  • Patent number: 8185305
Abstract: A rewrite apparatus calculates a risk of destruction of data due to data retention in each file. It is determined whether a refresh start condition is satisfied. The refresh start condition is provided in accordance with the calculated risk. When the refresh start condition is satisfied, it is determined that the possibility to completely execute the refresh is high. The refresh is thereby executed. The rewrite apparatus can thus reduce the possibility to interrupt the refresh of the data stored in the storage medium such as a flash memory.

  • Patent number: 8181521
Abstract: A yaw rate sensor has two sets of exciting electrodes, perturbative weights and two sets of detecting electrodes on a surface of a piezoelectric substrate. The exciting electrodes excite first surface acoustic waves transmitted through the surface of the substrate in a propagation direction. The weights are oscillated by the waves and excite a second surface acoustic wave, transmitted through the surface of the substrate in a detection direction orthogonal to the propagation direction, in response to a yaw applied to the weights. The detecting electrodes measure an intensity of the second surface acoustic wave to detect the yaw rate. The sets of exciting electrodes are symmetrically placed with respect to a driving axis extending straight along the propagation direction. The group of weights is symmetric with respect to the driving axis.

  • Patent number: 8179368
Abstract: A manual operation device of the present disclosure allows a user to intuitively recognize a force pattern by providing a graphical representation of the force pattern on a display unit. The force pattern or a relationship between an operation position an operation unit of the manual operation device and a control value is visually represented as, for example, a two-dimensional line graph. In this manner, the reaction force is suitably adjusted to an operation force of the user to reduce an false operation of the manual operation device, because the user can easily controls the reaction force for achieving an improved operability.

  • Patent number: 8180109
Abstract: If a display mode is set to a narrow angle enlargement image mode, an enlargement image area is inputted via a touch panel. A transformation is made to compress an image of a not-enlargement image area other than the enlargement image area, and a narrow angle enlargement image is generated to enable simultaneously displaying, as a narrow angle enlargement image, (i) the enlarged image in the enlargement image area and (ii) the compressed image in the not-enlargement image area. When a warning target is detected, a corresponding image area is enlarged. An audio alarm is outputted via a speaker. Further, a new narrow angle enlargement image is generated so as to merge the initial narrow angle enlargement image with an image of enlarging the image area of the warning target. A display window including the new narrow angle enlargement image is then displayed in a display device.

  • Patent number: 8178006
Abstract: A fiber aggregate contains fine carbon fibers and fine boron nitride fibers. Desirably the boron nitride fibers form an outer layer portion of the fiber aggregate and the fine carbon fibers form a core portion of the fiber aggregate. Desirably the fine carbon fibers and the fine boron nitride fibers are twisted with each other. Desirably the fine carbon fibers are carbon nanotubes and the fine boron nitride fibers are boron nitride nanotubes. Desirably the fiber aggregate further contains boron-containing fine carbon fibers. The fine boron nitride fibers are formed by substituting carbon atoms of fine carbon fibers by boron atoms and nitrogen atoms. The fiber aggregate is fabricated by mixing a fiber aggregate that contains fine carbon fibers with boron and heating the fiber aggregate mixed with the boron in a nitrogen atmosphere to transform some of the fine carbon fibers into fine boron nitride fibers.

  • Patent number: 8180564
Abstract: With respect to a non-road region route, which is in a region other than roads registered in map data, a navigation apparatus in a vehicle specifies three check items: travel times the vehicle traveled; a shortened distance reduced by traveling the non-road region route compared with a route registered in the map data; and presence or absence of a predetermined facility in the vicinity of the non-road region route. The navigation apparatus determines an accuracy degree as to whether the non-road region route is existent based on the specified check items, thereby determining whether the non-road region route is existent. A route guidance process is executed based on the non-road region route, which is determined to be existent.

  • Patent number: 8177720
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting vital functions has a pulse wave sensor attachable to a body and a control unit. The control unit checks if amplitude of pulse wave signals produced from the pulse wave sensor varies. The control unit further checks if a large change in the amplitude during a systolic phase of a pulse wave corresponding to the systolic phase of the heart. If a first large change in the amplitude during a diastolic phase of a pulse wave corresponding to the diastolic phase of the heart, it is highly probable that a motion artifact has occurred. Therefore, a motion artifact flag is set. Next, it is checked if the amplitude in the next diastole is changing by more than 30%. if it is presumed that the occurrence of cough is highly probable, a cough flag is set. if it is neither the motion artifact nor the cough, then a yawn flag is set.

  • Patent number: 8179106
Abstract: A synchronous-rectifier type DC-DC converter includes a high-side main switch element, a low-side rectifying switch element, and a control drive circuit. The rectifying switch element includes a rectifying transistor element and a rectifying diode element connected in antiparallel with the rectifying transistor element. The control drive circuit detects an input voltage to the main switch element and determines the input voltage or a rate of increase in the input voltage. When the determined value exceeds a predetermined reference value, a complementary ON/OFF operation of the main switch element and the rectifying transistor element is released, and a state where both the main switch element and the rectifying transistor element are kept OFF for a time period that is longer than a dead-time during the complementary ON/OFF operation is set.

  • Patent number: 8180502
Abstract: A navigation apparatus defines a detection area for detecting a weather phenomenon as a predetermined range around a travel route that is designated as an area setting object. By referring to weather information acquired from external sources through communication, whether or not a weather warning exists in the detection area is determined. If the determination is affirmative, the weather phenomenon is considered as influential in the detection area, and the detection result is provided for a user. More practically, the travel route, the detection area and an affecting area of the weather warning are displayed on a display unit.
