Abstract: An apparatus and method for enabling Cisco legacy power to support IEEE 802.3 AF standard power. A network power system capable of delivering data terminal equipment power via a media dependent interface includes power source equipment according to Cisco legacy power and at least one powered device according to IEEE standard power. A power compatibility module is inserted between the power source equipment and the powered device to enable the power source equipment to appear according to IEEE standard power and the powered device to appear according to Cisco legacy power. The module includes switches, a DC/DC converter, an IEEE power source equipment circuit, and an isolator. The module optionally includes a user signaling device for communicating operating conditions of the module to a user. The module may be connected to two ports of the power source equipment to supply adequate power levels to the powered device.

Abstract: A sigma-delta modulator comprising: at least one resonator (100a, 110b), a converter (120) to convert an analogue signal from the resonator into a digital signal with time information, and a feedback loop connecting an output of the converter to an excitation input of the resonator. According to the invention, at least one resonator in the modulator is chosen from among the group comprising mechanical, acoustic, electromechanical, electrostatic, optical and chemical resonators. Application to analogue-digital conversion, signal detection and signal generation.

Abstract: A method an apparatus for rendering DVD subpicture data on a computer system having graphics data without a loss of subpicture resolution includes inserting a key into the subpicture data during or right after decoding and storing the subpicture data in the primary graphics surface. This key indicates whether the data is graphics (GUI) information or subpicture information. The key is then examined by hardware logic in the graphics chip, allowing other hardware logic to blend DVD subpicture data with DVD video data without losing subpicture color resolution. The key may be implemented differently for different color modes of the primary surface, and may be unnecessary in certain modes.

Abstract: Process for manufacturing an assembly made of a composite material and wing and stabilizing element obtained by this process. The junction zone for a part (P) made of a composite material comprising two parts (A1, A2) in which the principal directions intersect at a non-singular angle, is made in a single operation by continuous lay-up. The 0° directions of the lay-up coordinate systems (R1, R2) of the parts (A1, A2) are oriented such that these directions make an angle of close to 180°??°, where ±?° represents the other directions of the lay-up coordinate systems (R1, R2). Thus, the layers of fibers oriented at 0° in one of the coordinate systems correspond approximately to a lay-up direction of ±?° in the other coordinate system.

Abstract: A router may induce a reflected interrupt to indicate to a processor in the router to execute encryption or decryption commands on packets in an input queue. The reflected interrupt may have a lower priority than interrupts generated for the processing of time-critical packets. This prevents starvation of potentially important packets while still providing for the security of a critical section for encryption and decryption commands. The router may also be designed to detect when a predefined event occurs and stop the execution of encryption or decryption commands accordingly. This is especially useful for preventing the starvation of lower priority packets, as the encryption or decryption processing loop may be stopped intermittently to allow the processor to perform other tasks. Scheduling of the encryption or decryption process may also help prevent traffic-related problems.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for calibrating an electronic circuit which required scaled matching of some or all of its electronic components with nonvolatile programmably trimmable parameter sources (current, voltage, resistance, capacitance) is carried out in a top-down (highest order bit first, lowest order bit last) fashion without an analog division step. The method and apparatus are applicable, for example, to current-steering digital-to-analog converters (DACs), voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), voltage-steering DACs, and the like. In each of these applications the method and apparatus is used to match successive device outputs according to a desired scale factor, proceeding top-down from large output devices to smaller output devices, thereby successively shrinking the cross-device errors which accrue during the matching process.

Abstract: A data communications network with a plurality of PoPs maintains a local database associated with each PoP and a central database somewhere on the data communications network. The local database contains a group identification such as a domain identification corresponding to a group of users, a maximum number of VPN sessions to provide the group of users at the PoP and a dynamic VPN session count corresponding to active VPN sessions currently provided to the group of users at the PoP. The central database contains a maximum number of VPN sessions to provide the group of users over the entire data communications network and a dynamic network-wide VPN session count corresponding to active VPN sessions currently provided to the group of users on the entire data communications network. Actions are taken when the group attempts to exceed either the local maximum number of sessions or the network-wide maximum number of sessions by more than a predetermined number.

Abstract: Device for attachment of an aircraft windshield. The device comprises a monoblock flange (14). The flange is fixed to the structure (12) of the aircraft by screws (16), so as to trap a peripheral edge of the windshield glass (10) between the flange and the structure. A dry monoblock seal (18) surrounds the peripheral edge of the windshield, such that the seal alone provides leak tightness between the inside and the outside of the aircraft. Preferably, the screws (16) are in contact with the flange (14) through plane surfaces perpendicular to the center lines of the screws. At least one second dry monoblock seal (20) may also be placed between the flange (14) and the structure (12).

