  • Patent number: 7864103
Abstract: A height-finding 3D avian radar comprises an azimuthally scanning radar system with means of varying the elevation pointing angle of the antenna. The elevation angle can be varied by employing either an antenna with multiple beams, or an elevation scanner, or two radars pointed at different elevations. Heights of birds are determined by analyzing the received echo returns from detected bird targets illuminated with the different elevation pointing angles.

  • Patent number: 7798953
Abstract: In a method for improving cardiac performance, a compressive cardiac implant is passed through an anterior intraventricular vein of a patient's heart to a position proximate an apex or lower end of a left ventricle of the patient's heart. A distal end portion of the compressive cardiac implant is moved from the anterior intraventricular vein into the patient's left ventricle and thereafter passed through a septum of the patient's heart and into a right ventricle thereof. The distal end portion of the compressive cardiac implant is then engaged with the septum, and the compressive cardiac implant is operated to compress the apex or lower end of the patient's left ventricle so as to reduce the effective volume of the left ventricle.

  • Patent number: 7753934
Abstract: A surgical closure method utilizes a surgical device including an elongate tube, a flexible web member disposed in a collapsed configuration inside the tube, and a push rod disposed at least partially inside the tube for pushing the web member from the tube. A distal end portion of the tube is inserted through an opening or wound in a wall of a hollow body organ. The rod is pushed in a distal direction along the tube to eject the web member from the distal end of the tube. The ejected web member is expanded from the collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration. The expanded web member is placed in contact with the wall of the organ over the opening or wound. • Patent number: 7722549
Abstract: A medical instrument usable with an ultrasound-endoscope for performing a needle biopsy on a patient's internal body tissues usable at a surgical site not visible to the unaided eye or viewed endoscopically, comprises an elongate tubular member with a hollow needle element connected at its distal end, a sheath member housing said tubular member and needle element, an actuator subassembly with a shifter member operatively connected to elongate tubular member's proximal end, and a distal camming subassembly, said subassembly enabling a rotating motion of said needle member while handle actuator is moved in the forward direction. Upon inserting an ultrasound-endoscope into a patient and locating a mass, the fine needle with sharply pointed spoon shaped distal end is inserted into the mass aided by endoscopic and ultrasonographic guidance. Once in the mass, a camming action is initiated, causing rotation of the fine needle within the mass, resulting in a scooped out core biopsy.
