  • Patent number: 7354372
Abstract: An electric actuator for an automatic transmission includes an adapter to transmit rotary motion between the adapter and the automatic transmission. An electric motor has an output shaft operably connected to the adapter by a gear set which includes a ring gear. The gear set reduces speed and increases torque supplied by the output shaft of the electric motor and applied to the adapter. A release mechanism is operably connected to the gear set and includes a lock member movable between a first position wherein the lock member is in engagement with the ring gear to lock the ring gear against rotary motion in both directions and a second position wherein the lock member is out of engagement with the ring gear to permit rotary motion of the ring gear in both directions.

  • Patent number: 7309059
Abstract: A hoist apparatus (10) including a rope sensing device (14) for detecting rope fouling events. The rope sensing device (14) includes a lever arm (74) having a first end portion (74g), a second end portion (74h), and a pivot point (74j) located between the first (74g) and second (74h) end portions along the lever arm (74). The lever arm (74) is pivotably mounted to a frame (18) of the hoist apparatus for movement between a sensing position and a fouled position. A follower (78) is connected to the first end portion (74g) and positioned adjacent and spaced from a drum (30) of the hoist apparatus such that rope (38) winds on to the drum spaced from and relative to the follower (78) when the rope sensing device is in the sensing position. A switch actuator (82) is connected to the second end portion (74h) adjacent a switch (86) such that the switch is actuated to a motor stop position when a rope fouling event occurs.

  • Patent number: 7303534
Abstract: A firmness tester is disclosed which conducts its test through one or more rolling indenters impinging upon the surface of a subject. Most firmness sensors require the sample to be held stationary relative to the tester's reference plane. This invention allows the tester to differentiate between the firmness of the sample and movement of the sample relative to the sensing device. This is desirable in the application of an automatic massage chair where the roller/sensor presses upon the user's back and may cause the point of contact on the user's body to move away by means of the user flexing at the hips or arching through the back. The rolling feature is desirable in the field of automated chair massage where the massage indenters slide across the user's back with significant pressure through a membrane. This membrane would wear quickly if the indenters were not equipped with such a rolling mechanism.
