  • Patent number: 7556934
Abstract: A sensor and method for measuring the concentration of one or more chemical substances within a solution. The sensor including a body of saturated hydrogel held within a sensor body. A window to allow flow through of the chemical substance to be measured. The hydrogel is held under a predetermined compressive force within the sensor body such that the hydrogel exerts a base pressure. A pressure sensor such as a strain gauge senses the pressure exerted by the hydrogel within the sensor body. The sensed pressure is stored or displayed. The hydrogel is reactive to the one or more chemical substances so that contact causes the hydrogel to either increase the pressure above the base pressure under which the hydrogel is held or to decrease the pressure relative to the base pressure of the hydrogel.

  • Patent number: 7553308
Abstract: A hand held device generates a predetermined number of pulses of light having a predetermined electromagnetic spectrum, a predetermined duration, a predetermined inter-pulse interval, and a predetermined total energy. The pulse sequence is delivered to a skin surface to temporarily remove hair through the absorption of light energy only by endogenous chromophores of the hair. Exogenous chromophores for light absorpotion are not applied to the skin surface at any time. A period of time for reappearance of hair on the selected skin surface after the using of the device to remove hair from the selected skin surface is determined by counting the days to hair reappearance after a test light application. Subsequently, the device is used periodically to apply the pulses of light to the selected skin surface at intervals of shorter length than the determined period of hair regeneration, thereby temporarily maintaining the selected skin surface free of visible hair.

  • Patent number: 7500956
Abstract: In a method for treating cancer, a series of investigatory pressure waves of respective different preselected frequencies are generated in a patient so that the pressure waves are transmitted to a tumor through overlying tissues, while responsive oscillatory motion of the tumor and at least some internal tissues of the patient proximate to the tumor are monitored during this pressure wave generation. From the responsive oscillatory motion of the tumor and the internal tissues, a pressure wave frequency is determined which results in a resonant loading of the tumor and essentially leaves the internal tissues undamaged. Subsequently, treatment pressure waves are generated in the patient and have the determined pressure wave frequency and of an effective amplitude so that the tumor resonates with sufficient energy to mechanically destroy the tumor.
