  • Patent number: 4151399
Abstract: A heat exchange unit for delivery of moulding sand in foundries. The sand is heated or cooled, as desired, by contact in its fluidized state with a heat exchange surface. The delivery temperature may be thermostatically controlled. The unit is capable of intermittent delivery, fluidization ceasing when delivery ceases so that the sand in direct contact with the heat exchange surface insulates the bulk of the sand therefrom. Delivery temperature on recommencement is therefore substantially the same as before cessation. By-pass means may be provided to ensure delivery of sand in the event of malfunction of the unit or during maintenance.

  • Patent number: 4139581
Abstract: A carburetor which comprises a casing, an air inlet at the upper end thereof and an air-fuel mixture discharge at the lower end thereof, with a venturi throat located downwardly of said inlet, a sonic throat below said venturi throat, and a diffuser section interconnecting the sonic throat and the discharge. Portions of the wall of the sonic throat are provided with a plurality of indentations, projections, or surface irregularities for stabilizing the flow therethrough and conducing to the uniformity of the air-fuel mixture. At least one portion of said sonic throat is movable with respect to the fixed portions of said throat for altering the cross-section thereof responsive to fuel requirements for combustion. One form of the invention embodies a plug vertically shiftable by a control shaft, having a fuel chamber with emission ports to the interior of the casing whereby said plug acts as an accelerator pump.

  • Patent number: 4121565
Abstract: A solar heating unit for disposition exteriorly of a building window for heating the air within the space interiorly of the window embodying a casing with a transverse divider for creating a rear passage and a front passage which are in communication in their lower portions. The upper end of the rear passage connects with the forward end of a rearwardly extending lower duct having a cool air inlet at the rearward end thereof. The upper end of the front passage connects with the forward end of an upper duct progressing rearwardly above the lower duct and with there being a warm air outlet at the rearward extremity thereof. A heat exchanger is disposed within the front passage for impingement thereon of solar radiation passing through a transparent panel defining the front of said casing. A thermal responsive closure is provided at the upper end of said front passage for closing same when the temperature within the front passage has descended to a predetermined level.