Abstract: Haptic sensations for tactile feedback computer interface devices. In one method, a tactile sensation is output during the interaction of a cursor and a graphical object, the tactile sensation being based on a periodic waveform and having a frequency correlated with a size of the graphical object interacted with the cursor. Another method includes receiving an indication of a position of a cursor, causing the cursor to snap to a graphical object, such as a line, when the cursor is within a predetermined distance so that the cursor can be moved along or within the graphical object, and enabling the output of a vibration sensation while the cursor is moved along or within the object. In another method, a tactile sensation includes a pop sensation that is a short, high magnitude sensation, and then a ringing sensation during or immediately after the output of the pop sensation and which can fade in magnitude over time.

Abstract: A golf club travel bag is provided with a mechanism to restrain the movement of golf clubs contained therein. The bag is comprised of a rugged material which forms a cavity having an opening operated by a zipper. The top of the bag is supplemented with a special protective layer affixed to the interior surface. The protective layer may be a foam material operable for absorbing shock. A strap is arranged in a looping fashion symmetric about the longitudinal axis of the bag. A fastened strap applies a inward radial force onto the protective layer and further to clubs stored in the bag thereby holding the clubs from moving and causing damage to each other.

Abstract: A system and method for presenting one or more general-purpose application-accessible data sources as an XML representation is discussed. Information that describes the way data is structured or organized in the data source is accessed from the data source. A virtual file system representation comprising a plurality of hierarchical folders is provided to represent the structural information. Optionally, the virtual file system representation may be modified, either manually or according to rules sets. After any desired modification, the XML representation is generated based on the virtual file system representation.

Abstract: Method for determining the position or the orientation of an object using a magnetic field and corresponding device. The fields produced by sources (S1, S2, S3) are coded, for example, by pseudo-random binary sequences. In this way it is possible, in a sensor (20) fixed to the object, to distinguish the respective contributions of different sources. The position or the orientation of the object on which the sensor (20) is fixed can be deduced (40) from these contributions. Applications in remote control, positioning, security, medicine, etc.

Abstract: An apparatus for mounting semiconductor chips comprises a loading station for the presentation of substrates, a first transport system and a second transport system. The first transport system removes one substrate after the other from the loading station and passes them on to the second transport system which transports the substrates in steps to a dispensing or soldering station and to a bonding station. A sensor with two coils arranged at a distance to one another is arranged in such a way that one end of the substrate transported by the first transport system travels through a gap formed between the two coils. The signal delivered by the sensor is used to determine a control signal which indicates whether or not the first transport system should pass the substrate on to the second transport system.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an article capable of constraining a propagating wave is disclosed. The method includes contacting a crystalline substrate with a source of deuterium ions to create a region in the crystalline substrate having a crystal structure that includes deuterium ions. The region is capable of constraining a propagating wave to the region.

Abstract: A method and apparatus control switching noise in a digital-to-analog interface in a mixed-signal circuit. The digital-to-analog interface includes a first plurality (K) of switching elements and a second plurality (M) of dummy switching elements, the second plurality (M) being smaller than the first plurality (K). The switching noise control includes (a) receiving a digital data signal, (b) determining a number (N) of the switching elements to be switched for the digital data signal, and (c) switching the second plurality (M) less the number (N) of the dummy switching elements simultaneously with switching the number (N) of the switching elements.

Abstract: A method for handling access requests at multiple PoPs using the sharing of NAS information between the PoPs, enabling each PoP to maintain its own, independent, database of user records. When an access request is received, it is forwarded to a specific PoP designated as the user's “home PoP”. This home PoP is the only PoP to contain the user's records. The home PoP may then handle the access request by utilizing a local NAS list, the local NAS list being synchronized with other NAS lists in the network and providing information on all the “known” NASes throughout the entire network. This allows for a user to roam between PoPs, while reducing the bandwidth and security concerns that have existed in the past when users chose to roam. The NAS lists may then be updated via a central Network Control Console.

Abstract: A group of network devices, such as Ethernet switches, are logically configured as a single cluster, with one commander device and one or more expansion devices. Each device in the cluster contains an embedded HTML server that facilitates configuration and management of the network device via a management station running a Web browser. Each device in the cluster is identified by a unique Universal Resource Locator (“URL”). However, only the cluster commander is required to have an IP address. The cluster commander redirects and translates configuration and management requests from the Web browser on the management station so that requests are processed by the appropriate device in the cluster. The exchange of information between the Web browser on the management station and the devices in a cluster is accomplished via redirection of HTTP GET and POST methods. This provides a consistent, device-independent interface between the device and the Web browser on the management station.

Abstract: A very fast reconstruction is undertaken in an image reconstruction process by tomography, by dividing measurements through the subject into a series of subsequent sets that are inverted by back projections giving partial result blocks used to search for the change law for the subject. Partial contents of the image can then be predicted at a reference time and their accumulation gives the image. The law for how the subject changes with time is evaluated and is used to compensate for partial results before their accumulation.
