator.

  • Patent number: 8146926
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention involve a steerable stroller including a rear frame assembly supporting two rear wheels and a front frame assembly, which may take the form of a boom or other frame work, pivotally coupled with the rear frame assembly and supporting a front wheel. A centering mechanism is provided that elastically couples the front frame assembly with the rear frame assembly so that the boom and front wheel are normally in a straight orientation with respect to the rear wheels, and when a user imparts a turning force the centering mechanism acts to return the boom and front wheel to the straight orientation when the force is reduced or removed. It is also possible to include a pivoting front wheel in conjunction with or separate from the pivoting boom, with pivoting wheel also including a centering mechanism. Finally, aspects of the present invention may include a removable seat assembly.

  • Patent number: 8143996
Abstract: A decentralized RFID system and method provides a decentralized power control scheme for adaptively adjusting the power of a RFID reader in a network of readers communicating with an RFID tag. The transmission power of each reader in a dense network environment is controlled as a function of interference sensed from other readers in the network and a current SNR (SNR) of a backscatter signal received from the tag. If the current SNR is above a required SNR, transmission power of the reader is reduced, which results in lower interference for other RFID readers. Similarly, if the expected SNR is below the required threshold, power is increased sufficiently to ensure that the target or required SNR is achieved.

  • Patent number: 8143856
Abstract: A bi-directional inverter-charger including a bridge rectifier and DC-to-DC conversion components. The inverter-charger may be connected between an alternating current source, e.g., an AC line, and a direct current source, e.g., a battery pack. The DC-to-DC conversion components may include boost and buck circuits that are switchably configured between a charge mode and an inverter mode such that common components are used in both charge and inverter configurations. In the charge configuration, a full wave rectified signal from the H-bridge is up converted by the boost circuit, and the buck circuit controls charge current to the direct current source. In the inverter configuration, the boost circuit up converts the direct current voltage source, and the buck circuit controls the current and its form to the bridge circuit so that the bridge circuit may be connected directly with the AC source.

  • Patent number: 8138330
Abstract: The present invention discloses novel methods for the synthesis of oligonucleotides with nucleoside phosphoramidites on solid supports. The methods comprise the stepwise chain assembly of oligonucleotides on supports with 5?-acyl phosphoramidites. The synthesis cycles consist of a front end deprotection step which is conducted with a solution of a primary amine or a phenolate, a phosphoramidite coupling step with a 5?-acyl nucleoside phosphoramidite in the presence of an activator, a phosphite oxidation step and an optional capping step. The novel methods improve the quality of synthetic oligonucleotides due to the irreversibility of the front end deprotection step, which prevents the formation of deletion sequences, and due to the avoidance of acidic reagents in the synthesis cycles, which prevent the formation of depurination side products.

  • Patent number: 8136329
Abstract: A modular tower structure is described herein. The modular tower uses a cost-effective, efficient design that reduces the amount of steel necessary for tower structures for wind turbines. The modular tower is constructed from sections. The sections are constructed from panels. The panels comprise a curved or arcuate shape. The panels include vertical edges and horizontal edges. A vertical connection connects or secures the panels at the vertical edges of the panels and forms the sections. The sections have a generally circular shape. The vertical connection includes an interior vertical friction plate positioned over a seam or gap between adjacent panels and an exterior vertical friction plate positioned over the seam or gap between adjacent panels. A horizontal connection connects or secures the sections at the horizontal edges of the panels.

  • Patent number: 8136101
Abstract: A value range for a code development option, which results in an error when applied to a given code, can be automatically searched to intelligently identify a threshold for the error within the value range. Instead of completely abandoning the optimizations offered by a code development option with a value range, the code development option as applied to a given code can be limited to a subrange of the value range, thus imbuing the given code with at least the optimizations offered by the code development option with the subrange. A failure analysis tool searches, for example according to binary search, a value range. Subranges are applied to the given code and results examined to influence successive selections of subranges. Eventually, a threshold, if any, is discovered that separates a subrange that does not result in error from a subrange that results in error.

  • Patent number: 8128226
Abstract: A method for the determination by optical optimization of a personalized progressive ophthalmic lens intended to be inserted into a frame chosen by a given wearer for whom a power addition has been prescribed in near vision, the method comprising the stages of: measuring parameters representing the frame chosen by the wearer; choosing an initial distribution of power and resulting astigmatism defect targets for each direction of viewing under wearing conditions in an ordinary frame; calculating transformation coefficients using the measured parameters representing the chosen frame and standard parameters; calculating a personalized distribution of the power and resulting astigmatism defect targets on the lens by applying the calculated transformation coefficients to the initial distribution. The method makes it possible to retain the proportion of the distribution between the far-vision, near-vision and intermediate-vision zones whatever the size and the shape of the frame chosen.

  • Patent number: 8126922
Abstract: A calendar system displays event data via an electronic calendar form that is accessible over a network by a user of a client computer. The system stores event data for multiple events and selectively displays event data based on whether a calendar access request is received from a guest user or an authenticated user. The system displays event data via a default calendar to guest users and displays event data via a customized calendar to authenticated users. The default calendar displays event data for related events based on a contextual relationship that is derived by examining event data for each the multiple events to determine a position separation and/or a frequency of a user supplied keyword in the event data. The customized calendar displays events based on contextual relationships and based on the viewing history of the user and other input data from user.

  • Patent number: 8117282
Abstract: A media player configured with a first removable memory reader, such as a DVD drive, and a second removable memory reader, such as a flash memory reader, adapted to communicate with a removable memory containing filter data. The media player is configured to allow filtered playback of a multimedia presentation, such as a movie. Filtered playback causes certain portions of the multimedia presentation to be skipped, muted, blurred, cropped, or otherwise modified to eliminate or reduce potentially objectionable scenes, language, or other content. The second memory reader provides a convenient medium for the loading of filter information, whether data files, executable program code, or the like, to local memory of the media player to employ during filtered playback. Alternatively, the filters may be accessed from the removable storage media during playback rather than loading to local memory.
